Reims clung on for a 2-1 victory at fourth-division Cannes on Wednesday to set up a French Cup final meeting with holders Paris Saint-Germain in May.
Cannes were looking to become the first fourth-tier club to reach the final since Calais lost to Nantes in the 2000 showpiece, but came up just short.

Instead Ligue 1 side Reims moved to within one win of lifting their first major trophy since the 1991 French League Cup.
They will face PSG, who came from two goals down to defeat second-tier Dunkerque 4-2 on Tuesday, at the Stade de France on May 24.
Reims took a 14th-minute lead when Mamadou Diakhon powered to the byline and pulled the ball back for his fellow 19-year-old Hafiz Ibrahim to turn the ball into an empty net.
Cannes pushed forward in search of an equaliser but almost fell two goals down before the half-hour mark when Reims countered from a corner, but Keito Nakamura could only drag his shot narrowly wide.

The hosts were dreaming of the final, though, when captain Cheikh N'Doye levelled seven minutes after half-time.
The 39-year-old former Senegal midfielder rose highest at the back post to head home Cedric Goncalves' corner.
But Reims restored their advantage before the hour mark, Ibrahim teeing up substitute Teddy Teuma to score.
Cannes piled on the pressure, but Reims held on to keep their hopes of a third French Cup title, and first since 1958, alive.

Mamadou Sarr: Chelsea confirm third transfer of summer window as £12m deal finalised for defender to sign

Done deal: Mamadou Sarr has finalised his move to Chelsea (AFP via Getty Images) Chelsea have confirmed the signing of Mamadou Sarr from Strasbourg. An £12m deal was struck between the two clubs in the January transfer window, but now the move has officially been finalised as Sarr becomes the Blues' third signing of the summer after Dario Essugo and Liam Delap. Advertisement Sarr, 19, joins following a breakthrough season with Strasbourg as he made 28 appearances across all competitions, helping the Ligue 1 side qualify for the UEFA Conference League play-off in the process. The defender has put pen to paper on a contract that will keep him at Stamford Bridge until 2033. With no suggestion of being loaned out straight away, Sarr could make his Chelsea debut in the very near future as he's likely to be part of Enzo Maresca's plans for the Club World Cup tournament that gets underway later this week. Liam Rosenior, the current head coach of Strasbourg has provided a glowing assessment of Sarr to excite Chelsea supporters about this signing. Advertisement He said: 'I could talk about him for hours. His nickname is Mamadou Rosenior, he's my son. It's scary to show such performances at 19 with such calm in the face of such strong teams. He just has to stay humble and calm and he will be a top player for sure. 'His temperament, his athleticism, his ability on the ball… he's got everything you need to be a world-class centre-half.'

Report: Sunderland smash transfer record for Strasbourg midfield talent

Sunderland Break Transfer Record to Land Strasbourg Star Sunderland have completed what is understood to be a club-record £30 million transfer for Strasbourg midfielder, as the Wearside club continues to reshape its squad for a return to Premier League football. The 21-year-old signs a five-year contract, following a breakthrough campaign in Ligue 1 that saw him help his side to European qualification. Advertisement This high-profile acquisition marks Sunderland's second signing of the summer and is being viewed as a direct replacement for Jobe Bellingham, who departed for Borussia Dortmund last month in a deal potentially rising to £30 million. Big Statement from Sunderland Ahead of Premier League Return The move signals clear intent from Sunderland's hierarchy to not merely survive, but to compete, in their first top-flight campaign since 2016–17. Their latest signing was instrumental in Strasbourg's impressive seventh-place finish in Ligue 1 last season, making 31 appearances across all competitions. Advertisement Crucially, Strasbourg's campaign culminated in European qualification for only the second time in two decades, underlining the player's growing stature on the continent. His performance levels also earned international attention, including a standout moment in June when he found the net in a friendly against England at the City Ground. Speaking after completing his switch to Wearside, he said: 'I'm happy and excited to become a Black Cat and I can't wait to discover the Stadium of Light and its fans. Everyone saw last season's success and I guarantee that I'll give everything for this team and fight for these colours in the Premier League. I'm ready for this challenge and I can't wait to get started.' Midfield Reinforcements Taking Shape Sunderland's recruitment drive has been swift and calculated. Earlier this window, they secured the permanent signing of Enzo Le Fée, following a successful loan spell from Roma. His retention adds further depth to a midfield that now boasts versatility, energy, and creativity heading into a demanding Premier League schedule. Advertisement Replacing Bellingham was always going to require a major investment and the club believes this new addition will offer both immediate impact and long-term value. The reported fee not only reflects the midfielder's growing reputation but also the Premier League's increasingly competitive market for emerging European talent. Strasbourg's Rising Profile Boosted by Premier League Sale Strasbourg continue to cement their reputation as a breeding ground for young talent, with this transfer the latest example of their successful player development model. The club's ability to secure European football last season will only enhance its attractiveness to future prospects. Their latest export's Premier League switch underscores the cross-channel scouting networks now in play and Sunderland's ambition to tap into high-upside talent early. With more moves expected on both sides of the channel this summer, the early signs suggest Sunderland's return to the top flight will be more than just about survival.

Barcelona stars Gavi, Balde & more send messages to departing teammate

Several members of the first-team ranks at La Liga champions Barcelona have taken to social media this week, to send messages of well wishes to now-former teammate Ansu Fati. This, of course, comes after the 22-year-old finally sealed his long-awaited latest departure from the Camp Nou. Advertisement Following another hugely underwhelming campaign all told in 2024/25, wide-man Ansu had for some time now been expected to take his talents elsewhere for the season ahead. In turn, it came as little surprise when, on Tuesday, confirmation of as much was forthcoming online. The Spaniard has made the move to Ligue 1, to line out for AS Monaco on loan for the 2025/26 term. And as alluded to above, a number of leading members of Hansi Flick's squad have since taken to social media, to respond to their teammate's exit. Alejandro Balde, for one, posted to his official Instagram account, wishing Ansu 'good luck' at the Stade Louis II: Ronald Araújo then followed suit with a message of his own, writing: Advertisement 'Let's go all out, man, you're the best.' And adding his name to Ansu's list of well wishers a short time later was close friend Gavi, who wrote on Instagram: 'Love you, brother' Conor Laird – GSFN
