Warner Bros. Pictures Unveils Release Date For Chinese Co-Production ‘Tom And Jerry: Forbidden Compass'
EXCLUSIVE: Warner Bros. Pictures will release Chinese co-produced animated feature Tom and Jerry: Forbidden Compass on August 9 in China.
The film is set to make its world premiere at the ongoing Shanghai International Film Festival.

Tom and Jerry: Forbidden Compass follows the iconic cat-and-mouse duo as they accidentally travel through time in a museum. Along their journey, they meet a group of intriguing new companions and become involved in a final showdown with mysterious forces.
Produced by Warner Bros. Pictures in China, Tom and Jerry: Forbidden Compass will be distributed in the country by Wu Zhou Film Distribution Co. Ltd.
Chinese director Zhang Gang helmed the project, after previously co-directing Kuiba 3.
Zhang also worked on the animation for No.7 Cherry Lane, which won the Best Screenplay Award in the main competition section at the Venice International Film Festival in 2019.
This is not the first time that Warner Bros. has adapted the Tom and Jerry IP into a localized version for an Asian market.
In 2023, WBD made its first-ever localized version of Tom and Jerry, set in Singapore. This premiered as a series of shorts on Cartoon Network and HBO Go across various Asian territories, before a global rollout.
Another series of Tom and Jerry shorts was also made for Japanese audiences.
This year marks the 85th anniversary of Tom and Jerry, after the duo was first created in 1940 as an animated cartoon series by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera.Best of Deadline

Henry Golding thinks playing James Bond would be a "nightmare". The 38-year-old actor has been widely tipped as one of the candidates to replace Daniel Craig as 007, but Henry acknowledges that the role carries a lot pressure and expectation. He told People: "I think that's every actor's kind of nightmare. But at the same time, [you're] also wanting to kind of add something new to a franchise." However, the actor argued that the world is not yet ready for a non-white Bond. Henry - who was born in Malaysia, but raised in the UK - told Attitude magazine: "It does seem to be a question that always comes up. It was definitely from Crazy Rich Asians, maybe [the scene with] the white suit coming out the park. "I'm Asian and everybody's fighting for a diverse Bond - sorry, white guys." Henry thinks it's "great" that non-white actors are being linked to the role of Bond. And the actor admitted to being flattered to even have been spoken about as a possible candidate for the coveted part. He said: "Isn't it great that we're having that conversation? Isn't it great that people are like, 'Ok, now it's time, why the hell can't we have a black Bond, an Asian Bond, a mixed-race Bond, a non-distinct Bond?' "I don't know ... It's an honour to even be in the conversation."

Former PlayStation boss Shuhei Yoshida has called the Japan-exclusive edition of the Nintendo Switch 2 an "amazing business decision." Worlds collided recently as former PlayStation head Shuhei Yoshida joined forces with Nintendo of America's former marketing leads Kit Ellis and Krysta Yang on an episode of their podcast. They spoke about their time working at the respective companies, with the topic of the rivalry between the DS and the PSP naturally coming up during the conversation. Despite being a player for the other team, Yoshida was extremely positive about the Switch 2, especially the Japanese-only edition that costs $110 less than the worldwide edition, with the caveat that you'll only be able to play Japanese region Nintendo games on it. Yoshida said the direction from Nintendo was "mind boggling," but an "amazing business decision." "I do not necessarily think other companies like PlayStation would emulate what they did," he added. "It doesn't make sense to me, you know, selling the same thing for such a different price for other consumers." Yoshida notes "it's clearly showing they want to keep the strong hold in Japan that they already have… that's an amazing decision they have made." Handhelds are an extremely strong market in Japan, and pretty much always have been. It's the reason Monster Hunter was pretty much a handheld-exclusive series for so long before the series took off worldwide. So Nintendo offering a cheaper way to get more handheld systems out to Japanese consumers is arguably a good plan, even if selling a console at a significant regional discount at launch is, as Yoshida said, "mind boggling." Wind Waker on Nintendo Switch 2 made two tiny changes that break it wide open for Zelda speedrunners – a strategy so hard "only a few people in the whole world can do it" is suddenly a lot easier.

Shefali Jariwala, Actress and Model, Dies at 42, Police Launch Investigation into Her Death

Police told ANI that an autopsy was being conducted at Cooper Hospital, as Jariwala's 'cause of death is not yet clear.' However, several outlets have reported that a cardiac arrest may be the cause, per The Hindustan Times. PEOPLE reached out to Mumbai police for comment and additional details on Saturday, June 28, but did not receive an immediate response. The actress' husband, actor Parag Tyagi, whom she wed in 2015, rushed her to the hospital, per The Indian Express. Her family members were by her side at the hospital throughout the night, per ANI. Jariwala's family has not yet released a statement.
