Check out Hornets' bonkers Summer League championship rings
The Charlotte Hornets have not been to the NBA Playoffs in nearly a decade, but at least on Sunday night, they won an NBA Summer League title. It's not much of an achievement for the franchise, but it's something clearly enough to warrant players to get championship rings.'
Here's a look for one of those shiny rings given to the players after Charlotte defeated the Sacramento Kings in the title game at Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas to the tune of an 83-78 score.
Charlotte leaned on a balanced attack to take care of business against the Kings, with 2025 NBA draft No. 4 pick Kon Knueppel lighting it up with 21 points on an 8-for-21 shooting from the floor on his way to winning the NBA Summer League championship game Most Valuable Player award. Knueppel's fellow rookie and Hornets' second-rounder Ryan Kalkbrenner had a near-double-double of 15 points and nine rebounds with a steal and a block while KJ Simpson gathered 11 points, seven rebounds and five assists.
As a team, the Hornets shot just 39.7 percent from the field and also committed 15 turnovers. However, Sacramento failed to capitalize more on those errors by Charlotte and didn't shoot efficiently either, going 36.5 percent from the floor. The Kings were led by Isaac Jones, who had 24 points and 11 rebounds.
Although winning the NBA Summer League isn't such a prestigious accomplishment and the competition itself is more about player evaluation than actually topping the field, the Hornets can still feel good about what they just achieved in Sin City. For a franchise that doesn't have much to write home about over the last several years, a Summer League title isn't too shabby of a feat.
Seeing Knueppel and Kalkbrenner flourish in the Summer League also adds to the hope that the Hornets will be able to turn things around in the near future, perhaps as soon as the 2025-26 campaign.
The duo of LaMelo Ball and Brandon Miller is brimming with potential and adding Knueppel and Kalkbrenner to the mix could further brighten the future of the Hornets franchise, which last made the NBA Playoffs in 2016. The Hornets have also just averaged 22.3 wins over the last three seasons.

He is 18." Flagg debuted with the Mavericks last month in the NBA Summer League, averaging 20.5 points, five rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.5 steals on 35.7% shooting from the field. He produced 31 points in his second and final appearance on July 12. Mavericks coach Jason Kidd believes Flagg landed in a good situation, with their mixture of established veterans and up-and-coming players like Lively. He believes Flagg can help them win now and will be pushing him on the court every day to maximize his development. Lively has known Flagg for 2-3 years now, given their connection to Duke. He wants to see Flagg enjoy the transition to the next level and is excited to get to work with him. "He has just been the same, smiling, cracking-joke kid as I've always known," Lively said. "I'm glad that he has been able to still be a person and not having too much of the spotlight rain on him. No matter if he is in the gym or coming by the house, he always just has a smile on his face and is being Coop."

VJ Edgecombe reveals why he chose to wear a rare jersey number with the Sixers
After wearing No. 7 at Baylor University, Philadelphia 76ers rookie VJ Edgecombe will begin his career by donning a number never previously worn by a player in franchise history. Edgecombe was forced to choose a new number because No. 7 is currently occupied by 19-year veteran Kyle Lowry, who re-signed with the Sixers on July 7. With his favorite number off the board, Edgecombe opted to go with 77. The third overall pick will be the first Sixers player to wear No. 77, according to Basketball-Reference. Only 23 players in history have gone with that number, including Los Angeles Lakers guard Luka Dončić and Toronto Raptors guard Jamison Battle. Edgecombe was the Big 12 Freshman of the Year, averaging 15 points, 5.6 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 2.1 steals on 34% shooting from 3-point range at Baylor. He finished in double figures 27 times, including a season-high 30 points on Jan. 22 in a win over Kansas State. The Bahamian guard debuted with the Sixers in the NBA Summer League, averaging 21.5 points, eight rebounds, four assists, two steals and 1.5 blocks on 42.5% shooting from the field. He was limited to two appearances due to a left thumb sprain. Edgecombe told teammate Paul George on "Podcast P" that he'd stick with No. 77 should he win Rookie of the Year or if the Sixers win the title next season. Currently boasting the third-best odds to win the annual award, Edgecombe may be wearing that number for a long time.
