Signboard_wala
's witty placards across Mumbai's iconic locations to combat online fraud.

Gujarat high court awards life term to two women for setting another ablaze

Ahmedabad: The Gujarat high court sentenced two women to life imprisonment for burning a woman alive in Porbandar district 15 years ago on basis of her dying declarations. The district court had disbelieved the dying declarations and acquitted the two cousins, in Sep 2012. The state govt challenged the acquittal, and the high court found them guilty of murder and sentenced them. According to case details, the deceased woman was separated from her husband and lived at her maternal home in Ranavav town of Porbandar. One of the two counsins suspected her of intimacy with her husband. The two cousins beat the woman and then poured kerosene and set her ablaze. She was rushed to the hospital. Before she succumbed to her burn injuries, her statements were recorded by a doctor, an executive magistrate, and a police sub-inspector. The trial court rejected the dying declarations on the ground that a person who sustained 90-95% burn injuries would not be in a position to give a statement. The trial court also found her thumb impressions doubtful and acquitted the cousins. The HC, after hearing the state govt's appeal, reversed the trial court's order. The bench of Justice C M Roy and Justice D M Vyas found the grounds on which the trial court rejected the dying declarations as "perverse in nature". by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Why Seniors Are Snapping Up This TV Box, We Explain! The trial court lost sight of the fact that dying declaration is a valid piece of evidence and it cannot be thrown out or rejected on such technicalities, which are legally not tenable. " The HC further stated, "We are of the considered view that the dying declarations of the deceased are true, voluntary and inspire full confidence in the mind of the court regarding the veracity of the statements given by her and the same are to be accepted as a sole basis for conviction of the accused." The convicts pleaded for leniency in punishment, citing their responsibilities for minor children. The HC ordered life imprisonment for them but directed the govt to consider granting the benefit of remission to them after they serve 14 years of sentence. SIT retrieves crucial video evidence in liquor scam case

1 2 Vijayawada: In a significant breakthrough in the ongoing investigation into the multi-crore liquor scam, the special investigation team (SIT) retrieved incriminating video footage that is expected to intensify the legal and political ramifications of the case. According to highly placed sources, SIT officials secured never-before-seen visuals that reportedly show a key accused counting large bundles of cash, suspected to be proceeds from the illegal liquor trade and electoral operations. The individual seen in the video has been identified as Venkatesh Naidu, a close aide of YSRCP leader and former MLA Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy. Naidu, who is named as Accused No. 34 in the liquor scam case, was arrested recently and is currently in judicial custody. The SIT extracted the video footage from his mobile phone using advanced digital forensics. The videos were originally deleted and encrypted, but SIT officials managed to recover them using specialised technological methods. The recovered video reportedly shows Venkatesh Naidu at a farmhouse in Hyderabad, counting wads of cash. SIT sources indicate that the money visible in the video is separate from the Rs 11 crore already seized in the case. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Top Cardiologists: Losing a Hanging Tummy Comes Down To This 1 Thing The Health Guide Learn More Undo Preliminary findings suggest that these funds were likely used during the recent general elections, although officials emphasised that further verification is underway. Investigators believe the new footage could prove to be a turning point in the probe, as it provides visual corroboration of cash handling that may be linked to the alleged kickbacks and illegal transactions uncovered during raids in Hyderabad and Andhra Pradesh. Officials said the SIT team was tracking digital footprints and communication records for weeks before recovering this data. The SIT also revealed that it recovered additional deleted video content from the mobile phones of other accused individuals. These include encrypted files that were believed to be wiped months ago. Forensic experts employed by the SIT used cutting-edge software tools to retrieve and decrypt the data. With the inclusion of this new evidence, officials believe the investigation now possesses a robust and technically irrefutable body of proof against multiple accused. The SIT submitted the videos as part of its documentation to the court, and further arrests or chargesheets are likely in the coming days. The liquor scam, which has drawn national attention, involves allegations of large-scale corruption in the procurement and distribution of alcohol in Andhra Pradesh. Several political functionaries, bureaucrats, and middlemen are under the scanner for their suspected roles in routing illegal funds through hawala networks and shell companies. The SIT's findings are expected to further tighten the noose around prominent figures in the case, with sources suggesting that the political leadership connected to the accused is now under heightened scrutiny. Online trading scam: A year after losing nearly Rs4 crore, Hyd-based techie lodges plaint

Hyderabad: A city-based software employee filed a complaint with the Telangana Cyber Crime Security Bureau (TGCSB) on Friday, stating that he lost over Rs 3.9 crore to cyber fraudsters posing as stock market investment advisors in April 2024. The victim did not approach the police with a complaint until Friday, as he thought it would be impossible to get back the money lost in cyber fraud . Finally, on the advice of well-wishers, he approached the police. On Friday, the 43-year-old victim from Manikonda stated in his complaint that he came across a stock market trading app in April 2024 through WhatsApp. Convinced by the assurances of the trading app representatives about high returns, he installed the app through a link provided by the fraudsters and began transferring money through the app. You Can Also Check: Hyderabad AQI | Weather in Hyderabad | Bank Holidays in Hyderabad | Public Holidays in Hyderabad Between April 12 and 23, 2024, he had transferred Rs 2 crore to various bank accounts provided by the fraudsters. "I grew suspicious on April 24 last year as they were not letting me withdraw any funds. During this time, they credited Rs 87 lakh to my mother's bank account, which I provided, and regained my trust. Reassured, I kept investing," the victim said. Between April and June 2024, the complainant had transferred Rs 4.79 crore and received only Rs 87 lakh into his mother's account. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Is this legal? During the same period, the Gujarat Cyber Crime Department froze the account of his mother, which had received Rs 87 lakh from the fraudsters in relation to a cybercrime case registered in their jurisdiction. "My 65-year-old mother has nothing to do with this case, yet her account was blocked. Please identify the fraudsters and unfreeze the bank account," the victim requested TGCSB in his complaint. Taking cognisance, the TGCSB (Headquarters) police station registered a case under Section 66-D of the IT Act and Sections 318(4) (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property), 319(2) (cheating by personation) and 338 (Forgery of valuable security, will, etc) of the BNS.
