Indore: Madhya Pradesh police is moving towards adopting a paperless system, with digitisation of critical processes already underway, said director general of police (DGP) Kailash Makwana on Sunday.
While interacting with senior police officials from Indore police commissionerate and Indore range, the DGP said the state police is gradually transitioning key operations to digital platforms. The goal is to go completely paperless, ensuring faster, transparent, and more efficient policing, he told the officers.
The meeting focused on improving crime control strategies, boosting operational effectiveness, and strengthening community-based policing.
With cybercrime and drug-related offences on the rise, the DGP emphasised the need for law enforcement to evolve alongside these modern challenges. "Along with strict legal action, it's equally important to engage the community through awareness and outreach programmes.
Public participation is vital in controlling emerging threats," said DGP Makwana.
Officers were directed to align with the department's digital transformation roadmap and make greater use of technology in investigations, records management, and communication.
The DGP also reviewed the performance of various districts under the range and acknowledged the role of officers working in sensitive areas.
He interacted with the media after the meeting. When asked about the alleged delay in arresting Sonam Raghuvanshi, who was in Indore for several days evading arrest in the infamous Raja Raghuwanshi murder case, DGP Makwana pointed to the challenges of tracking individuals in large urban areas like Indore.
"Many people own multiple houses, and even the landlords often don't know who is coming or staying at which property.
No one keeps track. In such a large commissionerate, how can the police possibly know unless they receive specific input," he said.
On rising cases of 'love jihad' in cities like Indore and Bhopal, he said special instructions have been issued to officers to remain vigilant. "The officials have been asked to stay in touch with hostel wardens and schools and colleges," he added.
The DGP also spoke on internal reforms within the police department. He said officers, who were stationed at police stations for extended periods, were transferred to encourage fresh energy and efficiency.
He said plans are afoot to increase police force strength and re-evaluate the jurisdiction of newly established police stations to ensure better service delivery.
On the occasion, DGP Makwana also presented ISO certification mementos to Rajendra Nagar and Tejaji Nagar police stations, recognising improvements in their functioning.

Ravada A. Chandrasekhar is new Kerala State Police Chief

The Kerala Cabinet, which met virtually on Monday (June 30, 2025) under the chairmanship of Chief Minster Pinarayi Vijayan, decided to appoint Director General of Police (DGP) Ravada A. Chandrasekhar as the new State Police Chief (SPC). The decision ends weeks of speculation over the successor to incumbent SPC Shaik Darvesh Saheb, who retires today (June 30). #Kerala#DGP Sheikh Darvesh Sahib during his farewell parade at SAP ground in Thiruvananthapuram on Monday 📸 @ — The Hindu - Kerala (@THKerala) June 30, 2025 A 1991-batch officer of the Kerala cadre, Mr. Chandrasekhar currently serves as the Special Director in the Intelligence Bureau. He has been asked to return to Kerala from New Delhi to assume charge at the earliest. In the interim, sources indicate that a senior officer may temporarily head the force until his arrival. Key posts Mr. Chandrasekhar, a native of West Godavari in Andhra Pradesh, began his career in Kerala as Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) in Thalassery. Over the years, he has held key posts, including Deputy Inspector General of Thrissur and Kochi Ranges, and the Commissioner of Police, Thiruvananthapuram City. He also served a stint with the United Nations on deputation, before his repatriation to the post of Inspector General, State Crime Records Bureau. Koothuparamba incident The CPI(M)-led Left Democratic Front (LDF) apparently chose to disregard the potential fallout of appointing Mr. Chandrasekhar, whose involvement in the Koothuparamba firing incident of November 25, 1994, as the then ASP, had made him an adversary of CPI(M) workers. Despite being implicated in the case, the officer and others had been acquitted by the Kerala High Court in 2012. Five Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) workers were killed, and six others were injured after the police opened fire on a protest against the then United Democratic Front (UDF) government's educational policy. Mr. Chandrasekhar, who was second in the shortlist recommended by the Union Public Service Commission, pipped DGPs Nitin Agrawal and Yogesh Gupta to the top post. The State government also reportedly considered DGP Manoj Abraham and Additional DGP M.R. Ajith Kumar, who faced criticism over the Thrissur Pooram fiasco, for the role.
