CUCKOO Malaysia posts record RM1.24bil revenue, issues IPO update

KUALA LUMPUR: CUCKOO International (MAL) Bhd, a leading healthy home solutions provider, has issued a supplementary prospectus outlining amendments to its earlier principal prospectus, following the strategic rescheduling of its initial public offering (IPO).
The decision to delay the IPO, according to the company, was a carefully considered move by CUCKOO Malaysia's management aimed at ensuring a successful and sustainable entry into the public market, aligned with the best interests of the company and its investors.
In its supplementary prospectus, CUCKOO Malaysia reported record revenue of RM1.24 billion for the financial year ended Dec 31, 2024 (FYE2024), marking a continuation of its billion-ringgit revenue streak ahead of its scheduled listing on the Main Market of Bursa Malaysia on June 24, 2025.
The company's revenue grew by 11 per cent year-on-year, driven by a 62.6 per cent surge in CUCKOO Co-created products, which reached RM250.3 million, and a 3 per cent increase in CUCKOO-branded products to RM983.2 million.
Pre-tax profit (PBT) rose 23.2 per cent, supported by stronger gross profit margins and reduced finance costs, particularly from a lower net foreign exchange loss. These gains were partially offset by RM5.7 million in IPO-related expenses.
CUCKOO Malaysia also delivered a significant 47.7 per cent rise in profit after tax and minority interests (PATAMI), reaching RM128.9 million in FYE2024, up from RM87.3 million the previous year.
Non-independent executive director and chief executive officer of CUCKOO International Hoe Kian Choon expressed confidence in the company's future outlook, citing robust consumer demand, a resilient rental-based business model, sustained investment in technology and infrastructure, and the strength of its experienced senior leadership team.
"We are pleased to deliver a strong financial performance, highlighting our ongoing commitments in expanding the company's market presence by leveraging CUCKOO Malaysia's effective business model, omni-channel distribution network and ever-expanding wellness ecosystem," he said in a statement.
Hoe added that the company remains focused on scaling up its operations by broadening its product offerings, strengthening home care services, and deepening its market presence across Malaysia and Singapore.
"With this, we are confident that it will support our continued growth and enable us to serve a larger customer base by building brand loyalty to retain our customers and to cross-sell more of our products or services to them," he said.
The supplementary prospectus also outlines the withdrawal process for investors who submitted IPO applications prior to the rescheduling announcement but now wish to retract their applications.
The closing date for withdrawal requests is 5.00 p.m. on May 22, 2025.
Investors may withdraw through Malaysian Issuing House (MIH), bank branches, or online platforms where applications were made. Refunds will be processed either on the same day or within eight market days of receiving a completed and valid Withdrawal Request Form, depending on the method used.
The form is available via the MIH website (www.mih.com.my), by email (BRMY-MIHIPO@boardroomlimited.com), or through postal submission to Malaysian Issuing House Sdn Bhd.
Investors who withdraw may still reapply for the IPO during the application period, subject to terms stated in the supplementary prospectus.
The IPO application period remains open and will close on June 5, 2025, with CUCKOO Malaysia's listing on June 24, 2025, on Bursa Malaysia's Main Market.

