Midak on a short break following Derby exertions
Trained by Francis-Henri Graffard, the Aga Khan Studs-owned three-year-old created a taking impression when going unbeaten in his first three starts, earning an ambitious shot at the Derby at Epsom last month.
A poignant runner on the Downs in a race named in honour of the late Aga Khan IV, he was sent off at 9-1 before weakening in the closing stages and connections are now minded to miss next weekend's Grand Prix de Paris to provide more time to recover from his Classic exertions.
'Physically he took his race fine at Epsom, but mentally he was quite fragile afterwards and it went to his head slightly,' explained Nemone Routh, racing manager for the Aga Khan Studs in France.
'There was thought in Francis' head that he could run in the Grand Prix de Paris after Epsom but we just felt mentally he wasn't going to be up to doing that on the back of the Derby. We've just had to back off him a bit as he's a very big horse.
'It was quite a big ask of him to go to the Derby after only three starts and he took it quite well on the day but afterwards it has taken its toll on him a little bit.'
Both George Scott and Charlie Appleby have mooted the Group Two Prix Guillaume d'Ornano on August 16 for Bay City Roller and 2000 Guineas hero Ruling Court respectively and Midak could form a strong home defence in a race won last year by William Haggas' Economics.
ParisLongchamp's Prix du Prince d'Orange on September 14 – won last year by John and Thady Gosden's Ombudsman – is another possibility, as the Aga Khan team look to a drop to 10 furlongs after trying a mile and a half at Epsom.
'There's the Prix Guillaume d'Ornano for him at Deauville or if he needs a little bit more time there's a couple of options in September like the Prix du Prince d'Orange, but the horse will guide us,' continued Routh.
'I don't think we would go straight back to a mile and a half with him. In the Derby he travelled very well and was in the right position looking like he was going to run a huge race and then didn't really quicken and the ground was probably a bit slow for him that day.
'Did he really get home, we're not quite sure, so I think we'll stick to a mile and a quarter race in France when the horse is ready.'

Liverpool line up another new transfer to dismay Gary Neville and David Beckham
Liverpool are eyeing up Salford City teenager Will Wright, who has been hugely impressive at the League Two outfit, with David Beckham and Gary Neville potentially losing a future star Liverpool are looking to land the signing of Salford City teenager Will Wright, who has been hugely impressive after enjoying a swift rise at Moor Lane. The League Two outfit look to have unearthed a gem after seeing him excel with the club's youth ranks, which eventually saw him making four appearances for the first-term last season, one coming in the FA Cup loss at Manchester City. Salford are now co-owned by Gary Neville and David Beckham but the duo are set to lose their young star. Wright's potential departure will land Salford a six-figure sum, reports TalkSport, with a number of Premier League clubs also keeping tabs on the 17-year-old. Arsenal, Brentford, Leicester City and Burnley have monitored the player. Wright is now going into the second year of his scholarship with Salford after being spotted playing for local sides Euxton Villa and Fylde only two years ago, but he could be about to jump up the football league pyramid to join one of England's giants He won't go straight into the first-team at Anfield given their wealth of attacking talent, but the Reds would still be able to land a player who could go on to be a future success story. Salford have been stuck in the fourth tier since their promotion from the National League in 2019. Despite the fortunes invested by the Class of 92 they have only made the play-offs once with a number of managers coming and going during that period. The Ammies have previously seen some of their leading lights move on to bigger and better things. They signed Brandon Thomas-Asante when he was without a club and the frontman went on to sign for West Brom and now finds himself at Coventry. Vaclav Hladky left for Ipswich and is now on Burnley's books. As Wright continues to feature in pre-season for Salford he said: "For all of us it is a fantastic opportunity, not even playing games, but just to be training with them. Gaining the experience and taking things back to the academy and hopefully bring more people through." Liverpool meanwhile could take their summer spending beyond the £300million mark as they weigh up breaking the British-transfer record to land Alexander Isak from Newcastle. Already Arne Slot has signed Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong and Milos Kerkez. Join our new WhatsApp community and receive your daily dose of Mirror Football content. Arsenal fans respond to Crystal Palace's Eberechi Eze message
