Source: USMNT, PSV striker Ricardo Pepi could miss two months with knee injury
It was the U.S. men's national team forward's 18th strike this season and his second in the world's most prestigious club competition, and the clearest proof yet that the 21-year-old Texan has earned the right to be the undisputed starting forward for both the USMNT and Dutch champs PSV Eindhoven.
Those plans will have to wait. Pepi suffered a knee injury in the second half of PSV's 3-2 victory over the Reds that could sideline him for two months, a source with knowledge of the situation confirmed to FOX Sports on Thursday following multiple media reports in the Netherlands.
The severity of the ailment is still being assessed, the source added. But if the initial timeline is accurate, it would rule Pepi out of the U.S.'s Concacaf Nations League semifinal against Panama on March 20 and a potential final against historic rival Mexico in Los Angeles three days later. That would be a significant loss for Mauricio Pochettino's squad, which is also expected to be without fellow striker Folarin Balogun until April.
Balogun, the USMNT's first choice center forward under previous USMNT coach Gregg Berhalter, has yet to appear under Pochettino after undergoing shoulder surgery last fall. Pepi grabbed the role with aplomb in Balogun's absence, scoring in Pochettino's debut win in October and in both legs of November's Nations League quarterfinal win over Jamaica.
England-based pair Josh Sargent and Haji Wright are probably the leading candidates to replace Pepi in March, though both recently returned from their own long-term injury layoffs. MLS strikers Patrick Agyemang and Brandon Vazquez are among the other options for Pochettino.
At PSV, Pepi has mostly been used as a substitute since joining the 25-time Dutch champs at the beginning of 2023-24, with former Barcelona forward and Netherlands international Luuk de Jong entrenched as manager Peter Bosz' first choice. Yet despite the limited playing time, Pepi has outscored De Jong this season and is second in the Eredivisie's Golden Boot race, with 11 goals in just 681 minutes played.
Bosz rewarded that consistent production on Wednesday by giving Pepi his first Champions League start of the season. He was rewarded handsomely. In addition to his game-winning goal just before halftime, Pepi also set up the hosts' opener against Liverpool with a clever assist.
Pepi will also miss PSV's two-leg Champions League playoff series next month against either Eredivisie rivals Feyenoord or Italian titans Juventus. He could return for the tournament quarterfinals in April if PSV gets that far without him. The club, which won its only European title in 1988, was eliminated in the round of 16 last year.

Report – Ajax & Udinese Join The Race For €7M Rated Inter Milan Striker
Ajax and Udinese are ready to join the race to sign Inter Milan striker Sebastiano Esposito this summer. This according to SportItalia transfer market expert Alfredo Pedulla, via FCInter1908. The Italy Under-21 striker had spent last season on loan with Empoli. However, that loan deal came to an end, and the Tuscans did not sign him on a permanent basis. Therefore, Sebastianio Esposito travelled with the Inter squad to the United States for the Club World Cup. He appeared in all four of their matches at the tournament, starting two. Ajax & Udinese Join The Race For Sebastiano Esposito EMPOLI, ITALY – NOVEMBER 25: Sebastiano Esposito of Empoli FC greets the fans after during the Serie A match between Empoli and Udinese at Stadio Carlo Castellani on November 25, 2024 in Empoli, Italy. (Photo by) It looks like virtually a foregone conclusion that Sebastiano Esposito will leave Inter this summer, however. However, what has been a mystery is where the Italy Under-21 international will go. Quite a few clubs have shown an interest in Esposito's signature. Fiorentina were sufficiently impressed by the 23-year-old's performances for derby rivals Empoli that they've been in talks with Inter. Meanwhile, Cagliari have rivalled Fiorentina for Esposito's signature. And Alfredo Pedulla notes that Parma remain alive to the situation, also considering Inter's interest in Giovanni Leoni. Nevertheless, even more clubs are joining the race according to Pedulla. Dutch giants Ajax have come forward with an interest, the SportItalia transfer expert reports. Meanwhile, from within Serie A, Udinese have joined the growing list of clubs targeting Esposito.

Newcastle consider Sesko amid Isak uncertainty
Newcastle are exploring a move for RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko in case Alexander Isak departs this summer. Isak has not travelled with the Magpies for their pre-season tour of Asia as he considers his future at the club amid interest from Liverpool. Sesko was heavily linked with Arsenal until the Gunners shifted their focus to Sporting striker Viktor Gyokeres. Liverpool, Manchester United and Chelsea were also keeping tabs on the Slovenia international earlier in the window. Newcastle will only attempt to sign the 22-year-old, who scored 13 goals in 33 Bundesliga appearances last season, if Isak leaves. Newcastle said Isak, 25, didn't travel to Singapore with the rest of the squad due to a "minor thigh injury". Team-mate Dan Burn told Sky Sports that the departure of any player at this stage of the window would "upset a tight-knit group", while captain Bruno Guimaraes said Newcastle "want to keep our best players". "He is a top striker, his [record over the] last three seasons speaks by itself, he's a top player," Guimaraes said. "But as far as I know he just stayed there because of his injury, his treatment with the club." Isak scored 27 goals in 42 appearances across all competitions for Newcastle last season and his exit would leave the north east outfit severely lacking options in the final third. Newcastle stutter in striker pursuit Callum Wilson left St James' Park on a free earlier this month and 21-year-old Will Osula - who registered twice in 19 outings last term - is the only other senior striker available to Eddie Howe. Newcastle are preparing to fight on multiple fronts in 2025-26 after securing a return to the Champions League, but have been slow in strengthening their squad during the off-season. They have fallen short in their pursuit of reinforcements with targets Joao Pedro and Liam Delap joining Chelsea, while Hugo Ekitike preferred a move to Liverpool. Forward Anthony Elanga is the only new addition to Howe's ranks after completing a £55m switch from Nottingham Forest. A move for Yoane Wissa remains a top priority for Newcastle even if Isak stays put and the DR Congo forward appears open after leaving Brentford's pre-season base in Portugal this week. Malacia could leave Manchester United for Saudi Arabia
According to Voetbal International's Joost Blaauwhof, Tyrell Malacia could leave Manchester United for Saudi Arabia. The former Feyenoord and PSV left-back is considering a concrete offer from the Pro League, according to well-informed sources. Malacia spent the past six months on loan at PSV. In Eindhoven, the wing-back was intermittently part of the team that won the national championship. Despite meagre individual accolades that season, the Rotterdam native still holds a strong international profile. Several European clubs have reportedly already inquired about Malacia's status, which manager Rúben Amorim has omitted from the squad. However, on Friday, the first concrete offer came in. And it came from Saudi Arabia. It's still unclear which club wants to take on Malacia. The player is considering the offer and is in talks with the Saudi club. If Malacia accepts, a multi-million euro offer will immediately follow. Manchester United have the left-back under contract until the summer of 2026. GBeNeFN | Max Bradfield
