Salem Corporation provides manure produced at MCCs to farmers for free

The Hindua day ago
The Salem Corporation is providing manure produced at the micro composting centres (MCC) to farmers free of cost. The farmers can furnish their Aadhaar cards and collect the manure.
The 60 wards in the Corporation generate over 550 tonnes of garbage every day, which is segregated as biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste. The biodegradable waste is sent to the MCCs located at 36 places to produce manure, and the remaining is sent to the Chettichavadi dump yard.
Each MCC has the capacity to produce two tonnes of manure. This manure is being provided free of cost to farmers and people involved in terrace gardening.
Corporation Commissioner M. Elangovan was instructed to provide this manure to farmers. The Commissioner inspected MCCs and directed the staff to distribute the manure for free. The details of manure distributed to farmers should be provided at the monthly farmers' grievances redress meetings.
Civic body officials said that at present 200 tonnes of manure are available at the MCCs. The farmers can furnish their Aadhaar cards along with the application for receiving the manure. People who own terrace gardens can also apply with proper details, the officials added.
