A Frontier Airlines plane appeared to lose a wheel after a "hard landing" in San Juan on Tuesday.
One passenger told a Puerto Rican newspaper they were left "traumatized" by the incident.
Frontier said it had offered passengers $500 vouchers and refunds for the flight.
Frontier Airlines said it had offered $500 vouchers and refunds to passengers following what it called a "hard landing" in Puerto Rico on Tuesday night.
Flight 3506 from Orlando briefly touched down at San Juan's Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport before pilots performed a go-around due to an apparent mechanical issue.
Flight tracking data showed that the two-year-old Airbus A321neo then circled over San Juan several times before finally landing.
It returned for a second approach and landed safely at about 10:20 p.m. local time, the Federal Aviation Administration said in a statement.
"Passengers deplaned on the taxiway and were bused to the terminal," the FAA added.
Frontier said in a statement there were no injuries to passengers or crew, and that the incident was under investigation.
Video circulating on social media appeared to show a fire around the plane's wing as it came into land. An image of the aircraft on the tarmac also appears to show it missing a nose wheel.
"The problem was when we landed. When the pilot went to land, the drop was dramatic," Melani González Wharton, who said she was a passenger on the flight, told Puerto Rican newspaper El Nuevo Día.
"When we touched down, it was so strong that we jumped," she said. "The tire at the front of the plane broke. I don't know if the tire hit the left engine, which was where I was sitting. It sparked, and fire started to come out."
González Wharton added: "Inside, we were crying, children were shouting, people were praying. It was an unforgettable, horrible experience. I'm traumatized."

Frontier Airlines Adds 15 New Routes for Fall to Cities Like Charleston, Denver, and Chicago—and Fares Start at Just $29

A fall or winter getaway just got cheaper. Starting Oct. 7, low-cost carrier Frontier Airlines is expanding its network with 15 different routes, according to the airline. Best of all, Frontier is celebrating with introductory fares as low as $29. 'With new destinations in Texas and Virginia, our return to Tulsa, Oklahoma, and new routes between several of our top cities, now is a better time than ever for consumers to give Frontier a try and experience the comfort, convenience and savings we are known for," Frontier Airlines Vice President of Network and Operations Design Josh Flyr said in a statement, adding "consumers will have even more affordable flight options to choose from as they plan their travel through 2025 and into the new year." For travelers on the East Coast, Frontier will begin a new service connecting New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) to both Denver International Airport (DEN) and Chicago O'Hare International Airport (ORD) on Oct. 8. The airline will also begin a new route between Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) and Chicago Midway International Airport (MDW) on Oct. 7. On the West Coast, the airline will begin new service between Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX) and San Antonio International Airport (SAT) on Oct. 10, and between Tucson International Airport (TUS) and Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) on Oct. 9. Other new routes include service between Denver and Corpus Christi International Airport (CRP), and service from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) to Omaha's Eppley Airfield (OMA) and Virginia's Richmond International Airport (RIC). Travelers looking to explore one of the top cities in the United States are in luck since Frontier will begin new service twice per week from Dallas to Charleston on Oct. 9. The South Carolina city was recently ranked as a favorite in the 2025 World's Best Awards by Travel + Leisure readers. To take advantage of Frontier's $29 introductory fares, travelers must book by 11:59 p.m. ET on July 28 and travel on select days of the week between Oct. 7 and Dec. 18. The discounted travel is not valid during blackout dates from Nov. 21 to 26, Nov. 28 to 30, or Dec. 1 to 2, according to the airline. Frontier is not alone in its expansion efforts. From coast to coast, major carriers have been on the move. Fellow low-cost carrier Spirit Airlines, for example, recently announced a new flight to Key West, FL, from Fort Lauderdale, and American Airlines is expanding in time for the winter holiday season with new routes planned throughout Mexico and the Caribbean.

New routes from Spirit and Frontier

Spirit Airlines will connect Fort Lauderdale with Key West. Meanwhile, discount competitor Frontier Airlines will enter Richmond, Va., Corpus Christi, Texas, and Tulsa, Okla. The flights to and from Fort Lauderdale will be Spirit's first to the Texas city. They'll operate four-times weekly beginning Nov. 6, then switch to daily on Dec. 18. Spirit will be the lone carrier flying between Fort Lauderdale and Key West. Florida regional airline Silver Airways serviced the route before ceasing operations last month. Travelers instead often drive to Key West from Fort Lauderdale, a journey of approximately four hours. Spirit is marketing the new route to connecting travelers. A company press release touted easy connections to Key West via Fort Lauderdale from Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Detroit, Houston, New York and Philadelphia. Frontier's new routes from Denver home base Frontier's home base of Denver will be the focal point of service from the carrier's three new destinations. Flights connecting Corpus Christi with Denver will operate twice weekly beginning Oct. 9. Flights between Richmond and Denver will operate twice weekly beginning Oct. 19. The airline will also connect Richmond to Atlanta twice weekly beginning Oct. 17. Tulsa-Denver service will be twice weekly starting Oct. 12. Frontier previously served as many as five cities from Tulsa, Cirium flight schedule data shows, but hasn't flown there since suspending Denver service in March 2022. Frontier will compete against United and Southwest on both Denver-Richmond and Denver-Tulsa. It will be the lone carrier connecting Denver and Corpus Christi.
