Bohemian Diamond to extend impressive record in WestSpeed Platinum Autumn Final at Pinjarra
This week's $1.85 TABtouch favourite was having just her ninth start when she parked behind the pace-makers two weeks ago before being eased into clear air by Brad Parnham rounding the home turn.
The daughter of Maschino soon accounted for her rivals and drew away over the final 200m to win by a resounding two-length margin over Royal Gap and Cheryl's Shout, who are both $14 this week.
Her previous two wins had both come over 1400m, meaning this week's 100m rise is sure to be suitable for the progressive four-year-old.
She leads Hammarmill ($7.50) in the market, who won his own heat on May 3 before running fourth to the betting principal a fortnight later.
Kelvinater ($8.50), a well beaten sixth and nearly 10 lengths behind Hammarmill in that contest, rebounded seven days later to score a stylish win over 1400m.
Major Mario ($9.50) was third behind Kelvinater in that event but raced a week after, placing seventh and six lengths behind Bohemian Diamond.
Why Me ($12) was ninth and seven lengths inferior to Bohemian Diamond at his latest appearance. He is only second-up and is yet to place at 1400m, with some of his best efforts coming at extended trips.
Valdarena ($12), a second runner in the race for Stephanie Bakranich to supplement Major Mario, took a different path to his stablemate by running a four-length fourth to Hammarmill in preparation for this race.
Like No Other ($19) will be an interesting runner should he take his position in the lineup. He was seventh and four lengths behind Camera Action in the Provincial Championship Final two weeks ago but also raced as recently as Wednesday, where he was eighth and three lengths behind Azena.
Storm Commander ($61) was 11th and 11 lengths afield of Bohemian Diamond, while Zac Luvs To Fly ($91) was three quarters of a length better off in 10th position.
+ Earlier in the day, richly talented colt September Born ($2.30f) will return as the top elect in the $80,000 Country Comfort Perth Plate (1200m) but has the addition of bar plates for the first time.
The maligned addition to any horse's gear is sure to deter some supporters of the colt who devastated his rivals with a recent Lark Hill trial win.
Sprinting powerfully, he surged down the outside that heat on May 19 with a sense of authority. However, he did look as though he had physical fitness to come from the outing and that is again likely to be the case on Saturday.
Pond Master ($4.20) couldn't match Elite Missile last week but was a thorough winner two weeks prior. He has returned in top touch for Takahide Ikenushi.
Wind And The Lion ($4.40) was removed from Wednesday's revised Pinjarra meeting to be preserved for this and comes in with logical claims after a stylish second to Celestial Storm upon resumption.
Earthstorm ($21 into $11) is the main market move after finishing fifth to Repossession first-up, beaten two lengths two weeks ago.
+ Exciting two-year-old Silent Diva ($2.20f) will make her second racetrack appearance in the opening race following a brilliant sit-sprint effort to win on debut.
Caught up in traffic in the home straight, the Alabama Express filly unleashed a withering turn of foot to gather her rivals up and win on May 17.
Credited for her constitution, readiness and soundness post-race by co-trainer Grant Williams, he indicated the youngster would persevere with her preparation, which continues this weekend.
Baby Pearl ($4.80), second at her only start in January behind Luana Miss, has attracted support from $6 in and did win an Ascot trial on May 12 leading up to this.
In Confidence ($8) got the job done on debut, winning by three quarters of a length at Pinjarra on May 14 and rounds out those at single-digit odds.
+ Richanco ($2.30f) and Celestial Storm ($3) are the only runners under double figures in the sixth race, with both impressing with wins at their latest starts.
Richanco has been guided by Brad Parnham to easy wins at his two starts this campaign and looks likely to handle the rise in grade, while Celestial Storm never really looked like losing when racing fresh on May 10.
+ Camera Action ($3.20f) makes her first appearance since capturing the $100,000 Provincial Championship Final at Belmont two weeks ago.
She has eased from $2.70, however, with support for the consistent Dug Another Hole ($6 into $4.80) and Speed Dream ($9.50 into $8.50).
+ Queensland's Eagle Farm circuit will host the Kingsford Smith Cup (1300m) and Queensland Derby (2400m), both at Group 1 level, this weekend.
Zippy sprinter Joliestar ($2.90f) has her first start in six weeks when starting the market principal in the Kingsford Smith and is to be ridden by James McDonald.
