Oman enacts organ transplant law to protect donors
The new legislation forms a vital part of the country's evolving health laws and addresses the growing need for advanced organ transplant procedures.
Dr Hilal bin Ali al Sabti, Minister of Health, said that the law underpins the National Organ Transplant Programme and provides a clear legal structure for organ donation — whether from living donors or posthumous contributions. The decree guarantees the rights and safety of donors and recipients, regulates the responsibilities of healthcare institutions and outlines medical procedures and ethical standards in accordance with international best practices.
'The organ transplant law reflects Oman's progressive approach to public health and meets an urgent need in addressing cases of terminal organ failure,' Dr Al Sabti said. 'It ensures that the system operates with transparency, respect for human dignity and medical integrity.'
The minister also stressed the importance of comprehensive legislation such as the Public Health Law, which serves as a reference framework for all aspects of healthcare. The new organ transplant law aligns with Oman Vision 2040, which emphasises quality healthcare and well-being as a national priority.
Dr Al Sabti praised His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik for his unwavering support of the health sector and his vision to provide integrated and advanced healthcare services across the Sultanate of Oman.

The Financial Services Authority had taken the initiative to issue clear legislation to ensure the protection of this data within Oman. He noted that the company represents a reliable source managed by national competencies, meeting market needs through its proximity to clients, which directly reflects on work quality and the speed of transaction completion. Faisal Al Rashdi said that it is natural for any sector to face some challenges when entering a phase of change, especially when there are long-standing working relationships between the market and external parties that have managed this activity for decades. However, he stressed the necessity of redoubling efforts to build trust and confirm readiness to provide high-standard services that meet the needs and aspirations of target groups, in addition to full compliance with national regulations. As for the project's nature, he mentioned that the company offers a comprehensive package of services in health insurance claims management that meets international standards. These include accurate and prompt medical claims management, medical and administrative verification using smart systems to detect duplication and errors, as a step towards time management. It also covers medical network management, from contracting with hospitals and clinics to ensuring the quality of service provided to policyholders, in addition to data analysis and smart reporting that helps insurance companies make decisions based on accurate data. He emphasized that the company relies heavily on digital solutions and modern technologies, including artificial intelligence, for faster data analysis and the automation of routine operations using robotic process automation (RPA), which reduces manual errors and saves time and effort. Furthermore, it is fully integrated with the national platform developed by the Financial Services Authority ("Dhamani" platform), which has been approved for fully electronic operations. He clarified that the company handles data confidentially, storing client data on company-owned servers only, without relying on external servers, to ensure complete control over information security. MoH warns against signs of digital addiction during summer holidays
Muscat: The Ministry of Health (MoH) urged families to be vigilant about the excessive use of electronic devices among children during the summer break. It said that such behaviour may signal early signs of digital addiction. In an awareness poster on its official X platform, the MoH listed several behavioural indicators that could point to unhealthy dependence on screens, including frequent mood swings, neglect of social or academic life, and reduced interest in offline activities. Among the most notable warning signs are excessive use of electronic devices, lack of self-control over screen time, and compulsive checking of text messages or notifications, MoH affirmed. The ministry noted that affected individuals may exhibit withdrawal symptom like as anxiety, irritability, or Danger, when not using electronic devices. Other red flags include persistent sleep disturbances, signs of depression, and ongoing stress. The ministry added that children may lose interest in everything unrelated to the internet. Speaking about this issue, Shamsa al Siyabi, a mother of two, said her five-year-old daughter had become addicted to YouTube. However, after following advice to remove the phone from her child's reach, she observed a significant improvement in her daughter's erratic behaviour. Meanwhile, the ministry stressed the importance of balanced digital habits and encouraged parents to actively monitor screen time and promote alternative, non-digital activities to support the healthy development of children. The ministry seeks to promote mental well-being and responsible technology use during school vacations.
