Thomas Frank shows his true colours over Ange Postecoglou as new Tottenham boss makes feelings clear
The former Brentford manager was hired by Daniel Levy to take over from the ex-Celtic gaffer in North London
Thomas Frank has spoken out on Ange Postecoglou as part of his first interview as Tottenham's new manager – hailing him as a legend.
The former Celtic boss delivered on his second season trophy promise as he sparked wild scenes in Bilbao by defeating Manchester United in the Europa League Final and ending the long wait for silverware in North London.
The triumph also booked a golden ticket to the Champions League this season and landed Spurs a mega windfall in the process.
However, a 17th place finish in the English Premier League - despite the success in Europe's second tier competition - proved to much for Daniel Levy and club bosses as they decided to axe Ange after two seasons at the club.
They moved quickly and turned attentions to Brentford boss Frank and got a deal over the line with the Bees.
Now, the new Spurs boss has spoken for the first time since taking up his new position and he has shown his true colours over the man he has replaced.
Speaking as part of an in-house interview, Frank said: "I think Ange has done something special. He'll forever be a legend in Tottenham.
"It's important to understand we all stand on the shoulders of others.
"I'm going in on the foundation Ange built, and his coaching staff, and I'm very humble about that.
"I'll do my very best to continue the great work he put in.
"The feeling, the excitement, the joy and the happiness in the fans' faces, the pictures were 'wow'.
"Hopefully, we can create more of those moments. That will be the ultimate dream: to do that and build on that."
Tottenham kick off the new season at home to Burnley but before that EPL showdown they have the small matter of fighting PSG in the Super Cup with more silverware on the line before the campaign even gets up and running.
Ange has already been linked with a quick-fire return to the dugout in Saudi as he ponders his next steps.

The Old Trafford academy product left United for his first stint with Juve in 2012. Four glittering years later, Pogba returned to the Red Devils for a then-British record fee of £89million. But his Premier League form was more erratic than electric. Pogba did help Jose Mourinho's Red Devils win both the Europa League and League Cup in 2016-17. Just days ago, as he neared his move to Monaco, Pogba said: "I'm mentally and physically ready, and I'm eager to start again. "I'm 32, but I still feel like a kid." Pogba also criticised Juve for rejecting his pleas for help. He told French TV channel TF1: "I asked to get a fitness coach. I had the right, and I was always part of the team. "They were not very kind to me, they did not support me, and I was shocked. I did not understand why." "I thought I was at war with anti-doping authorities."

My last five years at Rangers with Walter Smith were more satisfying than nine in a row, says Sir David Murray
Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) SIR DAVID MURRAY insists his final five years at Ibrox were even MORE satisfying than capturing the coveted Nine in a Row. The former Rangers owner was in charge for 23 years as the club reached a European final and came within 90 minutes of the first-ever Champions League final. But Sir David — speaking exclusively to SunSport — rates Smith's return in early 2007 and the next five years as the highlight. He said: 'Taking all factors into consideration, I think the last five years were remarkable. 'Previously, we had money to spend but it was tight when Walter came back. 'Paul Le Guen hadn't worked out. 'When Walter came back, he wanted to sign David Weir and Christian Dailly. It was unbelievable but he knew how to do it. 'Having Alistair McCoist and Kenny McDowall with him, they were a unit full of motivation. 'We won eight trophies in five years. When I left, it was on the brink of Three in a Row.' Murray appointed just four men as manager over 23 years — Smith (twice), Le Guen, Dick Advocaat and Alex McLeish. And he recalls with great fondness the run to the 2008 UEFA Cup final in Manchester — despite ultimately falling to Advocaat's Zenit St Petersburg. Sir Sean Connery's secret £1 MILLION investment in Rangers revealed He added: 'If you look at the UEFA Cup run in 2008, the penalty shoot-out against Fiorentina stands out. 'Christian Vieri, who cost millions, missed and Nacho Novo — a free from Dundee — slotted it away. 'What we had at that time was a tightness and a bond. 