How Retailers Are Using AI And Emotion To Build Loyalty In 2025
Artificial Intelligence
Customer loyalty isn't something retailers can take for granted in today's crowded marketplace. It's something they have to earn and re-earn through ongoing, meaningful engagement. And changing consumer behavior is only adding to the complexity. Shoppers today no longer think solely in terms of 'online' or 'in-store.' According to VML's Future Shopper 2024 report, 61% of shoppers globally want seamless communications across sales channels, with their journey documented and data following them the whole time – up five percent from just one year prior. They expect what is often called a 'phygital' experience: a seamless journey that spans digital and physical channels, where retailers can adjust to customer preferences, life events, and life stages in real time.
To meet these rising expectations, retailers are reimagining loyalty as not a points system or occasional reward, but an ongoing relationship. A recent report from Braze, the 2025 Global Customer Engagement Review (CER), explores the ways leading brands are stepping up to meet the moment by rethinking how they engage and retain their audiences. According to the report, leading retailers break away from a one-size-fits-all approach by blending together AI-powered personalization, emotional resonance, and experimentation. These retailers are treating loyalty not as a fixed outcome, but as a continuous conversation – one that is shaped at every touch point, treating it both as an art and a science.
AI is powering the next generation of retail engagement
It's no secret that AI is now a key driving force behind the next generation of retail experiences. Retailers already use it to analyze sentiment, predict behavior, and personalize at scale, with leading brands being 39% more likely to use AI to adjust messages based on real-time interactions. As AI becomes more embedded in workflows, it's not just about automating tasks, but also unlocking new levels of impact. Braze Chief Product Officer, Kevin Wang, shared 'the real magic of AI is in helping marketers operate with greater efficiency and creativity. It allows teams to deliver personalized experiences in the moment faster and more seamlessly than ever before, while driving meaningful business results.'
But with great power comes greater responsibility. As AI and data driven strategies advance, so does the need for transparent, consent driven data practices. According to a recent Prosper Insights & Analytics survey, 58.5% of consumers are either extremely or very concerned about AI using their data, signaling a growing public unease that can't be brushed aside. In response, retailers are increasingly cautious about how customer data is used and shared.
Prosper - How Concerned are You About Privacy Being Violated From AI Using Your Data
More notably, Braze's 2025 Retail CER shows that internal data sharing now outweighs legal or regulatory worries among surveyed marketing executives, suggesting that today's retailers are motivated not just by compliance, but by a deeper commitment to doing right by their customers. The future of AI-powered retail engagement depends not only on smarter technology, but also on how thoughtfully it's applied, in addition to how well it sustains consumer trust. As marketers unlock new levels of capability, the next challenge is ensuring those interactions feel authentic, and emotionally resonant.
Leaning on technology to drive emotional connection
Beyond efficiency and seamless journeys, retailers that are doing this well today are leaning into technology to listen to their customers' digital body language, delivering messages that resonate in the moment and create emotional connections, not just transactions. Braze data found that brands that are emotionally connecting with their customers are the ones who are more likely to exceed their revenue goals. Moreover, top leaders show a strong willingness to course-correct when messaging misses the mark.
According to Prosper Insights & Analytics, 73.3% of shoppers prefer to speak with a live person while making online purchases. This highlights that technology should enhance, not replace, the human element of engagement.
Prosper - Prefer To Communicate With Live Person or AI Chat Program for Online Shopping
Technology allows brands to reach customers one-on-one, but without great content, those connections fall flat. If the endgame is enduring relationships with customers, a focus on customer retention and the relative cost of customer acquisition makes perfect sense. But what does that mean in practice? It means using customer data more efficiently, leaning on technology to enhance, not replace human connection, and embracing a culture of experimentation to continuously improve. In fact, Braze data shows that 93% of retailers rely on technology to add emotional resonance to their messaging, whether through personalized channel preferences, milestone triggered messages, or community based campaigns.
A strong example of this can be seen when looking at e.l.f. Cosmetics, a brand under e.l.f. Beauty. The company partnered with Braze and Stitch to revamp its digital engagement strategy and loyalty program. By expanding into channels like SMS and push notifications, the company saw a 125% increase in monthly mobile app usage (over six months) and stronger customer connections. This demonstrates how creative, cross-channel messaging can drive both emotional resonance and measurable results.
