Egypt, Germany hold talks on African affairs in Cairo

CAIRO, Jan 27 (MENA) - Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for African Affairs Ambassador Ihab Awad and Director for Sub-Saharan Africa & the Sahel at Germany's Federal Foreign Office Christoph Retzlaff chaired a consultation session on Africa here on Monday.
The two sides shared their views on the most prominent developments at the African level, especially in the situation in Sudan, the Horn of Africa, and the Sahel region.
They also discussed counterterrorism efforts in Africa, as well as the Nile water dispute.
The talks also covered prospects of mutual cooperation on some issues of common concern in Africa, including Egypt's peacebuilding efforts in Africa, whether the post-conflict reconstruction efforts led by President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, or the efforts made by the Cairo International Centre for Conflict Resolution, Peacekeeping and Peacebuilding (CCCPA).
The Egyptian side also highlighted Egypt's development role in Africa.
During the talks, the Egyptian Agency for Partnership for Development (EAPD) briefed the German side on its ongoing and future development activities in Africa.

ICESCO Showcases Its Efforts to Empower Youth at 'Youth Knowledge Forum'

Mohamed Mandour The Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO) participated in the fourth 'Youth Knowledge Forum,' organized in Cairo by the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Knowledge Foundation (MBRF) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), in cooperation with the Egyptian Ministry of Youth and Sports. In a key working session titled 'Complementarity between governments and international institutions in supporting the knowledge economy,' Dr. Sally Mabrouk, Director of the Office of ICESCO Director-General and Supervisor of the Strategy and Institutional Excellence Sector, reviewed the main programs and initiatives of the Organization aimed at supporting young people in its Member States, particularly in the areas of knowledge, digital transformation, and entrepreneurship. Dr. Mabrouk also reviewed the main thrusts of the 'Youth Knowledge Forum in the Islamic World,' which was recently organized by ICESCO in partnership with MBRF at ICESCO headquarters in Rabat. The Forum saw a large youth interaction and intensive intellectual activity. The ICESCO delegation also included Taqwa Al Ali, in charge of innovation; Fatma El Ghalia Hannani, strategic planning analyst; and Youssef Stelate, application developer in the Digital Transformation Department. The interventions of the delegation members focused on their role in the success of the third edition of the Forum, which was held in Morocco, reviewing their practical experiences and contributions in implementing innovative knowledge empowerment programs for young participants. ICESCO's participation in this major regional event reflects its strategic commitment to empowering youth and promoting the knowledge economy in Member States, as part of its vision to create interactive platforms for the younger generation to participate in decision-making and the achievement of sustainable development. It is also part of the Organization's efforts to strengthen partnerships with regional and international institutions concerned with youth and innovation issues. Al-Mashat, WB Regional Director Discuss Advancing Multilateral Co-op to Enhance Economic Development in Egypt

Nada Mustafa Dr. Rania Al-Mashat, Minister of Planning, Economic Development, and International Cooperation, held a meeting with Mr. Stephane Guimbert, Regional Director of the World Bank for Egypt, Yemen, and Djibouti, to discuss avenues to strengthen joint cooperation to achieve economic development in Egypt. The Minister of Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation discussed with the World Bank Regional Director the joint efforts to enhance economic development by leveraging the World Bank's international expertise and capabilities, emphasizing the importance of the partnership with the World Bank Group as a knowledge partner to the Egyptian government. Where joint work is underway to develop a comprehensive implementation plan to achieve economic development in cooperation with ministries and national entities, aiming to support macroeconomic stability, provide development financing, promote industrial development and trade, mobilize foreign direct investment (FDI), and increase investment in human capital. H.E. also highlighted the Ministry's efforts to implement the national narrative for economic development, which includes several pillars such as the preparation of the National Strategy for Industrial Development, which aims to increase exports, and enhance the value-added of manufacturing industries, and expand the contribution of the green economy to the GDP, as well as on enhancing integration and coherence between the FDI strategy and industrial development, supporting the labor market strategy focused on skills, and promote investment in human capital. She pointed out that this document comes within the framework of the effort to formulate a unified development discourse that reflects the state's priorities, enhances the consistency of macroeconomic policies, and serves as a common reference for the government, international institutions, and development partners. The meeting also discussed updates regarding the World Bank's portfolio, including the Universal Health Insurance Project, the Sustainable Rural Sanitation Services Program, and the Takaful and Karama Program. Discussions also covered the latest developments in the Upper Egypt Local Development Program and the Cairo-Alexandria Trade Logistics Development Project, which is being implemented in cooperation with the National Railways Authority of Egypt (NRA). For his part, Mr. Stephane Guimbert, Regional Director of the World Bank for Egypt, presented an overview of a new global health initiative led by the World Bank, which aims to expand basic health coverage to an additional 1.5 billion people worldwide, focusing on middle- and low-income countries. Armed Forces greet president al-Sisi on July 23 Revolution anniversary

Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces and Minister of Defense and Military Production Abdelmaguid Sakr sent on Monday, July 21, 2025, a cable to greet President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, on the anniversary of the July 23 Revolution. In his cable, Sakr hailed the sacrifices of the great Egyptian people who built a strong state enjoying freedom and independence. 'The personnel of the Armed Forces reaffirm their unwavering loyalty and steadfastness under your wise leadership, respect their oath and committed to the principles of the revolution. They stand united with the Egyptian people and institutions in building a strong and modern state protected by a vigilant army that safeguards its security and stability, defends its strategic and national interests, and deters any threats to its sovereignty and the resources of its great people,' the Defense Minister said in his cable to the president. A similar cable was sent by Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces Ahmed Khalifa to the president on July 23 Revolution anniversary. Meanwhile, the Defense Minister issued directives to extend greetings to all commanders, officers, non-commissioned officers, soldiers, civilian personnel of the Armed Forces, and members participating in peacekeeping missions.