'People on the outside thought they knew things but there was no leakage. Football's scoop of the century By Roger Hannah IT'S The Sun Wot Broke It. But Sir David Murray didn't mind that his historic swoop for Maurice Johnston was first revealed on the front page of this newspaper in 1989. He was just relieved he'd managed to help Graeme Souness pull off a transfer swoop which rocked Scottish football. Even now, 36 years on, landing the Scotland striker from Celtic's grasp — and making him the first high- profile Catholic to play for Gers — is regarded as the most audacious swoop of all time. And Murray recalls: 'All the talk was of Johnston joining Celtic. But Graeme came to me and said, 'Apparently he's not signed, the paperwork's not done, we can get him'. 'I asked for a day to think about it, phoned him and said, 'Yes, I think we should do it for numerous reasons — for football reasons and to remove an area where we can be criticised for not signing Catholic players. And why not make it the best one, who can come in and contribute?' 'Even though at that time Mark Hateley and Ally McCoist were the strikers and had an excellent partnership. 'Finally, just 24 hours before we were due to unveil the player, we took a call from a young journalist at The Sun in Scotland ahead of a story being published. 'On July 10, 1989, The Sun ran half of its front page with the simple headline MO JOINS GERS. 'It certainly didn't spoil the unveiling. If anything, it ramped up the tension!' Johnston, who had played with Celts before a spell at Nantes in France, was pictured with Hoops boss Billy McNeill in 1989 but hadn't signed his contract to return. Gers boss Souness, who had played with Johnston for Scotland, realised the move hadn't been concluded and kickstarted the monumental move. 'That was an amazing achievement considering where we'd been 18 months before.' In his new autobiography, Murray details his relationship with all four men he appointed — and close pal Graeme Souness, who he inherited as boss when he bought the club in 1988. - Mettle: Tragedy, Courage & Titles by Sir David Murray, is on sale Thursday July 3 from Amazon and all good bookshops. Paul Pogba to take squad number worn by six Prem stars as return confirmed
Paul Pogba has confirmed his return to club football after nearly two years and the ex-Man Utd star will play for Ligue 1 side Monaco as he chases a recall to the France squad Former Manchester United star Paul Pogba will wear the number eight shirt at new club Monaco, it has been claimed. The French international has signed a two-year contract with the club, having been out of the game for nearly two years following a doping ban. Pogba, 32, left Juventus in late 2024 but didn't join another club before the end of the European season. Now, though, he has moved to the French Riviera for a shot at Ligue 1 and Champions League football. Monaco and Pogba confirmed the deal on Saturday in a video in which the player utters the words 'La Renaissance'. He joins a team who finished third in Ligue 1 last term, meaning they'll enter the Champions League at the league phase. He has joined a number of former Premier League players at Stade Louis II, including former Arsenal striker Flo Balogun and another ex-Gunners striker in Mika Biereth. However, there's set to be another Premier League sub-plot when it comes to his squad number. According to RMC Sport (via GFFN), Pogba will take the number eight shirt vacated by Libyan international Al-Musrati when his loan ends. It's a number which was once worn by Real Madrid and France star Aurelien Tchouameni, as well as a number of others familiar to English football fans. According to Transfermarkt, Youri Djorkaeff wore 8 for Monaco in the 90s - long before his Premier League spells at Boldon and Blackburn. In 1995-96 it was the turn of Sylvain Legwinski, who would later follow ex-Monaco boss Jean Tigana to Fulham. Ali Benarbia then had two seasons in the number eight shirt before leaving for Bordeaux in 1998. He would later move to England to join Manchester City, helping them win promotion to the Premier League in 2002. Fast forward to 2013, when Monaco splashed out on a number of big signings, and Joao Moutinho took the number. He kept the number in 2018, when Wolves came calling and offered him a Premier League opportunity. The following year, Youri Tielemens began the season with the number. He left for Leicester in January 2019, initially on loan, and it was Adrien Silva who ended up taking his number the following summer after moving in the opposite direction. Pogba isn't the only new arrival at Monaco this summer. Adi Hutter's side have also agreed a deal for Eric Dier, who will join on a free transfer when his Bayern Munich contract expires at the end of June.
