The Pinstripes were up 7-4 against divisional rivals the Tampa Bay Rays in the fifth inning when a rain delay was called at around 2:40pm ET.
As of an hour later, the team had no further updates on when play could resume as the torrential downpour continued to plummet New York City and surrounding areas.
The suspension came amid warnings from meteorologists that up to seven inches of rain could fall through the evening.

August 2 - Brenton Doyle capped a five-run ninth inning with a two-run home run, and the Colorado Rockies rallied after giving up nine runs in the first to beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 17-16 on Friday night in Denver. Hunter Goodman also went deep in the ninth, Warming Bernabel had four hits -- including a three-run home run and his first career triple -- and Ezequiel Tovar tied a franchise record with four doubles for Colorado. The Rockies trailed 16-12 entering the ninth but Goodman hit a one-out homer, his 20th of the year, to start the rally against Dennis Santana (3-3). Bernabel tripled to drive in Jordan Beck and then scored on Thairo Estrada's single. Doyle followed with the first walk-off homer of his career and his fourth hit of the game. He sent an 0-1 slider 406 feet to left-center. Dugan Darnell (1-0), who made his major league debut with a scoreless eighth and ninth innings, got the victory for Colorado. For the Pirates, Oneil Cruz hit a grand slam, Andrew McCutchen homered and finished with three hits and five RBIs, Nick Gonzales had four hits and Bryan Reynolds and Isiah Kiner-Falefa finished with three hits apiece. Joey Bart walked four times and was hit by a pitch for the Pirates, who had their five-game winning streak snapped. Pittsburgh built a 9-0 lead in the first on Reynolds' RBI single, Cruz's grand slam and a three-run shot by McCutchen, after Kiner-Falefa's RBI single chased starter Antonio Senzatela. Senzatela allowed seven runs on eight hits and two walks after getting just two outs. The Rockies chipped away, scoring once in the first and closing within 9-4 on Bernabel's three-run homer in the third off starter Andrew Heaney, his third of the season. The Pirates scored three times in the fourth and fifth innings to extend the lead to 15-6, but Colorado answered in its half of the fifth. Doyle walked, Kyle Farmer singled and Mickey Moniak, Tyler Freeman and Tovar followed with doubles off reliever Thomas Harrington to make it 15-10. The Pirates added another run in the sixth when Jimmy Herget hit Bart to drive in McCutchen. Richardson arrested for domestic violence in Seattle, report says
Aug 2 (Reuters) - Reigning 100 metres world champion Sha'Carri Richardson was arrested for domestic violence at a Settle airport four days before the start of the US Track & Field Championships, USA TODAY Sports reported on Friday. The 25-year-old, who won Olympic silver in the 100 at the Paris Games, allegedly pushed her male companion who then fell into a nearby column after an argument, according to a police report obtained by USA TODAY Sports. The report said she was detained on the evening of July 27 and released the following day. Reuters has contacted Port of Seattle Police Department, Richardson's agent and US Track & Field for comment. Richardson withdrew from the 100 semi-finals in Eugene, Oregon on Friday after participating in Thursday's heats. She is guaranteed a spot in the 100 at the world championships in September due to her win at Budapest in 2023.

Nick Pivetta deals, new-look Padres beat the Cardinals
August 2 - Nick Pivetta allowed just one hit in seven innings and Jackson Merrill capped a four-run fifth inning with a two-run single as the San Diego Padres beat the visiting St. Louis Cardinals 4-1 for their sixth straight win Friday night. Pivetta (11-3) improved to 7-0 at Petco Park this season, walking none and striking out five as he lowered his earned run average to 2.73. New acquisition Mason Miller pitched a scoreless eighth and MLB saves leader Robert Suarez worked the ninth for his 31st save in 35 chances. Matthew Liberatore (6-9) matched Pivetta pitch-for-pitch for four innings and even got a 1-0 lead when Willson Contreras cracked his 15th homer of the year to start the top of the fifth. Contreras jumped on a fastball down the middle and launched it an estimated 398 feet to the seats in left-center. But San Diego took advantage of shaky defense to crack the code in its half of the fifth. After Jake Cronenworth walked with one out, Jose Iglesias' slow roller to third became two errors and a run. Nolan Gorman's wild throw to first was worth two bases and Contreras' inaccurate heave to third cashed Cronenworth in. Elias Diaz looped an RBI single to left-center for the go-ahead run.