Culture of experimentation separates leaders from the less agile
Leading retailers share a common trait: they work collaboratively and prioritize frequent experimentation. There is no doubt that the most successful teams are agile, cross-functional, and committed to refining engagement strategies to uncover valuable customer insights. These efforts go beyond marketing alone. 'The most forward-thinking retailers treat experimentation as a team sport. When marketing, data, and engineering come together around a shared goal, that's when real innovation and customer understanding happens,' shared Wang.
Top brands are bringing in analytics, engineering, and other teams to build a more robust and dynamic understanding of their customers. Still, there's room for growth. While many retailers have embraced experimentation, too few are breaking down internal barriers. This lack of shared ownership creates gaps that could be closed through stronger communication and alignment. Ultimately, retailers that foster a culture of testing and collaboration are far better positioned to meet changing customer expectations and lead with greater agility.
Winning Loyalty is an Ongoing Conversation
Loyalty isn't a one-and-done achievement; it's a continuous dialogue between brands and their customers. To win loyalty, retailers must listen closely and evolve with each interaction. AI and emotional resonance give retailers the tools to do this at scale, but it's the commitment to transparency, experimentation and human connection that sets leaders apart. The retailers who will thrive in 2025 and beyond will be those who lean into their customers' digital body language, and treat engagement as a relationship to be nurtured, not a transaction to be optimized.

AM Best Assigns Performance Assessment to Dynamic Reinsurance LLC
OLDWICK, N.J., June 30, 2025--(BUSINESS WIRE)--AM Best has assigned a Performance Assessment of PA-2 (Excellent) to Dynamic Reinsurance LLC (Dynamic Re) (Miami, Florida). The outlook assigned to the Performance Assessment (assessment) is stable. The assessment reflects Dynamic Re's strong underwriting capabilities, excellent governance and internal controls, strong financial condition, excellent organizational talent and strong depth and breadth of relationships. Dynamic Re operates as an underwriting agency providing comprehensive reinsurance solutions across multiple lines of business, including property, casualty, financial lines, marine cargo and engineering risks, primarily in Latin America, Europe and the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. The company's underwriting capability is supported by structured contractual arrangements with highly rated reinsurance partners, underpinned by the effective use of advanced analytics and integrated third-party administrator (TPA) platforms. However, the underwriting performance has exhibited volatility driven by catastrophe exposures, which is considered as a limiting factor. AM Best considers Dynamic Re's governance and internal controls to be excellent given strong internal controls and clearly structured commission arrangements with carrier partners and TPAs. The company implements comprehensive operational policies, including formal business continuity and disaster recovery frameworks, ensuring alignment of interests among stakeholders and strong risk mitigation capabilities. Dynamic Re's financial condition is assessed as strong, supported by a track record of consistent profitability since inception, primarily driven by stable base and profit commission structures. While recent strategic growth initiatives have resulted in an imbalance between expense and revenue growth, these investments are intended to support longer-term scalability and operational maturity. AM Best's assessment of Dynamic Re's organizational talent is assessed as excellent, marked by significant industry experience across executive leadership and key underwriting personnel. Dynamic Re's organizational structure reflects a well-defined delegation of roles across underwriting, risk, claims and actuarial functions, which has facilitated controlled expansion while maintaining operational discipline across geographies and business lines. This structure is further supported by shared services provided by Blue Capital (Coral Ventures Group), enhancing centralized oversight in finance, legal, human resources and marketing. Dynamic Re's depth and breadth of relationships is considered strong, supported by established partnerships with reputable capacity providers across multiple jurisdictions. The company has demonstrated the ability to cultivate and sustain relationships with highly rated reinsurers and regional distribution networks, particularly in Latin America. While the business is well-diversified within that region, its current concentration results in a limited geographic footprint at this stage of development. This press release relates to Performance Assessments that have been published on AM Best's website. It's Not Just Tokens: InfoFi Turns Social Posts Into Financial Assets
