SEA Games 2025: NSC Denies Claims Of Funding Issues For National Road Cycling Team
NSC director-general Jefri Ngadirin said an allocation of RM300,000 had been approved, with part of the amount already disbursed to fund preparations for the biennial games.
'We held a workshop to list athletes for the SEA Games with PKBM on Jan 16, and both parties agreed that the road cycling team will consist of professional riders.

'However, the decision to choose either Terengganu Cycling Team (TSG) or Malaysian Pro Cycling (MPC) lies under the jurisdiction of PKBM,' he told reporters after attending the Sportswriters Association of Malaysia (SAM)-100PLUS Awards 2024 here today.
He added that claims that the NSC had not provided support in terms of needs or preparations should not have arisen, given that team selection was PKBM's responsibility.
Commenting on PKBM's request to purchase bicycles, Jefri said that if TSG were chosen to compete at the Games, the matter would not arise as the team already possesses the necessary equipment.
'If there is a new plan or additional requests, I urge PKBM to come and discuss with us so we can evaluate the matter together,' he said.
Meanwhile, Jefri said the issue of clubs pulling out should not arise, given the prior understanding between NSC and PKBM.
Earlier, PKBM president Datuk Amarjit Singh Gill stressed that the national road cycling squad would not withdraw from the 2025 SEA Games and would aim to defend the medals won in the previous edition.

Olympics-Flag football to make primetime Olympic debut at LA28
LOS ANGELES (Reuters) -Flag football will take center stage during the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, after organizers confirmed the sport's medal matches will be held in primetime slots in its first-ever Olympic appearance. The International Federation of American Football (IFAF), in partnership with the National Football League (NFL), announced on Monday that the men's and women's medal games are scheduled for Friday evening, July 21, and Saturday afternoon, July 22, at BMO Stadium near downtown Los Angeles. The announcement comes as senior IFAF and NFL delegations visit Los Angeles for the first official meetings with Games organizers, marking exactly three years to the day before the LA28 Opening Ceremony. "Flag football will definitely be a hot ticket at the Games," IFAF President Pierre Trochet told Reuters on Monday. "We're going to be at a great stadium right in the heart of the city and we're going to have fantastic players on the field with NFL players available." Flag football is a non-contact variation of American football in which players wear flags attached to their waists. Instead of tackling, defensive players must remove a flag from the ball carrier to end a play. The sport is played on a smaller field with fewer players per side. The inclusion of flag football in LA28 follows a vote by NFL owners allowing NFL players to participate in the Olympic competition. Trochet said the primetime scheduling was a clear statement of a shared ambition to ensure flag football contributes a "defining element" of LA28's success. Organizers hope to capture the excitement of "Friday Night Lights," a cherished American tradition, and generate iconic moments for the sport's Olympic launch. "We could not dream of a better setup to start our debut in the Olympic movement and Olympic journey," he said. The IFAF delegation, including managing director Andy Fuller and senior NFL executives, is set to tour Exposition Park and other venues over a three-day visit. KUCHING (July 15): Chung Hua Mile 4 1/2 Primary School and SMK Kuching High lifted the primary school and secondary school titles respectively for the third consecutive year at the Kuching Division Wushu Championships on Sunday. The two-day competition held at Aeon Mall Kuching Central saw Chung Hua Mile 4 1/2 on top with 37 gold, 27 silver and nine bronze medals followed by Chung Hua Primary School No. 3 (16-7-10) and Chung Hua Sungai Lubak (13-4-6), Chung Hua Primary School No. 1 (11-18-39) and Chung Hua Primary School Stapok (8-12-4). The primary school champions earned more honours when Crystal Wee Yu Tang walked away with the Best Girl Athlete after she collected 24.818 points from winning golds in Girls Group B 1st International gunshu, daoshu and changquan. The Best Boy performer was Ethan Yap Tai Xen who collected 254.806 points after winning golds in Boys Group B 1st International qiangshu, jianshu and changquan. Meanwhile, SMK Kuching High proved unstoppable again amassing 18-4-1 to top the 12-team competition followed by SMK Jalan Arang (9-5-2), SMK Pending 4-0-0), Borneo International School (3-3-0) and SMK Sungai Tapang (3-2-0). A total of 208 athletes representing 36 kindergartens, primary schools and secondary schools participated in the competition. Member of Parliament for Stampin Chong Chieng Jen closed the event and gave away the prizes.
