‘I have never won anything in my life' – SPAR car competition winner
SINGING and laughter filled the atmosphere at the Hillcrest KWIK SPAR as they handed over a Hyundai Grand i10 to a lucky shopper earlier today (Friday, June 20)
The winner, Frederick Haupt, said, 'It feels fantastic, I did not expect it. I have never won anything in my life.'
Haupt said he often drives from Bluff to visit his son and his family.
'Whenever we go to their house, we stop at this SPAR to get snacks, I just swipe my card or give my number to get rewards, I never expected to win a car.'

The store owner Mike Egling said he and his wife Leigh-Anne, with whom he co-owns the store, feel privileged to be able to give away a prize of this magnitude to someone in the community.
'As everybody knows, SPAR owners generally live and breathe the communities that they serve because we generally live in the communities and we have the community's best interests at heart.
'So to be able to give away a prize of this magnitude is life-changing for many and it's great that our store, the Hillcrest KWIK SPAR, had someone that won.'
Egling said all that the shoppers need to do is to buy the products that are associated with the competition, swipe their card and automatically go into the draw.
The competition closes this Sunday, June 22.
He conveyed his gratitude to all their suppliers and sponsors, especially the SPAR corporate office for arranging this handover.
'At SPAR, we don't have suppliers, we have supply partners that have the best interest of our businesses and really help us to succeed. So we are privileged to to be associated with both the brand and a competition like this.'

Truck crashes on N3 near Ultra City
A truck crashed on the N3 near Ultra City at Estcourt today (August 5), resulting in temporary closure of the Durban-bound right lane while emergency services attended to the scene. Ambulance services, the Fire Department, N3TC, police and towing services all responded promptly. Firefighters had to use the jaws-of-life to rescue the driver, who was trapped inside the vehicle. According to authorities at the scene, the truck was travelling on the Johannesburg-bound lane when it veered off course, crossed the Durban-bound lanes, and overturned off the road. Fuel price changes for August: Good and bad news for motorists Following a cut in the repo rate to 7% earlier this week, more relief is on the cards for consumers as the petrol price is set to decrease at midnight tonight. The Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources has confirmed that the petrol price will decrease by 28 cents per litre. Zululand Observer reports there is, however, bad news for diesel and illuminating paraffin users, who are set to pay 65 cents and 32 cents per litre more, respectively. 'The average Brent Crude oil price decreased slightly from 69.36 US Dollars (USD) to 69.06 USD during the period under review. 'The main contributing factor to the lower crude oil price is the decision by Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries to increase production and the uncertainty caused by looming United States (US) trade tariffs, including secondary tariffs, which could affect global economic growth and demand for crude oil,' said Minister Gwede Mantashe. 'The average international petrol prices decreased in line with the decrease in crude oil prices. 'The prices of diesel and paraffin increased due to low stocks in the US, unplanned refinery shutdowns, and closures of refineries in the European Union, which have resulted in tight supply,' said Mantashe.