Following her Newmarket (1200m) win in March, the four-year-old was ninth but only two lengths from Briasa in the T J Smith (1200m) and runner-up to Jimmysstar in the All Aged Stakes (1400m).
Giga Kick ($5) was hotly fancied to take The Goodwood at Morphettville three weeks ago but couldn't run down Reserve Bank after sitting in a rearward spot.
Benedetta ($7.50) was fourth in last fortnight's Doomben 10,000 to Sunshine In Paris, while Bosustow ($8.50) could not have been more impressive in a six-length Gold Coast Guineas trounce two weeks ago.
Trainer Joe Pride has declared Private Eye ($9) to be as good as ever in the lead-up to this as the $12 million earner has his first run for the calendar year.
South Australian Derby runner-up Statuario ($5f) leads the Queensland Derby market and is favoured to turn the tables on Femminile ($8.50).
That day, Femminile cut the corner and saved ground while Statuario carted wide around the pack and the difference was only three quarters of a length.
Belle Detelle ($6) won back-to-back races earlier this year and was a three-length sixth in the Rough Habit on May 17 as a $3.10 chance.
King Of Thunder ($8.50) is the other runner at single digits after running third in that Rough Habit behind Imperialist ($18).

MONTREAL (AP) — Canadian teenager Victoria Mboko upset top-seeded Coco Gauff 6-1, 6-4 on Saturday night to reach the National Bank Open quarterfinals. Gauff dropped to 2-3 since winning the French Open. Gauff had five double-faults Saturday after having 23 in her opener against Danielle Collins and 14 against Veronika Kudermetova. The 18-year-old Mboko, ranked 85th in the world, will face the winner of the late match between Lin Zhu of China and Jessica Bouzas Maneiro of Spain. A Mail Carrier Was Caught on Camera Pepper-Spraying an Elderly Cat. When the Owner Confronted Him, He ‘Denied It'
The USPS employee swore at the cat multiple times before spraying it and leaving the scene, home security footage showsNEED TO KNOW A USPS mail carrier sprayed an elderly cat with what appeared to be pepper spray in California on July 28, and the incident was caught on camera After the owner confronted the mail carrier, he "denied" spraying the cat USPS is now investigating the incidentA mail carrier was caught on camera spraying an elderly cat with what appeared to be pepper spray — but he denied it. The carrier, a United States Postal Service (USPS) employee, was delivering mail in Rancho Cordova, Calif., on the evening of Monday, July 28, when Chris Commander's cat Xena was sitting outside of his home, as she often does, according to The Sacramento Bee. What the carrier did next shocked Commander, 35, to his core. Rather than pet the 15-year-old feline, as other postal carriers typically do, the man appeared to spray Xena with pepper spray — and the entire incident was caught on camera, with Commander watching live, according to the newspaper. The mail carrier backed away from the tortoiseshell cat, who was standing next to the pathway that leads up to the front door, and said, 'Get the f--- out of here,' the footage, obtained by The Sacramento Bee, shows. Then, despite no reaction from Xena, who was completely motionless, the carrier grabbed a spray bottle from his bag and proceeded to spray liquid at the cat. Xena then scurried across the pathway and away from the carrier, as he repeated, 'Get the f--- out of here,' and began to approach the door. He decided against it, however, instead leaving without dropping off the mail. (He left it on the hood of a car, Commander told The Sacramento Bee.) As the incident unfolded around 7 p.m. local time, Commander — an owner of two dogs and four cats — was sitting in his living room when he heard one of his dogs barking near his front door, he recalled to The Sacramento Bee. Curious, he decided to look at his Ring doorbell camera livestream, and proceeded to witness the mail carrier spray his oldest cat, seemingly unprovoked. The Rancho Cordova resident told the newspaper that he immediately got up to confront the USPS carrier, who was already in his vehicle. Despite evidence to the contrary, he denied spraying the cat. 'I asked him directly, 'Did you spray my cat?' He denied it. And then he said something about he's a cat lover himself,' Commander told The Sacramento Bee. Upon returning home, the proud pet owner found Xena covered in what he described to the newspaper as an oily, strong-smelling substance. He was worried that the spraying may have left the elderly cat with respiratory problems, particularly given her age, but she appeared unscathed and 'in good spirits,' he said. 'I didn't know I had to be worried about this,' Commander told The Sacramento Bee. 