Rory McIlroy strikes it rich despite Portrush Open heartbreak
McIlroy seemed reinvigorated coming into this one after some patchy form post-Masters. And although he hit it far from his best, the five-time major winner did enough to get himself into the penultimate group on the final day of the Open.
Trying to chase down eventual winner and world number one Scottie Scheffler, McIlroy finished in a tie for seventh and seven shots off Scheffler.
But he still struck it rich, earning a cool €388,600 to add to his net worth, while Shane Lowry earned a not-so-shabby €58,800 for his week's work.

Seamus Coleman's three options when he retires as he rules out one area of work
Seamus Coleman says he has three options when he finally hangs up his boots - but there is one job that he has no intention of doing. Coleman, who turns 37 in October, still has plenty of miles in his legs, having missed most of the past two seasons through injury. He recently signed a new one-year contract with Everton, and is closing in on 17 years with the Premier League side, as they prepare for a new post-Goodison Park era at the Hill Dickinson Stadium. But thoughts are already turning to when he finally hangs up his boots for club and country. Coleman says he will consider three different paths, but has ruled out one. 'TV work, I don't think that would be for me,' he told the Everton website. 'I would never say never, I might… if opportunities arise. But not TV work. 'Management, coaching, or disappear back to Ireland. It's been those. I'm either going to be a coach, a manager, or go back to Ireland and you'll never hear from me again. I'm not sure.' Before he has to make that decision, however, Coleman has plenty to do both at club and international level. Heimir Hallgrímsson will be eager to include the experienced campaigner in his plans for the World Cup qualifiers, which kick off in September. And Everton boss David Moyes will rely on his experience on the pitch, at the training ground and behind the scenes at the Merseyside outfit. Then there is the prospect of working with another international pal at club level, with goalkeeper Mark Travers set for his first campaign with the Toffees. 'First and foremost he's a great lad, very respectful, very good around the place,' said Coleman about the Kildareman. 'But a really good goalkeeper as well. I had him with Ireland and he pulls off some amazing saves. I think he'll be good to add to the goalkeeping unit. 'I know we are blessed with Jordan, he has been incredible for us over the last couple of years, and Mark will be here to support him and push him along the way. He'll be very well accepted here.' Irish golfer goes viral after leaving pals in stitches at Rory McIlroy's club
Holywood Golf Club has produced one of the greatest players of all time - but now it may have provided us with one of the funniest tee shots ever caught on camera. Rory McIlroy may well be the sweetest driver of a golf ball in the history of the game and when players rock up at his native Holywood Golf Club, they are trying to emulate the Masters champion, in some little way. Holywood Social Club held an outing there at the weekend and a hilarious video of the honorary first tee shot has gone viral, accounting for almost two million views on social media - so far. Proudly boasting a green jacket, similar to that claimed by McIlroy for his Masters triumph at Augusta in April, Conor McGeown has the fortune to be hitting the first tee shot of the day in front of the entire group. Holywood Social Club's opening shot of the day is always taken by the person who finished last in their previous outing, and the golfer must wear a green jacket for the occasion. Hole 1 at Holywood GC is a 336 yard par four. A challenging opener with out of bounds along the left tree line and a steep bank off the right side of the green. The website provides a helpful tip from none other than McIlroy himself, who says: "The opening tee shot requires accuracy, by favoring the left side of the fairway, you provide yourself a full view of the green. Keep approach shot to the middle or left side of the green, avoiding green right!' McGeown may have had that in mind as he went left with the driver. Way left. Perhaps nerves played a major part, as he clipped the ball into a tree on his left just yards from the tee box. After a brief moment of confusion, the ball reappeared, bouncing back along the path onto the tee box and some 20 yards back from where he teed off. "Our golf section had another fantastic outing yesterday held at Holywood golf club, some brilliant golf played with plenty of laughs had by all. The winners were: Gary Humphries - winner ( better back 9 ), Colm McIlroy - 2nd, Billy white - 3rd. Winner of the famous green jacket Richard Round. "But special mention has to go to Conor Mcgeown who undoubtedly played the best trick shot anyone will ever see, watch for yourselves in the video," said the post. Their video has now been viewed 750,000 times on Facebook. On top of that, the popular NUCLR GOLF account on Twitter/X shared the video with the caption - Rough start to the boys trip. Their video on X has just shy of one million views.