Nestle's outlook brightens with wage growth, govt support measures

PETALING JAYA: Things are starting to look up for Nestle (M) Bhd , the purveyor of Milo chocolate malt drinks and Maggi noodles, as lower commodity prices, a combination of wage growth and government support measures and the decline of boycotts drove earnings in the second quarter ended June 30, 2025 (2Q25). While analysts remain cautious of the company's outlook, CIMB Research, which has maintained a 'hold' call on the stock with a target price (TP) of RM86.20, expects gradual demand recovery as consumer sentiment normalises amid fading boycott impact as well as likely improvements in exports leveraging on its place as Nestle SA's global halal hub. It believes the share valuation of 35.9 times financial year ending Dec 31, 2025 (FY25) price-to-earnings (PE) has priced in the weak near-term outlook, driven by lower sales volume assumptions amid prevailing soft consumer sentiment and global uncertainties, noting the inelastic demand for its largely consumer staple product offerings, strong brand equity, and diversified product portfolio across key food categories. Affin Hwang Research noted that the 2Q25 financial performance signals that the worst could probably be over, with the boycott pressures easing meaningfully, and has upgraded the stock to a 'buy' call and a TP of RM95 from RM85, implying 42 times PE. A stronger ringgit together with easing commodity prices may help lift the company's margins in the coming quarters. It pointed out that the RM100 credit given through the MyKad to all Malaysians aged 18 and above would also support higher sales in the second half of the year, as many Nestle products comes under the MySara programme. RHB Research said revenue growth, which returned in 2Q25, could be sustainable premised on the company's effective marketing engagements to stimulate consumer spending and the normalising sentiment on its brands. It has upgraded the stock to a 'buy' call from 'neutral' and raised the TP to RM95 from RM77 as the research house thinks that the comeback 'is timely in view of the pick-up in investor appetite for defensive stocks amidst uncertain market conditions.' 'We also expect a margin recovery ahead, on easing commodity prices. 'Post results, we raise FY25 to FY27 earnings by 8%, 7%, 3% after imputing higher sales growth and gross profit margin assumptions,' it said. UOB Kay Hian Research, which has maintained a 'hold' recommendation but with a higher TP of RM82 from RM76, said earnings for FY25 and FY26 has been lifted by 5.6% and 5.2% respectively to factor in higher sales and margin assumptions. 'Nestle had undertaken a price exercise adjustment in July 24 for certain products by 5% to 6% that appears to have largely protected its margins against higher input cost. 'Coupled with its hedging, margins should sustain over the near term,' it added.

Consumer sector set for boost from cash aid, fuel reforms — analysts

KUALA LUMPUR: Consumer sector, including food and beverage (F&B), will receive immediate boost from the government's latest cash handout and fuel subsidy reforms, analysts said. The stimulus should also provide a modest upside for banks, while consumer-linked real estate inverstment trusts (Reits) may gain from higher tenant sales, improving occupancy and rental performance. Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on Wednesday announced a one-off RM100 cash aid totalling RM2 billion under Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (Sara) as part of fiscal measures to address rising cost of living. The prime minister also announced a lower RON95 petrol price to RM1.99 per litre to ease transportation costs for the public and a freeze of scheduled toll price hikes on 10 highways. Analysts said the likes of Nestle (M) Bhd, Fraser & Neave Holdings Bhd, QL Resources Bhd and Farm Fresh Bhd should benefit from increased demand for staple F&B products, many of which may be eligible for purchase using the RM100 credit. The retailers expected to benefit from these initiatives include 99 Speed Mart Retail Holdings Bhd, Aeon Co (M) Bhd, Eco-Shop Marketing Bhd and Mr DIY Group (M) Bhd. Hong Leong Investment Bank Bhd (HLIB) said the one-off cash transfer and lower RON95 price for the majority of Malaysians is supportive of private consumption. "Assuming the full RM100 must be spent to realise the benefit, we estimate the RM2 billion would increase private consumption growth by about 0.2 percentage point. "The additional cash transfer of RM2 billion translates to 0.1 per cent of gross domestic product (GDP)," it added. HLIB noted that the direct cash injection into consumers' wallets from Aug 31 is timely and will help sustain spending momentum heading into the fourth quarter of 2025. "We expect 99 Speedmart and Aeon to benefit from these developments. 99 Speedmart, with 2,800 outlets nationwide and an average basket size of RM21.40, is particularly well positioned to capture recurring spend from consumers using Sara credits. "Aeon, with its urban footprint and diversified merchandise, may see uplift from middle-income segments with improved purchasing sentiment," HLIB said. CIMB Securities continues to favour companies within the consumer sector that benefit from stable demand for essential goods and are well-placed to tap into downtrading trends by catering to the mass-market segment. "We are keeping our earnings forecasts unchanged at this juncture, as we believe the announced fiscal support measures will underpin our existing revenue growth assumptions for the stocks under our coverage," it added. The consumer sector is currently trading at 27.2 times its one-year forward price-to-earnings ratio, which is just over one standard deviation below its five-year average of 29.1 times, CIMB Securities said. It said the current valuations are reasonable, taking into account subdued consumer sentiment, the higher sales tax on discretionary items, boycott-related impacts on certain brands such as Nestlé and Berjaya Food Bhd, as well as rising costs linked to the expanded sales and service tax (SST) on rental expenses. MBSB Research, formerly MIDF Research, expects the consumer discretionary segment to register the most immediate upside. This is given its sensitivity to short-term demand shifts and sentiment. "Likely beneficiaries include Aeon (broad retail exposure), Padini Hodlings Bhd (affordable fashion), Oriental Kopi Holdings Bhd (F&B) and 99 Speedmart, which commands strong traction among price-sensitive urban and semi-urban consumers," it said. The consumer staples segment, MBSB Reserach said, remains structurally resilient, with consistent volume support driven by essential nature of demand and targeted cash disbursements. Players such as F&N, Life Water Bhd and Leong Hup International Bhd are poised to benefit from steady consumption of beverages, bottled water and poultry products. Meanwhile, HLIB said the government is likely to see a slight rise in subsidy expenditure due to the lower subsidised fuel price from RM2.05 to RM1.99 per litre. However, this is expected to be fully balanced out by the targeted subsidy rationalisation measures, lower global oil prices and a stronger ringgit. "At the same time, the government has already implemented SST expansion in July 2025 with a target of RM5 billion additional revenue for 2025. Taking all this into account, we maintain our fiscal deficit projection of 3.8 per cent of GDP," it said. HLIB has a positive view of the government's "appreciation package", highlighting the Sara credit as a key component. "With RM2 billion allocated, this one-off aid, redeemable at over 4,100 outlets and local grocers broadens the impact beyond the B40 segment by providing per capita support. "A household of four, for instance, could receive RM400 in total, enhancing purchasing power for essential goods through year end," it said. HLIB said the government's decision to cut RON95 petrol prices to RM1.99 per litre and freeze toll rate increases on 10 major highways is expected to ease financial pressure on households. These initiatives, it noted, will boost net disposable income, particularly for daily commuters and lower-income groups, thereby supporting consumption growth across the wider retail sector.

