A flight attendant says a new sound is now being played into airplane toilets to hide embarrassing 'toilet sounds'. Esther Sturrus posted a video to TikTok to demonstrate the new feature.
She posed in the mirror and showed the speaker inside the toilet. The 24-year-old, who has worked for Dutch airline KLM since 2020, laughed as the sound of birds chirping filled the air. The sound has been installed on the brand new Airbus A321neo.
Since the summer of 2024, KLM has gradually been replacing their Boeing 737 with the model, according to their website. '[The birdsong] definitely catches people by surprise the first time,' said Esther, who is from Rotterdam.
'You're expecting the usual hum of the engines or total silence, and instead you're suddenly surrounded by chirping birds. The idea behind it is to make the onboard experience a little more soothing and enjoyable, even in the smallest and most unexpected places.
'The birdsong gives a sort of spa-like vibe. Let's be honest, it also nicely covers the classic toilet sounds, so it might just be functional too. I found it unusual and amusing and just had to capture the moment.
'It's little touches like these that show how much thought can go into even the tiniest details of a flight experience.'
Esther often reveals secrets of the skies with her 222,500 followers on TikTok. And the 24-year-old attracted 21,300 views with her latest video.
Her followers loved the new feature, and some viewers said they'd even had the sounds installed in their own homes. Ronald said, 'So nice, we have this at home too.'
KLM Airlines said: 'Very mindful.'
'I'm the type of person who just falls asleep on the toilet with such a calm sound,' added Giovanni.
A fourth viewer joked: 'Next flight bring bird food.' 'This is what we have at home,' another person added.

Very quickly I had 1,000 watching and it grew and grew and grew so I then thought I can't stop now and people were saying we need to see more so I got back in the pit"." These twisted gatherings - reportedly organised by wealthy men - lure young models and influencers with promises of tens of thousands of pounds, luxury gifts, and lavish hotel stays, reports the Mirror. But behind the glitz lies a horrifying truth, including acts of extreme sexual degradation, physical abuse, and potential legal peril for the women involved. An influencer sparked concern on TikTok after sharing extravagant gifts bought for her by a stranger she met at the gym on Wednesday. Jade, who goes by @outplayedbyjade online, is originally from France but travelled to Dubai as she documented her trip online. In her video, she explained how she had been leaving the gym when workers approached her with a gift from someone she had met on the treadmill. "I didn't think much of it," she explained in the video. A worker handed her a bouquet of flowers and chocolate from the man she had struck up a conversation with. Flattered, she texted the number he had left with the gift to thank him, after which she then received a call from a shop assistant at the luxury jewellery designer store Van Cleef & Arpels. "I'm a very curious girl, so I make my way over to the shop," she explained. "This assistant pulls out a beautiful bracelet and a matching necklace." All together, the gifts were worth around £3,000. And while Jade was over the moon with her gifts, fans were quick to warn the influencer that he was a "professional" and to "be careful" amid reports of men recruiting women for " Porta-Parties" in Dubai. There was no information to confirm the intentions of the man spoiling Jade. Maria Kovalchuk, a 20-year-old Ukrainian adult model, who was reportedly left for dead after attending one of the Porta-Potty parties. Maria vanished after telling her mother she'd been invited to stay overnight with two men claiming to be modelling agents. She never made her flight to Thailand. Ten days later, on March 19, she was found dumped at the roadside in Dubai, suffering from a shattered spine, broken limbs, and severe internal injuries. Maria has undergone multiple surgeries, and her family, now at her bedside, are desperate for answers. It's thought she is still recovering from her injuries. Dubai Police confirmed that Maria is receiving medical care, but claimed she 'entered a restricted construction site alone and fell from a height'. A statement many find hard to accept, given the disturbing rumours swirling around her disappearance. Russian lawyer Katya Gordon, who has followed the case closely, bluntly alleged: "Model Maria Kovalchuk was found dying on the side of the road in the UAE after a party. The scandal with the Porta Potty parties has been raging for over a year." Gordon and others allege that Maria may have been forced to take part in a sex act involving human faeces - a central theme of these "Porta-Potty" events, where humiliation and abuse are part of the package. These parties reportedly involve women being paid vast sums of money to perform grotesque acts involving bodily fluids, degradation and pain. Viral videos have helped expose this shadowy world, but the abuse is largely hidden by Dubai's shiny reputation and strict censorship laws. And the women involved in these parties could even find themselves prosecuted. Radha Stirling, CEO of Detained in Dubai, has warned that women involved in these parties - even against their will - could face charges of adultery or indecency, especially if married men are present. "Sex outside marriage has been legalised in Dubai, but organisers have exploited this. Women think they're attending a private party - instead, they're thrown into horrific, dangerous situations with real legal risk," Stirling said. Maria's mother told Ukrainian media: "She has no documents, no phone, nothing. She's had three operations. She can't speak. We were told she went to a party, but the promoter claims he never saw her. We're terrified of what really happened." More info Vik on TikTok documented a curious experiment on a Ryanair flight when his friend Ethan decided to purchase every scratch card available onboard to test his luck, the venture astonishingly leaving them with nothing. The video clip that Vik shared shows his shock as he pulls out scratch card after scratch card with no success; even fellow passengers joined in to lend a hand with the scratching frenzy. Detailing the bizarre event, Viktok stated: "We are here on Ryanair and this man Ethan has bought every single scratch card on the flight. I've opened about 100 scratch cards, I've been opening these one at a time. "We have not won a single thing. We have won nothing - no one has won anything. I'll keep you guys posted." In total, Ethan got hold of 68 packets of scratch cards, but much to their bewilderment, they didn't have an ounce of luck. He enlisted the help of other travellers to get through the masses of scratch cards, yet a win proved elusive. Despair filled the cabin as someone hollered: "No one won anything.", reports Belfast Live. Vik continued: "You're supposed to match three - I can't even match two. We've lost again." The group was dumbfounded by the lack of winnings. After the video made its way online, it rapidly attracted views into the thousands and prompted a barrage of comments as viewers shared their thoughts on the fruitless endeavour. A passenger quipped: "100% they won't allow mass buying on the flight again, lol." Another, claiming to be Ryanair cabin crew, warned: "I am cabin crew for Ryanair and there is so much more that you don't know. They can't sell you that many. There is a limit spend per passenger. Cabin crew in trouble!". A third person mused: "I wonder how many people have ever won money on those." In contrast, someone who found luck aboard shared: "I remember winning like £26 of on board vouchers. When asking to buy something, I heard the cabin crew say 'someone's actually won'. That's how slim your odds are." These scratch cards sold by Ryanair came under fire after it emerged that jackpot "winners" must participate in a further draw to get a shot at the €1million prize. According to an investigation from 2016, the supposed victor is faced with choosing from 125 envelopes, only one of which contains the jackpot. Back then, Ryanair highlighted that other envelopes held €50,000, suggesting there was still substantial money to win. Reports went on to highlight that the promotional materials claimed a car was won each month, with additional cash prizes up to €5,000 available. The staggering odds for scooping the jackpot were also unveiled, believed to be around 1.2billion to one. For comparison, winning the Lotto here has odds of 10.7million to one, whilst earning the EuroMillions jackpot stands at a probability of 139.8million to one. With the National Lottery, you're only allowed to buy 10 scratch cards in a single transaction, but it's not clear how many you can purchase with Ryanair. The company has been asked to comment on these claims.
