Anthony Elanga labels Newcastle team-mate Alexander Isak as one of world's best

The 23-year-old winger completed his move to Tyneside last Friday and is united with fellow Sweden international Isak, who has been at the heart of transfer speculation this summer.
Liverpool were one of those said to be interested in securing the striker's services, but it is understood Newcastle value him at around £150million in a bid to fend off potential suitors.
Although Isak has been surrounded by intense speculation, newcomer Elanga has so far enjoyed working with his international colleague.
'A player of Alex's stature there's always going to be noise around him,' Elanga said.
'For me, he's one of the best players in the world, one of the best attackers in the world. I've played with him at international level so I can say so.
'There's always going to be noise, but at the end of the day he's a Newcastle player right now. I'm just trying to focus on what he's doing in training, showing his qualities and speaking to him every day.
'Whenever I speak to Alex it's always about good things – how my family is, how his family is and that's the first thing he asked me – how my family is – because he sees them all the time when he comes with the national team.
'I always try and focus on the present and the now. Alex being the player he is, one of the best attackers in the world, I think there's always going to be noise around him, but he's the type of player who is always staying focused.

'What he's shown in training is second to none. I'm looking forward to continuing training with him.
'Not just him, but Anthony Gordon who I'm also close with. He's helped me a lot settling in – he came from a different city as well. It's been amazing so far.'
Elanga arrives for a reported fee that could eventually amount to £55million and has been thrown straight into action, joining this week's training camp in Austria ahead of pre-season starting on Saturday with a clash against Celtic.
Newcastle are aiming to build on last year's stellar campaign which saw them secure their first major domestic silverware in 70 years by winning the Carabao Cup in March, as well as securing a Champions League spot.
Elanga is ready to make his impact, suggesting 'anything is possible' this season.
Asked how far Newcastle are from challenging for a Premier League title, he replied: 'We just take it game by game, focusing on each day that comes to you, wanting to improve, wanting to learn, wanting to take in information that the gaffer says. Anything is possible.
'The players we have, the coaching staff and adding Martin (Mark) from Midtjylland as set-piece coach. Those little one per cents are only going to make us improve even more.
'We're really on the right track. Having been involved in the sessions this week, I can really sense that feeling of we really want to grab something and win something this year.
'We take it game by game, focus on every session. Anything is possible really.'

Thomas Frank refuses to put timeline on Tottenham's Premier League title quest

Thomas Frank has no issue with Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy calling on the club to win the Premier League, but is not ready to set a deadline on when he will achieve the improbable dream. Spurs claimed Europa League success in May to end a 17-year wait for silverware, but Levy ruthlessly dismissed Ange Postecoglou after a difficult domestic campaign where the club finished one place above the relegation zone. Advertisement Despite Tottenham's Premier League struggles after an injury-ravaged season, Levy made the bold claim last month that they 'need' to win the title. Frank said: 'I share his ambitions for the club. A club of this size should have that ambition. 'How far away we are is probably very difficult to say, but we should throw it forward and go for it. 'No doubt that needs to be the aim for the future. What are to odds for us winning the PL this season? Advertisement 'I'm not allowed to gamble either, so I think we're probably not the favourites. Probably three teams at least ahead of us but we will do what we can to build a strong and competitive team.' Brave. Aggressive. Attack. Thomas lays down his principles 👊 — Tottenham Hotspur (@SpursOfficial) July 18, 2025 During a busy first press conference as Spurs boss, Frank regularly stated his desire to improve the robustness of the squad to ensure they can handle four competitions. There were also plenty of questions about the future of key duo Son Heung-min and Cristian Romero. Son achieved his own goal of winning silverware at Tottenham in May and there has been a suggestion if he wanted to leave the club would not stand in his way. Advertisement But Frank, who refused to confirm if Son would remain captain, insisted: 'It's always tricky situations like that. Speculation has been rife surrounding captain Son Heung-min's future (John Walton/PA) 'If a player has been at a club a long time, then there will always be a decision for the club to take of course. 'And of course, the head coach and the guys who are in charge and this case will be with Daniel and Johan (Lange), because there is something in it if someone wants to leave at a certain stage, then there can be something there, but the club will always decide in the end.' Postecoglou's first summer at Spurs was overshadowed by Bayern Munich's protracted pursuit of Harry Kane, which eventually ended a day before the start of the season. Advertisement Frank would not want a repeat, but added: 'First and foremost, he's (Son) here now. I'm not worried too much about it.'

Russell Martin issues Thelo Aasgaard Rangers injury update as attacking trio not ready to start Champions League crunch

The Gers kick-off their competitive season against Panathinaikos on Tuesday night Russell Martin has revealed that Rangers summer signing Thelo Aasgaard is "touch and go" for Tuesday's huge Champions League qualifier clash against Panathinaikos. ‌ The Light Blues welcome the Greek giants to Ibrox for the first leg of their second round showdown in three days time before playing the return fixture in Athens eight days later. ‌ Norway international Aasgaard has been snapped up by Martin for £5million from Luton Town but has been a doubt for Tuesday's game after suffering an injury in a behind-closed doors friendly against Dunfermline earlier this week. ‌ And Martin admits it will go right up to the wire if the midfielder can get himself fit in time for Tuesday's crunch tie. Speaking to Rangers TV, he said: "It's disappointing for him and for us. He's been everything we thought we were getting and more. "Unfortunately it's a different level of intensity and has been demanding in pre-season so he has picked up a little something. He is going to be touch and go but if not we are really hopeful he will be ready and raring to go for the second one." ‌ Gers boss has also confirmed that £2.2m signing Djeidi Gassama will have to make do with a place on the bench for the first leg because of his lack of sharpness. "He is a little bit behind in terms of fitness", he added. "His pre-season has been a bit disrupted because he was going to be on the move so not too much too soon. ‌ "He is not ready to start the game but he is totally different to anything we have got. He is unpredictable, a fantastic one-on-one specialist and he has real individual talent. "He has a lot of work to do physically and to get use to the way we work but his willingness to do that has been really brilliant. "He will be in the squad and will definitely be ready to go for the second game but for the first game we might have to manage his minutes." ‌ Forward duo Hamza Igamane and Cyriel Dessers have both been included in the Champions League squad to face Panathinaikos despite having not taken part in any of the pre-season games so far. And while the strikers have impressed Martin in training the Ibrox boss says they also still have work to do before they can return to action. He stated: "They have both been really good. They are both a little bit behind the group in terms of fitness but are working incredibly hard to get there, which is all you can ask. ‌ "I've enjoyed having them on the training pitch properly for a week now. They are both working hard to get into shape to help us. "We need talent and goals at the top end of the pitch and they both definitely bring that. "We are going to try and work out ways to get them two guys to play together at times, it might be one of them or it might be both. "It's up to us to work out what they are comfortable doing but there have been moments in training from both where you think 'okay they can help the team'. I am looking forward to having them fully fit and firing very soon."