Mockup image for businesswoman using smartphone for financial planning and investment. Smartphone ... More with Bitcoin, Blockchain, cryptocurrency concept. One of the newest sectors in web3, Information Finance (InfoFi) is emerging as a popular tool helping blockchain-based projects to build, grow, and retain their communities through advanced user analytics and incentivization programs. It is doing so by allowing users to monetize their interactions with a project, with social media posts in particular becoming highly valuable assets. Among engaged community members, a tweet or Instagram post about a crypto project can trigger an inflow of new users, and this is being recognized and rewarded. While projects have been aware of the power of influential users for some time, they have previously been unable to hone in on those truly bringing value. Industry 'influencers' with high follower numbers have long earned tokens and other rewards for promoting a project, but little information was formerly available on how that dollar spent converted into new business. This new generation of community rewards platforms offers crypto projects analytical tools that allow them to examine how a user's social media interactions impact their businesses, meaning that the true value of every tweet and post can, finally, be quantified. This is a real game changer, both for projects and for users. Projects can now really understand the power of particular social media posts, which, much like the best quality user datasets, have become highly sought-after commodities. Social Engagement Into Financial Enrichment Indeed, social media is now deeply embedded into the investment landscape. According to a 2022 study by Technology in Society, an astonishing 80% of institutional investors use social media as part of their day-to-day research and decision making. More significantly, approximately 30% of them said that information they gathered on social media has influenced an investment recommendation or decision. Meanwhile, a 2019 study by Willis Owen found that 34% of retail investors made at least one change to their portfolios as a result of social media posts. As we saw during the Play-to-Earn phenomenon enjoyed by users of web3 gaming platforms like Axie Infinity in 2021 and 2022, InfoFi is now opening up a new revenue stream to a new generation of investors that was unavailable to previous generations. InfoFi giving financial power to truly knowledgeable and engaged social media users who are driving collective investment decisions that are enriching communities. In short, the sector is and opening up income opportunities for those that actually put in the hard work. Tweets That Drive Capital Efficiency On the project side, InfoFi's ability to gauge the effectiveness of social media posts allows for truly targeted reward strategies that allow start-ups to grow their communities in a cost-effective and sustainable way. Helicopter approaches like airdrops and other mass-user rewards initiatives are still highly effective tools that can get a community off-the-ground quickly; however, the analytics afforded by InfoFi platforms help projects to allocate further reward initiatives more strategically. Once a project has honed in on a high-impact social media user, for example, it can offer them unique opportunities to earn greater rewards for completing tasks specific to them. This might be posting specific content or registering a certain number of reshares on a post, with a specific reward given once that goal is achieved. This sort of strategy makes for meaningful, long-term engagement with users that can drive predictable user acquisition on which more informed company growth plans can be built. Beyond Social: Where Actions Speak Loudest Being able to truly quantify the value of a social media post and reward a user accordingly is a flash of light in the dark for community reward initiatives. Again, while broad approaches will always have a place, particularly with very early-stage start-ups, InfoFi's more nuanced analytical tools take projects to that next stage of growth. However, some InfoFi projects are going beyond this still. Social media posts are a powerful tool when it comes to building a community; however, they are by no means the only metric. Projects can now also measure so-called on-chain metrics, like how a user's activity relates to total value locked (aka assets under management), transaction volumes, counts, and even fees spent. Beyond the footfall generated by a social media post, these on-chain metrics allow a project to see where the money is going and then, beyond that, how much money is coming in from which type of engagement, and from where. This microscopic level of user insight has myriad applications for tailoring demographically driven growth strategies in a way that was simply not possible before. Real Users, Real Rewards, Real Returns In our new, internet-first world of influencers and high-impact users, social media posts have become a new kind of currency, especially in web3. And now, with the new tools afforded by the InfoFi sector, a new wave of active users is earning on their tweets and posts. Users who have followed and engaged with a project from the start now have a fair shot at turning their social capital into financial capital, while projects can maximize the reach and efficiency of every dollar spent on incentivizing these users. Loyalty. Influence. Activity. Insights. These are the actions that InfoFi is designed to measure and monetize, and - in some cases - this is going beyond social media activity and following the money itself.
