Trump to be nominated for Nobel peace prize
Clashes between the two neighboring countries broke out late last week, with each accusing the other of firing first. At least 43 people were killed in intense skirmishes, which lasted five days and displaced more than 300,000 people on both sides of the border.
Speaking to reporters earlier in the Cambodian capital, Phnom Penh, Chanthol thanked Trump for intervening and said he deserved to be nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize. The prize is the highest-profile international award given to an individual or organization deemed to have done the most to 'advance fellowship between nations'.
Most recently, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu nominated Trump for the prize for his work in 2020 negotiating the Abraham Accords between Israel and several other Arab nations. Netanyahu's letter to the prize committee, which he handed to the president at the White House during a visit on July 7, said Trump had 'created new opportunities to expand the circle of peace and normalization' in the Middle East.
Trump has assisted Israel's war in Gaza and has also aided in its campaign against Iran, authorizing a mission in June to destroy Iran's nuclear enrichment sites. Pakistan also said in June that it would recommend Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize for his work in helping to resolve a conflict it had with India back in May.
The Nobel Peace Prize is awarded annually on December 10, the anniversary of Alfred Nobel's death. The ceremony is held in Oslo, Norway. After peace was declared between Cambodia and Thailand, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said in a post on X that Trump made it happen. 'Give him the Nobel Peace Prize!,' she said.

Trump said last week Washington was still negotiating with India on trade after announcing the U.S. would impose a 25% tariff on goods imported from the country starting last Friday. India has faced pressure from the West, including the U.S., to distance itself from Moscow after Russia invaded Ukraine in early 2022. Washington has cited geopolitical disagreements with India to explain why it has not yet been able to reach a trade deal with New Delhi. Other than India's ties with Russia, Trump has cast the BRICS group of developing nations - of which India is a key part - as hostile to the U.S. Those nations have dismissed that accusation, saying the group promotes the interests of its members and of developing countries at large. A spokesperson for India's foreign ministry said India will "take all necessary measures to safeguard its national interests and economic security." "In this background, the targeting of India is unjustified and unreasonable," the spokesperson added. India began importing oil from Russia because traditional supplies were diverted to Europe after the outbreak of the Ukraine conflict, the Indian statement said. The spokesperson said India's imports were meant to ensure affordable energy costs for Indian consumers and were a "necessity compelled by global market situation." The statement also noted the West's, particularly the European Union's, bilateral trade with Russia: "It is revealing that the very nations criticizing India are themselves indulging in trade with Russia." India also has been frustrated by Trump repeatedly taking credit for an India-Pakistan ceasefire that he announced on social media on May 10. The ceasefire halted days of hostilities between the nuclear-armed Asian neighbors. India's position has been that New Delhi and Islamabad must resolve their issues directly without outside involvement. Trump has reached a trade deal with Pakistan.

While she hasn't expressed direct interest in the U.S. Senate, Republicans seem interested in offering up her up as a radioactive option to Texas voters. Polling released by the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) last month showed Crockett leading a hypothetical Democratic primary with 35 percent of likely voters, followed by former Rep. Colin Allred at 20 percent and former U.S. Senate candidate Beto O'Rourke and Rep. Joaquin Castro tied at 13 percent. Republican Sen. John Cornyn, who is seeking a fifth term, is facing his own Republican primary from Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton.
