Hot dog spill in Pennsylvania shuts down highway
Crews were stuck with a job they did not relish — rolling up the scattered tube steaks for disposal. CBS affiliate WHP reported that the truck was carrying a thousand pounds of frozen hot dogs when it crashed around 9:15 a.m. on Friday.
"Once those leave the truck and hit the road, that's all garbage, and it's still pretty warm," Shrewsbury Fire Company Chief Brad Dauberman said.
State police said the tractor-trailer had an unspecified mechanical problem on Interstate 83 a few miles north of the Maryland line, as morning rush hour was wrapping up, causing it to push into a passenger vehicle. When the truck scraped along a concrete divider, its trailer was ripped open and the contents scattered.
Four people required medical attention, Dauberman said, for injuries that police said were not life-threatening.
A front-end loader was used to scoop up the hot dogs and drop them into a dump truck.
Dauberman said emergency crews couldn't help but see the humor in the situation, and his daughter texted him a photo of a hot dog-themed T-shirt.
"I can tell you personally, hot dogs are very slippery," the fire chief said. "I did not know that."

The Shrewsbury Volunteer Fire Company shared on Facebook that they responded to a multi-vehicle accident involving a tractor-trailer, which left four people injured and tons of debris on the road. The fire crew said the incident occurred on Interstate 83, a few miles north of the Maryland line, at around 9:30 a.m. local time on Friday, Aug. 1. They stated that four people were transported to nearby hospitals after the incident, though they did not disclose their conditions. The fire crews also said that the interstate had to be 'shut down' as crews cleared the debris and vehicles. Several fire crews responded to the incident to help reroute traffic. A photo shared by Shrewsbury Volunteer Fire Company showed several crew members wearing safety vests and holding what appeared to be rakes as they headed to clean up dozens of broken boxes and hot dogs laid out on the highway. On the opposite side of the interstate, the large tractor-trailer could be seen with its left side bent outward. In the photo, the concrete divider between the roads could be seen looking damaged. The tractor-trailer that was involved in the crash reportedly was carrying thousands of hot dogs that spilled onto the roadway, per NBC News. 'I can tell you personally, hot dogs are very slippery — I did not know that,' Shrewsbury Fire Company Chief Brad Dauberman told the outlet. He added of the cleanup: 'Once those leave the truck and hit the road, that's all garbage, and it's still pretty warm.' State police told NBC News that the tractor-trailer had an unspecified mechanical problem, which led it to push into another car and scrape the interstate concrete divider. When it did this, the truck opened up and boxes of hot dogs fell out and scattered onto the highway. Dauberman said a front-end loader had to be used to scoop up the piles of hot dogs on the road and drop them into a dump truck in order to clear the highway. The highway was eventually reopened several hours later. Read the original article on People

Hot dog spill closes Pennsylvania interstate
Aug. 2 (UPI) -- Thousands of frozen hot dogs spilled across Interstate-83 in Pennsylvania, closing the busy highway in both directions after a multi-vehicle collision. State police and four separate fire departments responded to the crash this week at an exit in Shrewsbury, Pa., the Shrewsbury Volunteer Fire Company confirmed on Facebook. The collision occurred around 9:10 a.m. EDT and the highway was later re-opened around 3:45 p.m. Shrewsbury is a borough in York County, located in south-central Pennsylvania. Four people were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, while several sections of the highway were damaged as a result of the collision that involved a tractor-trailer truck and two other vehicles. The Pennsylvania State Police confirmed they are now investigating what led up to the crash. The closure stretched for four miles along the interstate, between exits 4 and 8. "We all came to a dead stop and I was wondering what was going on. Then I saw some emergency hot dogs all over the road," witness Jake Sitcosky told WPMT-TV. Cleanup efforts were hampered by the amount of grease left on the pavement. Local media showed photos of destroyed cardboard boxes and hotdogs littering the road. Solve the daily Crossword
