The wellness studio is a unique space in Cardiff offering on-demand Pilates as well as other fitness and mindfulness classes
Cardiff-born owner, Kelly Powling opened her first wellness studio this month and hopes to open more across the UK
A stunning new wellness studio has opened up in Cardiff, bringing movement and community to Wales' capital. With wellness taking the world by storm as new fitness classes become trendy more and more people are improving their physical and mental well-being.
Kelly Powling, 27, opened her first studio, OREN, near Newport Road in Cardiff this month offering a plethora of popular fitness and wellness classes. The aim of the studio is to bring a sense of calm, support and elevation to people's mind and body.

The studio was designed to perfectly match its name, with an orange colour palette throughout the location on Rhymney River Bridge Road, Penylan.

The Cardiff-born owner said she "couldn't imagine launching OREN anywhere else" other than her home town.
She said: "The city has so much energy, and there's a growing appetite for high-quality, considered wellness spaces. I felt there was a real gap for something that blended premium design with purposeful movement and recovery - a space that felt calm, elevated, and welcoming."

Whilst Kelly is new to the fitness industry, she has created a name for herself with her background in marketing creating spaces such as @Cardifffoodie, which she has run for over eight years, a women's networking platform Fierce Femmes as well as co-owning the Penny's Podcast Studio with her sister in Rhiwbina.
OREN opened its doors to the public on May 11, but the process to getting there was a journey for Kelly and the team she worked with to make it possible.

She said: "It's been intense, emotional, and surreal. Every part of the studio has been designed with intention - from the Recovery Suite to the colour palette, lighting, and scent. I've learned so much, and I've poured everything into it.
"I've also had incredible help from the experts around me - it's been a real team effort. From Linds Saunders-Jones at Brand Interior Agency, who brought the design vision to life, to Joe at Clear Choice, who's led the build with so much care and precision, and Nicole Roberts from Nicole Roberts Agency, who helped shape the brand - I couldn't be more grateful for the people who've supported this and helped make OREN what it is.

"There's been stress, of course, but I wouldn't change a thing. Seeing it all come together has been the most rewarding experience."

Cardiff among UK's most expensive spots for parking

Drivers in the Welsh capital have been warned to check local parking charges before setting off, or risk a nasty shock when they reach the ticket machine. This comes following a recent study by NetVoucherCodes that revealed the councils with the biggest increases in on-street parking prices from the past 12 months. Introducing the list, the experts said: "Motorists are facing eye-watering rises in on-street parking charges, with new figures revealing that some councils have doubled their rates in the past year. "The data experts at NetVoucherCodes wanted to see to what extent, and so analysed current on-street parking costs for the centre of each city and compared these with prices a year ago. "According to the data, some councils have doubled their on-street parking costs while others charge up to £9 for an hour of parking." Councils with the biggest increases in on-street parking prices The councils that have recorded the biggest increases in on-street parking prices over the past year, according to NetVoucherCodes, are: Milton Keynes (100%) Liverpool (67%) York (56%) Cardiff (35%) Manchester (33%) Leicester (25%) Oxford (15%) Birmingham (13%) Bristol (13%) Glasgow (13%) Cardiff among UK's most expensive spots for on-street parking In the past 12 months, on-street parking charges in Cardiff have increased by 90p, from £2.60 in 2024 to £3.50 in 2025. This is the fourth-highest increase out of anywhere in the UK, behind only Milton Keynes, Liverpool, and York. Cardiff now also ranks among the country's most expensive spots for on-street parking: Edinburgh (£9.00) Cambridge (£8.40) Oxford (£7.60) Glasgow (£7.20) London (£7.20) York (£4.85) Bristol (£4.50) Birmingham (£4.30) Liverpool (£4.00) Manchester (£4.00) Cardiff (£3.50) Leeds (£3.40) Sheffield (£3.25) Newcastle (£3.10) Nottingham (£3.00) RECOMMENDED READING: Consumer expert at NetVoucherCodes, Rebecca Bebbington, said: 'Steep rises risk pricing people out of city centres, harming local businesses as fewer visitors are willing to pay the sky-high charges. "With the cost of living already spiralling, these huge hikes are unfair on drivers who have little alternative but to use their cars. "Councils should be supporting the recovery of high streets, not punishing people for popping into town.' Cardiff Council has been contacted for comment.

