The homicide case against Diego Maradona's medical team was declared a mistrial, their lawyers said on Thursday.
The 2020 death of the football star who led the Argentine team to World Cup victory from heart failure while he was recovering from surgery shook the nation.
Seven members of his medical team were charged with negligent homicide in a trial that began on 11 March.
The defendants have denied the charges of "simple homicide with eventual intent" in Maradona's treatment. They were facing prison sentences of between eight and 25 years.
The date for the new trial was not initially announced and new judges were not nominated.
The Thursday decision came after one of three judges in the case, Judge Julieta Makintach, resigned on Tuesday in the face of allegations of an ethical breach.
Video surfaced showing her apparently being interviewed by a camera crew as part of a documentary in the corridors of the Buenos Aires courthouse and in her office, which breached judicial rules.
"This is all a great embarrassment," defence attorney Miguel Angel Pierri told media outside the courthouse.

Te Pairi died following a fight on Alexandra St in Hamilton just after midnight on 20 July. Photo: RNZ / Victor Waters Police are appealing to the public for help after a 20-year-old was killed following an altercation between two groups in Hamilton. Emergency services were called to the brawl on Alexandra Street shortly before midnight on 20 July. Tyreece Te Pairi was transported to hospital, where he sadly died a short time later. Police would like to hear from anyone who attended a hip hop event at Cloud 9 Bar on Hood St, and has photos or video of the event. "Police would also like to speak to anyone who may have seen the pictured vehicles in the Hamilton CBD area between 10pm on 19 July and 12.30am on 20 July," Detective Senior Sergeant Kristine Clarke said. They are a 2024 blue Mitsubishi Outlander, a 2005 grey Nissan Teana and a 2004 gold Toyota Prius, Clarke said. "It is believed the vehicles travelled to the Cloud 9 Bar event and the occupants may have information that could greatly help our investigation." Last week, Te Pairi's family shared a statement through police asking for privacy to grieve. The statement said Te Pairi had been laid to rest in his tūrangawaewae, Tolaga Bay. "Though his body rests, our grief does not. The ache of his absence is something words cannot carry. "Tyreece was deeply loved, and the pain of losing him is just as deep. His future held so much promise - he was taken from us far too soon." His death had left a profound on his partner, whānau and all those who knew him, the statement said. An 18-year-old man was before the courts in relation to Te Pairi's death. The public are asked to use police's 105 service, quoting file number 250720/2896, if they can provide any help. Watch: Simon Parker in, more new names called up for All Blacks Rugby Championship squad
Simon Parker is the big inclusion in the All Blacks' Rugby Championship squad, with the 120kg loose forward set to make his test debut in the coming campaign. Parker has been rewarded for an excellent Super Rugby Pacific season, with an untimely injury presumably delaying his call up till after the series win over France. Parker's ascension is in line with his career path, he was a member of the New Zealand Secondary Schools squad before being selected to the New Zealand Under 20 team in 2019. A Chiefs representative since 2020, he has represented Waikato and most recently the Northland Taniwha in the Bunnings NPC and was a member of the All Blacks XV in 2024. Crusaders halfback Kyle Preston is in the frame for selection too, named as injury cover alongside Hurricanes prop Tevita Mafileo and Chiefs wing Leroy Carter. Experienced All Blacks Josh Lord, George Bower and Finlay Christie round out the injury cover selections. Scott Robertson speaks to media on Monday about his All Blacks squad for the Rugby Championship. "While we are clearly disappointed for our men who are currently recovering from injuries, that has also created opportunities for a number of deserving players…these players have earned the opportunity through consistent performance, and we know that they will take this chance. We are excited about what they will bring to the squad." Scott Robertson said injury recovery has created opportunities for a number of deserving players.
