Israel's escalating campaign: New wave of strikes hits Syria
Shafaq News/ Israeli warplanes carried out airstrikes on multiple sites across Syria late Wednesday, hitting the Scientific Research Center in Damascus' Barzeh district, according to Syrian and Israeli media.
Medical sources told the state-run SANA news agency that several people were wounded in the attack. Explosions were also reported at Hama Military Airport, while Israeli strikes targeted areas near the airport and the vicinity of T4 Military Airbase in eastern Homs countryside.
The Israeli military has not commented on the strikes.

The attack comes amid an escalation in Israeli operations in Syria following the collapse of Bashar al-Assad's regime on December 8, 2024. Since then, Israel has intensified its military campaign, conducting more than 350 airstrikes aimed at missile depots, radar installations, and chemical weapons sites. Strikes have largely focused on Damascus, Homs, and Tartous, reportedly destroying over 70% of Syria's military infrastructure, including aircraft and naval assets.
Israeli forces have also advanced into southern Syria, taking control of parts of the Golan Heights buffer zone. Israeli troops have also expanded to key positions, including Mount Hermon, where they are reportedly fortifying their presence for long-term control.

Zelenskyy calls night of 537 Russian strikes ‘most terrifying'
Shafaq News – Kyiv/Moscow On Sunday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned Russia's overnight aerial offensive as the largest of the war, involving more than 530 drones and missiles. "This was one of the most terrifying nights for Ukrainians," Zelenskyy said in a press statement, warning that Moscow was escalating its tactics and pressing for immediate international support. Ukraine's military reported that Russian forces launched 537 aerial threats overnight, including 477 Shahed-type drones and 60 cruise and ballistic missiles, in a coordinated attack targeting multiple regions. Air defenses intercepted 475 targets using fighter jets, mobile launchers, and electronic warfare systems. Strikes were reported across Lviv, Dnipropetrovsk, Poltava, Cherkasy, Mykolaiv, and Ivano-Frankivsk provinces, damaging civilian infrastructure—including several university buildings—and injuring at least six people. Israel prison strike in Iran killed over 70
Shafaq News – Tehran The Israeli missile strike on Iran's Evin Prison killed at least 71 people, including prison staff, inmates, conscripts, and nearby residents, the Iranian judiciary revealed on Sunday. The attack had occurred on June 22, damaging multiple buildings inside the high-security facility, including the clinic, engineering wing, and visitation hall, according to Tasnim News Agency. Israel's Army Radio previously acknowledged the strike on the prison, which allegedly holds "political prisoners and opposition figures.' Judiciary spokesperson Asghar Jahangir called the incident 'a fully-fledged crime,' adding that casualties included civilians living near the site and family members visiting inmates at the time. Meanwhile, judiciary sources denied claims that Evin's warden, Hedayatollah Farzadi, had prior knowledge of the attack and escaped, confirming that he was inside one of the prison wards with a visiting delegation during the strike.