I'll never go back to ‘depressing UK' – I quit my waitress job to jet off & now rake in £120k a year living in paradise

Kelly Wickramasuriya, 24, packed her bags and moved to Thailand at just 21, expecting to run out of money within weeks. Kelly said: 'I find the UK super depressing. 'People are always complaining and have a victim mindset.' Originally from Essex, Kelly says she was stuck in a rut, working long shifts at an Italian restaurant in Covent Garden, scraping by on low wages and only going out for special occasions. 'I couldn't afford the amount of hobbies I have right now,' she said. 'Back then, my big treat was going to the pub at the weekend. Now, I do acroyoga, take singing classes and learn languages – all under the sun.' After graduating from uni in 2022, Kelly booked a one-way ticket to Thailand, hoping to travel for the summer before reality pulled her back home. She added: 'I had £1,000 in my account. I thought I'd be sofa-surfing back in the UK by the end of the month. 'But I was desperate not to go back.' Instead, she scoured the internet for ways to make money remotely and stumbled across user-generated content (UGC) creation, filming videos for brands to post on social media. Strictly star reveals she's quitting UK to live in Dubai without boyfriend who grew up there Kelly explained: 'I started creating content for brands and it just took off. I'm now earning five times what I made as a waitress." These days, her 'office' is wherever she wants. It could be a sunbed in Bali, her Dubai apartment balcony or a beachfront café in Thailand. She also travels regularly to Australia, Vietnam and Sri Lanka. Her day-to-day routine is a far cry from her old life in grey, chilly London. She added: 'I wake up with no alarm, meditate for an hour, then hit the gym or grab breakfast at a cute café. "I work a few hours and then I'm off to a class or hobby, whatever I feel like.' Kelly says the shift in her mental health since leaving the UK has been huge and it's not just the sunshine that's helped. 'The people and the energy are totally different. "Everyone is friendlier and happier. It rubs off on you. In the UK, it's cold and people are just miserable.' Despite missing her loved ones, Kelly insists her relationships haven't suffered. She said: 'We FaceTime all the time, and they come out to visit me. My best friends are now scattered all over the world and I love that.' She's even inspired her family to follow in her footsteps. She said: 'My mum started UGC too, she's 55, has a full-time job and managed to fly herself out to see me. If she can do it, anyone can.' And while she'll occasionally pop back to Essex to visit, Kelly says her future is firmly overseas. 'I'll go home to see family for a month every year or two but that's it. The UK is one of the most depressing countries in the world. "After living abroad, I completely get why.' She added: 'It's really not hard to change your life. If it doesn't work out, you can always go back – but I know I never will.' She's not the only Brit trading dreary, concrete skylines for golden sands. A young woman recently revealed how her health improved after she moved from the UK to Dubai, saying life at home was 'making her sick'. Ela Reeves was struggling with a series of health conditions prior to the move, including chronic fatigue, sore joints and acne. With her body 'crying out for change', she decided to try life in sunnier climes and jetted off to Dubai for a new life in January and has never looked back. How easy is it to move abroad? Brexit means British citizens now have to apply for visas to move to countries within the EU. While some countries residency restrictions are easier than others, here's what you need to do at home before moving: Notify HMRC about your upcoming move. Let your local authority know and provide a forwarding address. Contact your mortgage and utility providers and bank before leaving. If you have paid enough UK national insurance contributions, you can qualify for a state pension abroad - contact the International Pension Centre. You can sign up to the Royal Mail's redirection service. If you have outstanding student loans, contact the Student Loans Centre. If you have children, give due notice to childcares and schools. 5 Now she urges others to do the same and earn an income abroad Credit: jam press 5 She also spends time travelling around other countries Credit: Jam press
