Report: Nick Robertson's Arbitration Hearing Date With Maple Leafs Revealed
There's a date for restricted free agent Nick Robertson's arbitration hearing with the Toronto Maple Leafs. According to the 23-year-old's hearing date is set for August 3, though there's always the chance that he and the Maple Leafs agree on a number before they reach arbitration. Robertson was extended a qualifying offer by Toronto, allowing the club to retain his rights entering the offseason, before filing for arbitration on July 5. Robertson is coming off a career year for goals with 15, plus seven assists for 22 points in 69 games this season. It was also a career year for games played, however, the forward lost out on a lineup spot once the playoffs rolled around. He appeared in three games with Toronto in the postseason, registering a goal and an assist in that span, against the Ottawa Senators and Florida Panthers. It's now over a year since Robertson reportedly requested a trade out of Toronto before signing a one-year, $875,000 contract with the team on September 10. You'll Need Prime Video To Watch These 6 Key Maple Leafs Games in 2025-26 Amazon's streaming service, Prime Video, has released its upcoming schedule of games for the 2025-26 season, which will exclusively feature six Toronto Maple Leafs games for the second consecutive year. "I think Nick is a good player," Maple Leafs general manager Brad Treliving said in June. "He's still a young player, he's still an evolving player, but he's got a skill set, and he shoots it in the net. That's a good skill set to have." With Toronto's increased depth, it'll still be difficult for Robertson to crack the Maple Leafs' lineup consistently next season. The club added Matias Maccelli, Nicolas Roy, and Dakota Joshua this summer via trades, while losing Mitch Marner, Pontus Holmberg, and potentially Max Pacioretty. However, the Maple Leafs can use his scoring touch within their bottom six. In 156 career games with Toronto, Robertson has 56 points (32 goals and 24 assists), while averaging just over 11.5 minutes per game. 'Always Working His Ass Off': Sharks' Ryan Reaves Praises Auston Matthews After First Year As Maple Leafs Captain Auston Matthews might have had a down year with goalscoring, but there was growth in other facets of his game. The last Maple Leafs player to opt for arbitration was former Toronto forward Connor Dewar. The NHLPA revealed on July 4, 2024, that he elected for salary arbitration. Dewar and the Maple Leafs agreed to a one-year, $1.18 million contract 19 days later, on July 23. Other RFAs who've elected for arbitration this summer include Chicago Blackhawks' Arvid Soderblom (July 28), New York Islanders' Maxim Tsyplakov (July 29), Winnipeg Jets' Dylan Samberg (July 30), Buffalo Sabres' Conor Timmins (August 2), and Montreal Canadiens' Jayden Struble (August 3). CF Montréal pledges rebuild in open letter, acquires defender Morales from Atlanta
MONTREAL - CF Montreal has started its rebuild quickly. The Major League Soccer club announced Wednesday that it has acquired 21-year-old defender Efraín Morales from Atlanta United in return for US$450,000 in 2025 general allocation money (GAM) and $350,000 in conditional GAM. Atlanta would also retain a percentage of a future transfer involving Morales The move came hours after club executives published an open letter to fans that acknowledged the team's shortcomings and stated the club would begin a new chapter rooted in ambition, pride and winning. President and CEO Gabriel Gervais, managing director of recruitment and sporting methodology Luca Saputo and managing director of academy strategy and roster management Simone Saputo signed the letter. Montreal is currently languishing at the bottom of the MLS with a 3-15-6 record — for 15 points in 24 games — and dropped out of the Canadian Championship with a quarterfinal loss to lower-tier Forge FC of the Canadian Premier League in a bleak season. The letter said supporters would see concrete steps toward a rebuild in the upcoming transfer windows. The MLS summer window, which allows clubs to sign players plying their trades in other countries, opens Thursday. Montreal had the league's lowest payroll last season. Morales is making $112,019 this year, according to the website . Morales began his professional career in 2020 with Atlanta United 2, where he had three goals and an assist over three USL Championship seasons and three MLS Next Pro seasons. He made his MLS debut with Atlanta in a 3-0 victory over the Charlotte Independence in the fourth round of the U.S. Open Cup on May 7, 2024. Over two MLS seasons, Morales has played 648 minutes over nine games and picked up one assist. He also played in three U.S. Open Cup games. Born in Decatur, Ga., Morales represents Bolivia on the international stage. Full letter: 'We have not met the standards we set for ourselves, nor those you have the right to expect. That is why we felt the need to communicate with you directly today. We share your dissatisfaction with the Club's results, and it is our responsibility to build a winning team that we can all be proud of. That is why we have decided to undertake a rebuild and launch a new chapter at CF Montréal. A chapter based on ambition and pride. A new era with victory at the heart of our sporting ambitions, while also honouring our rich history and the connection with you, our 12th player. We know that trust is regained through actions. As such, during the upcoming transfer windows, you will see concrete steps, a committed team, and strong initiatives aimed at rebuilding, together, a Club that deserves your loyalty.' This report by The Canadian Press was first published July 23, 2025.