Nestle confident of profit upswing in 2H25

Nestle (M) Bhd chief executive officer Juan Aranols. PETALING JAYA: Nestle (M) Bhd , which recorded earnings growth in the second quarter of financial year ended June 30, 2025 (2Q25), remains upbeat on its outlook for the second half of financial year 2025 (2H25), supported by sustained brand strength, digitalisation and cost optimisation to drive profit recovery despite ongoing market headwinds. Chief executive officer Juan Aranols said the company is confident that these efforts will continue to underpin growth and support recovery in the months ahead. 'As we navigate through 2H25, we remain confident in our ability to drive solid growth momentum and profit recovery through the coming quarters,' he noted in a statement. He said while the company remains 'mindful and vigilant of the geopolitical uncertainties that may impact the business environment in Malaysia,' it is well-positioned to stay resilient by accelerating digitalisation and boosting efficiencies to fund brand investments and innovation. 'We will further accelerate our journey through rapid digitalisation and pursuing efficiencies that fuel brand investments and innovations to strengthen market leadership,' he said. For 2Q25, Nestle's revenue rose 9.5% year-on-year to RM1.67bil from RM1.52bil, while net profit surged 19.8% to RM112.11mil from RM93.6mil. The growth was underpinned by broad-based brand performance and continued momentum from festive campaigns in the previous quarter. 'Alongside domestic sales, the company's export business also accelerated, confirming Nestle's international competitiveness while continuing to leverage its role as the largest halal manufacturing hub for the Nestle group worldwide,' the statement noted. For 1H25, revenue rose 4% to RM3.44bil from RM3.31bil in the same period last year, although net profit dipped 5.4% to RM273.45mil from RM289.11mil. Nestle attributed its performance to margin management amid persistent volatility in commodity prices, 'through the systematic application of the Nestle Virtuous Circle framework.' 'This approach emphasises a relentless focus on efficiency and cost optimisation to fund brand investments that drive growth and market share gains,' it noted. 'The profit improvement also reflects solid top-line recovery, supported by a prudent approach to pricing amid cost increases,' the company said. Aranols said the 2Q25 results validated the group's earlier guidance of returning to healthy growth in the 1H25. 'Amid market volatility and intense competition, we continued to drive strong brand plans with effective execution across all sales channels,' he added. Nestle declared a first interim dividend of 70 sen per share during the quarter – unchanged from a year ago. Throughout the quarter, the company maintained its focus on the key drivers of consumer preference for its brands and product offerings – particularly quality, taste and nutritional relevance. 'In combination with its wide distribution network and best-in-class commercial execution, the company's core products performed well, complemented by product innovations that have been positively received by consumers, helping to sustain market leadership positions,' it added. Nestle's shares closed 7% higher yesterday, up RM5.42 to RM82.32.
