Tesla shares take a hit as feud between Trump and Musk reaches a boil

Shares of electric vehicle maker Tesla, which is headed by Elon Musk, slumped Tuesday as the war of words between billionaire and President Donald Trump over the big bill of tax breaks and spending cuts heats up again, with Musk saying he may form a new political party.
Shares of Tesla have already tumbled more than 20% this year as sales of the company's vehicles erode amid a backlash against Musk and his association with the Trump administration. Tesla sales are plummeting in Europe and China as well.
Tesla's stock fell nearly 6% in early trading.
The resumption of hostilities between Trump and Musk, also the CEO of SpaceX, is always bad news for investors in Musk's companies.
'This BFF situation has now turned into a soap opera that remains an overhang on Tesla's stock with investors fearing that the Trump Administration will be more hawkish and show scrutiny around Musk related US government spending related to Tesla/SpaceX and most importantly the autonomous future with the regulatory environment key to the future of Robotaxis and Cybercabs,' wrote Wedbush Securities analyst Dan Ives on Tuesday. 'We would expect the stock to be weak to kick off trading this morning as the Street will show concern that the Trump and Musk once BFF relationship now backfires and turns into a junior high school friendship gone bad into an enemy.'
The most prominent divide in the relationship between Musk and Trump is the president's big bill. Musk ramped up his criticism of the bill over the weekend, arguing the legislation that Republican senators are scrambling to pass would kill jobs and bog down burgeoning industries.
Musk posted on X on Saturday that the bill would be 'political suicide for the Republican Party.'
With the Senate working its way through a tense overnight session that dragged into Tuesday, Musk suggested he will work to get members of Congress who vote for the bill out of their seats next year.
'Every member of Congress who campaigned on reducing government spending and then immediately voted for the biggest debt increase in history should hang their head in shame,' he wrote on X. 'And they will lose their primary next year if it is the last thing I do on this Earth.'
The post was viewed 26 million times on the social media platform.
A few hours later, Musk followed up with a post claiming he will create a new political party if the bill passes.
'If this insane spending bill passes, the America Party will be formed the next day,' he wrote. "Our country needs an alternative to the Democrat-Republican uniparty so that the people actually have a VOICE."
Musk's post about the America Party was viewed 32 million times on X.
Trump focused some of his criticisms of Musk on EV mandates and subsidies. In a post on Truth Social early Tuesday, Trump said Musk has known that he's against an EV mandate and that people should not be forced to own electric vehicles.
'Elon may get more subsidy than any human being in history, by far, and without subsidies, Elon would probably have to close up shop and head back home to South Africa,' Trump wrote.
Trump also suggested that the U.S. could cut back on spending by targeting segments of the economy in which Musk plays a significant roll.
'No more Rocket launches, Satellites, or Electric Car Production, and our Country would save a FORTUNE. Perhaps we should have DOGE take a good, hard, look at this? BIG MONEY TO BE SAVED!!!' Trump posted, alluding to the cost-cutting entity that until recently, was headed by Musk.
Several hours later, while standing on the White House lawn before heading to Florida, Trump continued to take shots at Musk and what he believes to be his biggest grievance, the billionaire's displeasure over potentially losing EV subsidies.
'He's very upset. You know, he can lose a lot more than that, I'll tell you right now," Trump said. "Elon can lose a lot more than that.'
When asked by a reporter if he was going to deport Musk, Trump warned that the Department of Government Efficiency, or DOGE, could come back to hurt the billionaire.
'We'll have to take a look," Trump said. "We might have to put DOGE on Elon. You know what DOGE is? DOGE is the monster that might have to go back and eat Elon. Wouldn't that be terrible? He gets a lot of subsidies."
Musk responded on X by saying he would refrain from escalating the conflict, but he took another shot at Trump and Republicans anyway.
'What good is Doge saving $160B when this bill increases the debt ceiling by $5T? It makes mockery of the work,' he wrote.

Embraer Wins $4B Scandinavian Airlines Order to Supply 55 E195-E2 Jets

Embraer S.A. ERJ recently secured a delivery order from Scandinavian Airlines ('SAS') to supply 45 of its E195-E2 aircraft, with the option to deliver 10 more such aircraft. The first jet deliveries are anticipated to begin in late 2027, with subsequent deliveries lasting around four years. The order's worth, excluding purchase rights, is around $4 billion. The aforementioned orders should boost Embraer's future revenue stream and bolster its profitability. Why E195-E2 Jets? Embraer's E195-E2, the largest aircraft in the E-Jet E2 family, achieves double-digit lower fuel consumption compared to the current-generation E-Jets. This must have encouraged SAS to add it to its existing fleet, as the carrier company seeks to improve its connectivity throughout Scandinavia and Europe. This jet offers seating for 120-146 passengers and features a flying range of 3,000 nautical miles (5,556 km). Such remarkable features must have been boosting the demand for the E195-E2 jets, as evidenced by the latest order and the company's delivery of an E195-E2 jet to Mexicana last month. This delivery was part of a larger 2024 deal to supply 10 E195-E2 aircraft to Mexico's state-owned carrier. Opportunities Ahead for ERJ Stock Rising air passenger traffic, backed by enhanced air travel among passengers and executives, along with the increasing demand for fuel-efficient and modern aircraft, is driving growth for commercial passenger jets. To this end, jet giant Airbus EADSY expects the world's passenger fleet to nearly double during the 2025-2044 period, with the demand for new commercial jets totaling 43,420 new aircraft. This demand trend should bode well for fuel-efficient jet makers like Embraer. Embraer's Commercial Aviation segment backlog at the end of the first quarter of 2025 was $10 billion, while that for executive jets amounted to $7.6 billion. Such a strong backlog not only reflects the consistent demand for ERJ's aircraft from commercial airlines, like the latest one, but also strengthens the company's revenue generation prospects. Prospects for Other Aerospace Stocks Other aerospace stocks that stand to benefit from the growing commercial aviation market are as follows: Airbus SE: It is one of the forerunners in the global commercial aircraft space. Its order backlog amounted to 8,726 commercial aircraft at the end of March 2025. Airbus has a long-term (three to five years) earnings growth rate of 4%. The Zacks Consensus Estimate for EADSY's 2025 sales suggests a year-over-year improvement of 12.9%. The Boeing Company BA: It has been a premier manufacturer of commercial jetliners for decades. Its Commercial Airplanes segment had a backlog of $460.4 billion as of March 31, 2025. Boeing has a long-term earnings growth rate of 18.1%. The Zacks Consensus Estimate for BA's 2025 sales suggests a year-over-year improvement of 25.6%. Textron Inc. TXT: Its Textron Aviation unit is a well-known designer of business jet brands like Cessna and Beechcraft. The segment's order backlog as of March 29, 2025 was $7.9 billion. Textron boasts a long-term earnings growth rate of 10%. The Zacks Consensus Estimate for TXT's 2025 sales calls for a year-over-year improvement of 6.6%. ERJ Stock Price Movement In the past six months, Embraer shares have risen 59.4% compared with the industry 's growth of 22.6%. ERJ's Zacks Rank Embraer currently carries a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold). ASML vs. LRCX: Which Semiconductor Equipment Stock Is the Better Buy?

