Fans of the horror genre are descending upon cinemas for the highly anticipated premiere of 28 Years Later, the long-awaited sequel to the influential zombie film 28 Days Later. Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Danny Boyle and written by accomplished screenwriter Alex Garland, the movie picks up nearly three decades after the events of the original 2002 film.
The first instalment introduced audiences to a then-relatively unknown Cillian Murphy and the terrifying 'rage' virus, which redefined the zombie genre with its fast-paced, adrenaline-fuelled portrayal of the undead.
The original film received widespread critical acclaim for its groundbreaking depiction of zombies, departing from the traditional slow-moving creatures often seen in horror movies. Now, the franchise is back with a vengeance.
The latest instalment's synopsis teases: "It's been almost three decades since the rage virus escaped a biological weapons laboratory, and now, still in a ruthlessly enforced quarantine, some have found ways to exist amidst the infected.
"One such group of survivors lives on a small island connected to the mainland by a single, heavily-defended causeway.
"When one of the group leaves the island on a mission into the dark heart of the mainland, he discovers secrets, wonders, and horrors that have mutated not only the infected but other survivors as well", reports Surrey Live.

Interestingly, before collaborating on 28 Years Later, Alex worked with director Danny on another film that has largely flown under the radar. Starring Cillian Murphy, many hail the 2007 movie 'Sunshine' as "the best sci-fi film of all time".
Set in the year 2057, it tells the tale of a team sent to the stars tasked with rekindling our dimming sun, thus saving humanity from the brink.
Their odyssey takes an intricate turn upon discovering an erstwhile spacecraft that had embarked on an identical quest. Including notables like Cillian, Rose Byrne, Michelle Yeoh, Chris Evans, and Benedict Wong, 'Sunshine' is up for viewing on Disney+.
A fan exclaimed: "Sunshine is the most underrated movie of all time. No exaggeration. For me personally it is my favourite movie. I discovered this movie in 2020 and since I have seen it about 16 times."
Another fan said: "Watched this for the first time and I already know I will watch it again, and make others watch it as well. Sunshine is a genuinely enjoyable, engaging, and interesting sci-fi movie."

Elsewhere, another shared: "Tonight was my third or fourth time watching this film. Of course, it has all the standard elements of being lost in space, and finding the ship sent before you - which has been lost for years - but there's just something different about this one.
"They detail the lengths to which people go in order to survive, and subsequently, how they sacrifice themselves when the mission (restarting the sun) hangs in the balance."
Sunshine is now streaming on Disney+

Emily Atack cancels fly-on-the-wall reality show despite high hopes for series

Emily Atack has decided to scrap plans for a Disney+ reality show that would have documented her motherhood journey. The Inbetweeners star, 35, welcomed her first child, Barney James Garner, with her long-term partner Alistair Garner in June 2024. Although she was initially planning to work on a fly-on-the-wall series chronicling her experiences as a parent, Emily ultimately chose to shelve the project. An insider has claimed: "It's not entirely clear why she didn't pursue the show, particularly as it would have proved very lucrative to be working with the streaming giant. "It would have almost certainly proved very popular with viewers too. But it's fair to say she would have struggled time-wise to fit it in alongside all her other projects and, of course, her most important job of being a mother," they told The Sun. It's certainly true that Emily has not slowed down professionally. The actress is returning for the second series of Disney+ hit drama Rivals and is also teaming up with Danny Dyer to co-host a new game show for ITV. On top of these projects, Emily has been cast in a new Channel 5 thriller called The Rumour, which is being adapted into a TV series from the Sunday Times bestseller by Lesley Kara. She will be starring on the show alongside Joanne Whalley and Rachel Shenton. Lead actress Rachel has spoken about her excitement for the series, saying: "The Rumour is a story of a woman unravelling as she relentlessly pursues the truth. She's very relatable and the cast are amazing. It's lovely to work with so many women." Beyond her busy work schedule, the new mum has been soaking up precious time with her baby boy. Emily recently celebrated Barney's first birthday and made an emotional post about the occasion on Instagram, sharing a series of snapshots from his first year. She posted a picture of Barney sleeping on her chest shortly after he was born, sharing: "Happy 1st birthday to our son Barney James Garner. The Baby Barn Owl. I've dreamt of you my whole life. It was always you. I love you beyond words, our beautiful, BEAUTIFUL boy. You are so cherished my heart could burst." Emily also shared photos from her pregnancy, snaps of her and Alistair opening baby gifts, and sweet pictures of the family cuddling Barney. Last month Emily enjoyed a beach holiday with her family in Mevagissey, Cornwall, where she was seen carrying Barney in a sling while admiring the coastal views. The star previously told The Times that she felt lonely before settling down with Alistair, adding: "I feel like my whole life had been building up to that moment, not just getting a part in that show, but also my personal life. It feels like the stars have aligned. That is genuinely how it feels."