'I just can't understand how this even happened, to be honest.' Never miss a story — sign up for to stay up-to-date on the best of what PEOPLE has to offer, from celebrity news to compelling human interest stories. After his confrontation was met with denial, the concerned pet owner submitted a formal complaint to USPS. The institution is aware of the incident, which USPS spokesperson Meiko S. Patton said is currently under review in a statement obtained by The Sacramento Bee. 'The United States Postal Service holds its employees to high standards of conduct, and any actions that conflict with these values are taken seriously. We are currently reviewing this incident and will take appropriate action based on the results to ensure alignment with our commitment to integrity and professionalism," Patton said. While Xena is okay, her owner still wants answers. "I don't see why you'd spray a cat that just wanted to be pet," Commander told CBS News Sacramento. "It was just frustrating,' the owner added, 'and kind of sad to see that." Read the original article on People

Jurnee Smollett on Whether She Wants Her Son to Follow in Her Acting Footsteps: 'I Get Asked This a Lot' (Exclusive)
'I think it's natural if he's around mommy telling stories that there's a good chance he'll want to go into it," the 'Smoke' actress tells PEOPLENEED TO KNOW Jurnee Smollett shares her thoughts on her 8-year-old son Hunter becoming an actor in an exclusive interview with PEOPLE The actress has spent her entire life in front of a camera, but she says she wants to give Hunter the opportunity to explore all possible career fields She also reveals that he appears in the background of her latest show, Smoke, streaming on AppleTV+Jurnee Smollett's most important role is being a supportive mom. Formerly a child actor, Smollett, 38, tells PEOPLE that she and her five siblings all 'just kind of fell into' the field and never knew a life that was any different. Now that she has a son of her own, 8-year-old Hunter, whom she shares with her ex-husband Josiah Bell, she says she has begun to see him take an interest in the craft as well. 'He loves it,' she admits. 'I was just recording something yesterday, and he was with me. And he was just hanging out and everyone was so impressed that he was able to be quiet, and he said to them, 'I grew up on sets.' And it's true." "He's now at an age where he's able to watch the monitor — if the scene is appropriate, obviously," she continues. "And he'll be asking the writers, 'Well, what happens in episode 3? Well, okay, but then what happens?' And sometimes he comes home with things that are happening or places they plan to take the character that I don't even know about.' Smollett says Hunter enjoys all the behind-the-scenes elements of shows and movies and is fascinated by 'the magic of cinema.' 'He keeps asking to be thrown into it,' she reveals. 'So, sometimes the directors, they'll just throw him in the background, and I'm like, 'What is my son doing?'' That happened recently while the actress was filming her latest project, in which she plays an arson investigator in the AppleTV+ crime drama Smoke. She says Hunter makes a cameo in the background of a kid's birthday party scene in episode 3. Despite his curiosity about the entertainment industry, Smollett doesn't want Hunter to feel pressure to follow in her footsteps. 'I get asked this question a lot,' she notes. 'I don't know that I would let him audition when he was young or do the whole hustle. I think I'd encourage him to study it, take classes and workshops. But my goal is to expose him to as many different fields and see what sticks. He plays basketball and baseball, loves sports. He's excelling at math. I mean, he can do math way higher than his grade level and loves science, so he's always making science experiments around the house with some baking soda and vinegar and different ingredients.' Take PEOPLE with you! to get the latest details on celebrity news, exclusive royal updates, how-it-happened true crime stories and more — right to your mailbox. 'I think it's natural if he's around mommy telling stories that there's a good chance he'll want to go into it, but I also want him to have options,' she adds. Smollett was in front of cameras starting when she was 10 months old. Looking back to when she was Hunter's age, Smollett was already known for playing Denise, the best friend of Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen's Michelle Tanner, in Full House. However, she says that she hadn't felt 'that artistic high' that comes from connecting with her characters until she got older. 'It wasn't until I did Eve's Bayou, when I was 10 years old with Samuel Jackson that I fell in love with the craft,' she recalls of the film that won her a Critics' Choice Award in 1998. 'I think prior to that it was fun the way Little League is fun for kids or the way you'll put your child in ballet class and they love to dance.' Smoke is now streaming on Apple TV+ with new episodes dropping weekly on Fridays. Read the original article on People
