Mirza, Farhan star in Pakistan win but Bangladesh take T20 series

Paceman Salman Mirza grabbed three wickets and opener Sahibzada Farhan struck an aggressive fifty in Pakistan's consolation 74-run win in the third T20 on Thursday as Bangladesh took the series 2-1.
Mirza, playing only his third international, demolished Bangladesh's top order with figures of 3-19 as the home team was bowled out for 104 in 16.4 overs in Dhaka.
Farhan's 41-ball 63 studded with five sixes and six fours got Pakistan off to a strong start and Hasan Nawaz clubbed 33 off 17 balls to help them to 178-7 after they were sent in to bat.

Mirza struck with the second ball of the innings, dismissing Tanzid Hassan caught behind for nought which triggered a batting collapse. Only Mohammad Saifuddin contributed a score of note as he made an unbeaten 35.
Mohammad Naim (10) was the only other Bangladesh batsman to reach double figures.
Seamer Faheem Ashraf took 2-13 and Mohammad Nawaz wrapped up the win with the final two wickets.
Having already won their first-ever T20 series against Pakistan with victories in the first two matches, Bangladesh rested five of their main players including spearhead Mustafizur Rahman.
Pakistan had scored 110 and 125 in the first two matches -- also in Dhaka -- losing by seven wickets and eight runs respectively.

Farhan, who replaced Fakhar Zaman as one of two changes for Pakistan, put on 82 for the opening stand with Saim Ayub (21).
Farhan fell in the 12th over to spinner Nasum Ahmed who finished with 2-22 in his four overs. Pace bowler Taskin Ahmed took 3-38.
Mohammad Nawaz chipped in with 27 off 16 balls down the order to help Pakistan add 46 runs in the last five overs.

Pak to take on WI in T20I series

Photo: AFP Pakistan are all set to take on West Indies in the eighth bilateral T20I series between the two teams after they first faced each other in April 2011 in the T20 format. The three T20Is, beginning on Thursday, 31 July (1 August, 5am Pakistan time) at the Central Broward Park & Broward County Stadium in Florida is the first meeting between the two teams in T20Is since December 2021. The second and third T20I are scheduled to take place on 2 and 3 August at the same venue with the first ball slated to be bowled at 8pm local time (3 and 4 August, 5am Pakistan time). Pakistan will take the field in Lauderhill, a venue that has played host to 12 ODIs and 17 T20Is since May 2010, for the second time after beating Ireland by three wickets in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. Overall Pakistan have won 15 of the 21 T20Is played between the two teams with hosts winning three and as many ending in no result. Both the teams will be looking to make amends to their recent most T20I series results after visitors conceded 2-1 to Bangladesh and hosts 5-0 to Australia. Pakistan arrived in Lauderhill on Monday, 28 July and took part in two intensive training sessions. Haris Rauf, Hasan Ali and Shaheen Shah Afridi have returned to the T20I squad. Swiatek, seeded second in her first tournament since her crushing victory over Amanda Anisimova in the Wimbledon final, breezed past Chinese qualifier Guo Hanyu 6-3, 6-1, breaking Guo's serve six times. Her untroubled tournament opener followed Osaka's battling victory over Samsonova. The four-time Grand Slam champion from Japan saved back-to-back match points in the 10th game of the second set, and trailed 5-2 in the second-set tiebreaker on the way to a 4-6, 7-6 (8/6), 6-3 triumph. Raducanu reaches third round British number one Emma Raducanu continued her impressive build-up to the US Open with a commanding straight-sets victory over American Peyton Stearns, winning 6-2, 6-4 to book her place in the third round of the Canadian Open at Court Rogers on Wednesday. The 22-year-old, currently ranked World number 33, produced a strong all-round performance to extend her perfect record against Stearns, securing her third win in as many meetings between the pair. Raducanu now sets up a mouth-watering clash with Wimbledon runner up Amanda Anisimova, who overcame New Zealand's Lulu Sun 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) earlier in the day. Raducanu started the match in commanding fashion, taking charge of the opening set by breaking Stearns twice before sealing the set on her sixth set point. The Briton displayed precise shot-making and composure from the baseline, frustrating her opponent with deep returns and clever variation. The second set offered more drama as Raducanu found herself trailing 4-2 after conceding a break. However, she responded brilliantly, reeling off four consecutive games with aggressive returns and confident service games to close out the contest in one hour and 35 minutes. Reflecting on her performance, Raducanu admitted she briefly lost focus but was pleased to regain control. "I'm really happy with how I came through in that match. I kind of lost my focus at some moments in the second set and she took advantage, but I'm very happy that I came through against a top opponent and happy to extend my stay in Montreal," Raducanu said.