You certainly can't accuse Arsenal of being inactive in the window this summer, but whether the new signings and potential new recruits will be enough to power the Gunners to the title remains to be seen. The naysayers will point to Liverpool's already impressive summer, which has seen Arne Slot add two top class full-backs and smash the British transfer record to snare Florian Wirtz. Building from a position of strength, the best are getting even better, even without the arrival of a new centre forward, an issue that looks likely to be addressed imminently. Arsenal, however, can only look after themselves and while it might have been tempting to enter the race to sign Alexander Isak, plugging the gaping holes in their squad, exposed by last season's injury crisis, represents a far smarter use of the considerable funds that have again been made available to Mikel Arteta. Of the new additions, Martin Zubimendi's is perhaps the most intriguing. Will the addition of a genuine deep-lying playmaker, one in the prime of his career, prompt a more expansive style of play? If the Spaniard's addition shifts Arsenal back towards a side somewhere between the buccaneering nearly-men of two years ago and the overcautious, safety first unit that lost their way last term then there is no reason to suggest they cannot last the distance. The rest of the signings represent gambles, while even Eberechi Eze and Rodrygo, although level raisers, would come with no guarantees given it is not clear where the Crystal Palace playmaker would fit in, while there have been plenty of Real Madrid cast offs who have failed to shine in the Premier League. That said, this is a top class Arsenal side whose consistency over the last three years is often overlooked as a consequence of their lack of silverware. The new signings may only need to contribute the extra 10% required to get the Gunners over the line given the quality that Arteta already has at his disposal. If you're looking for a positive omen, cast your minds back to the summer of 2001 when Arsenal brought in Richard Wright, Francis Jeffers, Giovanni van Bronckhorst and Sol Campbell at significant cost, while Edu was effectively a new signing given he hardly played following his arrival in January. Of that group, only Campbell could have been considered a genuine game changer, but that group all made valuable contributions across a campaign which saw Arsenal end a run of three second place finishes to complete a Premier League and FA Cup double under Arsene Wenger. Liverpool's incredible XI next season with £125m Alexander Isak and more new signings
Liverpool have already spent nearly £200million on new signings this summer but the potential arrivals of Alexander Isak and Marc Guehi could nearly double that amount What a difference a year makes. Liverpool barely got the chequebook out during Arne Slot's first summer - now they can't seem to close it. You'd forgive the Reds for tightening the pursue strings after splurging £185million on three new signings in June. Florian Wirtz broke the British transfer record while Jeremie Frimpong and Milos Kerkez didn't go cheap either. But Liverpool are showing no signs of cutting back, with two Premier League stars on their radar. Starting up top, Slot's side are ramping up their pursuit of Alexander Isak. An approach was made this week, with the Swedish striker valued at an eye-watering £125m. Newcastle insist that Isak, 25, isn't for sale but it could be the beginning of a saga if Liverpool dangle the carrot. At the back, Marc Guehi is a target. Mirror Football recently reported that the Premier League champions are closing in on the England international, whose contract with Crystal Palace expires next summer. Guehi wouldn't come cheap, with the 25-year-old due to lead Palace into Europe after captaining them to a memorable FA Cup win. Part of the reasoning behind Liverpool's interest in Guehi is the fact Ibrahima Konate finds himself in a similar situation at Anfield. The Reds centre-back looks set to run down his contract amid reports that he could follow in Trent Alexander-Arnold's footsteps and join Real Madrid on a free transfer in 2026. Some fans have urged Liverpool to cash in on Konate - or even relegate him to the bench if Guehi signs. The former Chelsea prospect would slot into an already new-look defence, with Frimpong and Kerkez set to be the full-backs and Virgil van Dijk the sole remaining figure from last season. They'd still have the reliable Alisson Becker behind them in goal, with Giorgi Mamardashvili having been signed with a view to becoming his long-term successor. Continuing with Slot's trusted 4-2-3-1 formation, Ryan Gravenberch and Alexis Mac Allister would remain as the double pivot at the base of midfield but it won't be Dominik Szoboszlai ahead of them if Wirtz is employed in his favourite position. Although the versatile German can play on the left wing or as a striker, Slot would likely get the best out of him in the No.10 role. Mo Salah is a non-discussion on the right flank while Cody Gakpo or Luis Diaz - the latter of whom reportedly wants to leave - would operate on the opposite wing. And through the middle, there's no doubt that Isak would lead the line. Negotiations for those yet-to-be-completed deals would, of course, take time and the Reds have less than a month until they open their Premier League campaign at home to Bournemouth on Friday, August 15. Liverpool's first competitive match is six days beforehand, facing Palace in Community Shield. As things stand, Guehi will be marshalling Palace's defence. Later next month, Slot and Co. make the trip to Newcastle, where they may well have to defend against Isak if they can't complete a record-breaking transfer deal before then.
