AFRICAN HOTEL DEVELOPMENT GROUP AND ALEPH HOSPITALITY IN LARGEST HOTEL MANAGEMENT PORTFOLIO DEAL IN THE REGION
CAPE TOWN, South Africa, June 18, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- African Hotel Development, the leading African lifestyle hotel group, real estate developer, and owner of the ONOMO brand, has entrusted Aleph Hospitality with the management of 26 ONOMO-branded hotels across 14 African countries.
This strategic move is fully in line with African Hotel Development's business realignment strategy. By appointing Dubai-based Aleph Hospitality as manager of its hotel portfolio, African Hotel Development reaffirms its ambition to sharpen its focus on brand development and asset management, while accelerating the expansion of ONOMO's footprint, with the objective of doubling the brand's scale within five years.
This transaction represents a new chapter in Aleph Hospitality's growth trajectory, doubling its portfolio and enabling the group to reach its goal of operating 50 hotels by the end of 2025, cementing its position as the leading independent hotel management company across the Middle East and Africa.
"The direction we are taking with Aleph Hospitality reflects our strategic decision to separate operations from ownership and brand development," said Julien Renaud, CEO of African Hotel Development. "By delegating hotel operations to a trusted partner, we retain full strategic control over the future of the ONOMO brand while creating the conditions for faster growth and premiumization, especially for our upscale offerings, ONOMO Allure and ONOMO Collection."
Through this transaction, Aleph Hospitality will reinforce its presence in 10+ African countries, with the opening of four new regional offices and the rollout of cluster operations in several key markets, including Kenya and Morocco where Aleph is already active.
"This partnership allows us to scale our operations and further enhance efficiency across markets," said Bani Haddad, Founder and Managing Director of Aleph Hospitality. "We are proud to be selected as the operator of ONOMO Hotels and are committed to delivering exceptional value for all stakeholders — guests, owners, teams, and partners alike."
"Africa represents one of the most dynamic and promising hospitality markets in the world today and has been at the core of our growth strategy. We're proud to further deepen our presence and bring our unique management approach to more communities across Africa," added Haddad.

Ghana adds two non-African countries to visa-free list in push for global ties
In a major diplomatic move, Ghana's Parliament has approved visa-free agreements with four countries - Mozambique, São Tomé and Príncipe, Colombia, and the Commonwealth of Dominica marking an expansion of the country's visa-free travel regime. Notably, the inclusion of non-African countries - Colombia and the Commonwealth of Dominica signals Ghana's deepening push to build global partnerships beyond the African continent. Ghana's Parliament approved visa waiver agreements with Mozambique, São Tomé and Príncipe, Colombia, and the Commonwealth of Dominica. The visa waivers apply to holders of diplomatic, service, and ordinary passports and aim to foster developmental partnerships. The policy aligns with Ghana's continuing commitment to regional and global integration and mobility enhancements. The visa-free agreements, as presented on the floor of Parliament by the Chairman of the Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration Committee, Alfred Okoe Vanderpuije, apply to holders of diplomatic, service, and ordinary passports. According to Vanderpuije's presentation, the waiver is expected to boost partnerships in key sectors such as education, energy, trade, tourism, and agriculture. The announcement signals Ghana's ongoing efforts to strengthen multilateral ties through enhanced mobility and cooperation. Also speaking before Parliament, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, stated that the visa waivers will not lead to immediate or direct revenue losses. While acknowledging that visa fees will be waived, Ablakwa noted that the broader economic benefits, particularly in trade and tourism, are expected to significantly outweigh any potential fiscal impact. He described the initiative as part of a long-term strategy to deepen bilateral cooperation and unlock shared socio-economic advantages. Ghana's move to enable visa free travel Just before leaving office, Ghana's former President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, approved visa-free entry for all African nationals making Ghana the fifth African country to remove visa requirements for holders of African passports. The decision marked a significant step toward regional integration, aligning with the African Union's goal of free movement across the continent. Since assuming office in January 2025, President John Dramani Mahama's administration has not only embraced this legacy but moved to deepen Ghana's commitment to open-border diplomacy. In a bold expansion of the visa-free policy, the Mahama-led government recently extended visa-free access to non-African countries which includes São Tomé and Príncipe, Colombia, and the Commonwealth of Dominica. This strategic outreach reflects Ghana's ambition to position itself as a gateway to Africa, while also strengthening South-South cooperation and economic diplomacy beyond the continent. The inclusion of these countries—two from Latin America and two from Africa signals Accra's broader vision to foster global partnerships, boost tourism and trade, and enhance Ghana's soft power on the world stage. Officials close to the policy suggest that more countries may be added in the coming months, especially those with strong bilateral ties or mutual trade interests with Ghana. The move is also expected to encourage reciprocal agreements, allowing Ghanaian travelers greater ease of movement globally. Together, these efforts position Ghana as a leader in Africa's mobility agenda—championing integration not only within the continent but also building new bridges with emerging partners across the Global South.

It is scheduled to announce its fiscal Q1 earnings for 2026 on Wednesday, Aug. 27. Before this event, analysts project this food and beverage company to report a profit of $1.86 per share, down 23.8% from $2.44 per share in the year-ago quarter. The company has surpassed Wall Street's bottom-line estimates in each of the last four quarters. Its earnings of $2.31 per share in the previous quarter outpaced the consensus estimates by 2.7%. Nonetheless, its EPS is expected to grow by 8.8% year-over-year to $9.94 in fiscal 2027. Shares of SJM have declined 7% over the past 52 weeks, lagging behind both the S&P 500 Index's ($SPX) 17.3% uptick and the Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR Fund's (XLP) 4.6% gain over the same time frame. On Jun. 10, shares of SJM crashed 15.6% after its Q4 earnings release. The company's revenue declined 2.8% year-over-year to $2.1 billion, missing consensus estimates. This top-line shortfall might have lowered investor confidence. Moreover, its gross profit also decreased from the prior-year quarter, driven by higher costs, unfavorable volume/mix, and the noncomparable impact of divestitures. However, on the other hand, while its adjusted EPS of $2.31 fell 13.2% from the year-ago quarter, it exceeded the analyst estimates by 2.7%. Wall Street analysts are moderately optimistic about SJM's stock, with an overall "Moderate Buy" rating. Among 17 analysts covering the stock, six recommend "Strong Buy," two indicate "Moderate Buy," and nine advise 'Hold.' The mean price target for SJM is $112.12, implying a 3.2% premium from the current levels.