ASML Holding ASML and Lam Research LRCX are both essential players in the semiconductor equipment industry. ASML leads in lithography technology, while LRCX focuses on etching and deposition systems, making them integral to the chipmaking process. In simple terms, ASML prints the chip patterns on silicon wafers. After that, Lam Research comes in with tools to build out and refine the chip's structure. That means they don't compete, but they complement each other. However, from an investment point of view, one stock offers more upside potential than the other right now. Let's see which one is a better investment option for now. ASML: Core Technology With Global Demand Amid Rising Risks ASML Holding has a clear advantage in the chip equipment market. It is the only company capable of producing extreme ultraviolet (EUV) lithography machines at scale. These machines are needed to make chips at 5nm, 3nm and soon 2nm levels — key to powering artificial intelligence (AI) processors, mobile devices and data centers. The company is already rolling out its next-generation High-NA EUV machines, which will be used for even smaller chips. As demand for faster and more efficient chips rises, especially with the growth of AI, ASML Holding stands to benefit. Its machines are a necessary part of the chip supply chain, and its customers, including TSMC, Intel and Samsung, will rely on ASML's technology for years to come. Financially, ASML Holding is performing well. In the first quarter of 2025, it reported revenue growth of 46% and a 93% jump in earnings per share. For the full year, it expects revenues to increase 15%, which shows continued demand, even in a challenging global environment. However, one concern is the company's exposure to China. In 2024, China made up 41% of ASML's shipments. U.S. pressure on the Dutch government has led to export restrictions on some of ASML's most advanced equipment, which could limit future sales in that market. Still, strong demand from other regions may offset that risk. Lam Research: Targeted Execution With Margin Momentum Lam Research is capitalizing on the AI trends. It builds the tools chipmakers need to manufacture next-generation semiconductors, including high-bandwidth memory and chips used in advanced packaging. These technologies are vital for powering AI and cloud data centers. Lam Research's products are not only critical but also innovative. For example, its ALTUS ALD tool uses molybdenum to improve speed and efficiency in chip production. Another product, the Aether platform, helps chipmakers achieve higher performance and density. These are essential capabilities as demand for advanced AI chips increases. In 2024, Lam Research's shipments for gate-all-around nodes and advanced packaging exceeded $1 billion, and management expects this figure to triple to more than $3 billion in 2025. Additionally, the industry's migration to backside power distribution and dry-resist processing presents further growth opportunities for LRCX's cutting-edge fabrication solutions. These trends are aiding Lam Research's financial performance. In the third quarter of fiscal 2025, the company reported revenues of $4.72 billion, up 24.5% year over year, and non-GAAP EPS of $1.04, highlighting a 33.3% increase (adjusting for stock split). The most impressive was Lam Research's margin performance. The non-GAAP gross margin expanded 150 basis points sequentially to 49% in the third quarter, and the company's guidance of 49.5% in the fourth quarter reflects further expansion. Similarly, the non-GAAP operating margin improved 210 basis points to 32.8%, and the fourth-quarter guidance indicates a further expansion of 70 basis points sequentially. Lam Research's improving margins indicate that the company continues to manage supply-chain risks effectively, even amid geopolitical tensions and new tariff threats. ASML vs. LRCX: Price Performance and Valuation Year to date, shares of ASML Holding and Lam Research have risen 14.1% and 33.9%, respectively. On the valuation front, ASML is trading at a forward earnings multiple of 27.34X, higher than LRCX's 24.17X. While both companies are of high quality, Lam Research looks more reasonably priced, especially considering its stronger near-term momentum. Conclusion: LRCX Is the Better Buy for Now Both ASML Holding and Lam Research are critical to the chipmaking process and have strong positions in the AI-driven semiconductor cycle. However, from an investment standpoint, Lam Research is currently the better pick. LRCX has better recent stock performance, improving margins, strong product demand and a lower valuation. While ASML is a long-term winner in lithography, the near-term upside and financial execution at Lam Research make it a more attractive investment choice right now. LRCX carries a Zacks Rank #2 (Buy), making it a clear winner over ASML, which has a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold) at present. You can see the complete list of today's Zacks #1 Rank (Strong Buy) stocks here.
