The Indian team management, led by new head coach Gautam Gambhir, is facing criticism after dropping young batter Sai Sudharsan for the second Test against England at Edgbaston. Sudharsan, who made his debut in the first Test of the series, was left out after just one game, a move that hasn't gone down well with many fans.
Captain Shubman Gill announced three changes at the toss. Jasprit Bumrah was rested, while Shardul Thakur and Sudharsan were dropped. In their place, Akash Deep, Washington Sundar, and Nitish Kumar Reddy were brought in. While Bumrah's omission was explained as part of workload management, the decision to leave out Sudharsan came as a surprise.

Wimbledon 2025: Novak Djokovic breaks record; Iga Swiatek, Mirra Andreeva progress
Novak Djokovic in action at Wimbledon 2025 (Image via AP/Alastair Grant) Novak Djokovic once again drew all the cameras as he stormed into the third round of Wimbledon for a record 19th time with a commanding 6-3, 6-2, 6-0 win over Dan Evans. The victory marked his 99th match win at Wimbledon, which is another Open Era milestone for the Serbian, taking him past Roger Federer for most third-round appearances by a man at SW19. Djokovic, still recovering from knee surgery just weeks ago, admitted he doesn't stop to reflect often. 'I would like to,' he said, 'but I think that's going to come probably when I set the racket aside and then sip margarita on the beach with Federer and Nadal.' 'That's probably almost as much as Sinner and Alcaraz have years in their lives,' joked the 38-year-old Djokovic in a nod to the rising generation. While Djokovic continues to add chapters to his legacy, his rivals Jannik Sinner (23) and Carlos Alcaraz (22) are now front and centre of tennis's next great rivalry. It wasn't all smooth sailing against Evans, as Djokovic missed his first nine break points before unlocking the match with a 5-3 lead. From there, he was nearly flawless, winning five of his next six break points and not facing a single one until the final game. 'You have these kinds of days where everything goes your way,' he said. 'Everything flows,' said the veteran, as quoted by AP. Elsewhere, Mirra Andreeva and 2022 champion Elena Rybakina booked their places in the third round in straight sets. No. 10 Emma Navarro also advanced, while in the men's draw, Alex de Minaur and Grigor Dimitrov moved on. Poll Which player are you most excited to watch in the next matches? Carlos Alcaraz Aryna Sabalenka Jannik Sinner Sinner was due to play later Thursday on Centre Court, while Iga Swiatek pulled off a thrilling win over American Caty McNally 5-7, 6-2, 6-1. With the result, the Pole became only the third player to reach 22 third round appearances, joining the ranks of Serena Williams and Amelie Mauresmo. Looking ahead, Friday will see Alcaraz take on Jan-Lennard Struff, and Aryna Sabalenka face off with Emma Raducanu in a marquee centre Court clash. D Gukesh defeats Magnus Carlsen in Croatia Rapid; registers fifth consecutive win
D Gukesh defeated World No. 1 Magnus Carlsen in the sixth round of the Grand Chess Tournament in Zagreb, Croatia on Thursday (July 3). With this win Gukesh, the 19-year-old Indian grandmaster claimed the sole lead with 10 points. D Gukesh entered the sixth round as the joint leader after an impressive performance on the opening day. His momentum continued in the fourth and fifth rounds, where he secured victories against Uzbekistan's Nodirbek Abdusattorov and American Fabiano Caruana, two of the world's top players. D Gukesh's win was especially significant given Carlsen's pre-match comments. Before the match, Magnus Carlsen, known for his psychological approach to chess, made headlines with his remarks about Gukesh. The Norwegian grandmaster, a five-time world champion, suggested that Gukesh had yet to prove himself in the rapid format. 'I think Gukesh played quite well here last time, but it remains to be proven that he's one of the best players in this format,' Carlsen said. He added, 'Gukesh hasn't done anything to [show] that he's going to do well in such a tournament. I hope, for his sake, that he can do better. But playing him in this tournament, I will approach it as if I'm playing one of the presumably weaker players.' The sixth-round clash was the first of three scheduled encounters between Gukesh and Carlsen in Zagreb. While Thursday's match was played in the rapid format, the upcoming meetings will tak place in the blitz format. In the format, players have even less time to make their moves. Blitz chess demands fast decision-making skills. These matches will be critical in determining whether Gukesh can maintain his lead and further cement his dominance in the tournament. D Gukesh's victory over Carlsen is a milestone for Indian chess. At just 19, Gukesh has already claimed the world championship title and is now challenging the game's biggest names on the global stage. His performance in Zagreb highlights the rise of Indian chess, with players like Viswanathan Anand and Praggnanandhaa Rameshbabu paving the way for this new generation. As the tournament progresses, all eyes will be on Gukesh to see if he can maintain his lead and beat the top players.
