Rare album of Victorian Broads life sells for £52k
The copy of "Life and Landscape on the Norfolk Broads" - by the pioneering Victorian photographer Peter Henry Emerson and artist Thomas Frederick Goodall - exceeded its £50,000 estimate.
The first edition contains 40 platinum prints of images of rural life in Norfolk and is only one of 25 copies every made.
An anonymous buyer from Suffolk said they were a fan of Emerson and the way he captured images of a "bygone way of life".
The book was put up for sale after being found in a cupboard in a house in Maryland, US.
The anonymous seller said their grandparents had been keen "yard salers" and probably only paid a few dollars for it.
The anonymous buyer from Suffolk said they already owned several Emerson works.
They said "It's a piece of Anglian heritage, yet Emerson had a strikingly modern aesthetic sensibility.
"He captured a bygone way of life, but his interpretation feels timeless."
It was sold in London by Roseberys auctioneer Jack Wallis.
He said he was pleased the book was coming back to the East of England after many years in the US.
Mr Wallis said: "I hope it's appreciated by generations of East Anglians to come".
Emerson (1856–1936) was born in Cuba and raised partly in America, before settling in England.
He is credited with elevating the new technology of photography to an artform, often focusing on the everyday life of people in East Anglia.
He met his co-author and fellow artist Goodall (1856-1944) on a trip to the Broads and the idea for the book was devised.

Oasis Has Cheeky, Expletive-Laden Message For Fans After Viral Coldplay Cheating Scandal
Oasis wants even its romantically unfaithful fans to have a good time at its concerts. The British rock band is on tour for the first time since 2009 but has clearly adapted to the times — and joked onstage Sunday in Manchester, England, about the married CEO who was caught cozying up to a co-worker last week during a Coldplay concert. 'Do we have any lovebirds in the house?' frontman Liam Gallagher asked the crowd. 'Don't worry, we ain't got any of that Coldplay, snidey fucking camera shit. It doesn't matter to us who you're fucking mingling with or tingling with or fingering with.' 'None of our fucking business,' he continued. Coldplay singer Chris Martin didn't seem to intend to make it his business when the kiss cam at his concert Wednesday in Massachusetts caught Andy Byron, the CEO of data operations startup Astronomer, holding his head of human resources, Kristin Cabot. The duo scrambled to hide from the camera, only for the footage to go viral and expose them. Astronomer announced Friday that it had launched an investigation into the matter and confirmed Saturday that Byron, a married family man, had resigned. 'Our leaders are expected to set the standard in both conduct and accountability, and recently, that standard was not met,' Astronomer announced in a statement at the time. 'Andy Byron has tendered his resignation, and the Board of Directors has accepted.' The company added that it will now begin searching for Byron's permanent replacement. Oasis appears to have had a much smoother summer, as Liam and his brother Noel Gallagher put their yearslong feud to rest for 'The Oasis Live '25' tour. The highly anticipated reunion will span the globe — and has been sold out for months. During their first show in Cardiff, England, the siblings walked onstage hand in hand to the audible delight of fans who never imagined they'd see the day. Related... Woman doing makeup left angry after man says 'worst thing ever'
A woman caught the moment a 'rude' stranger branded her 'Donald Trump' due to her makeup. Lilly Whitfield was doing her makeup while sitting in a park in Wimbledon, London, when she was approached by a brazen stranger. The 23-year-old content creator was filming herself apply her makeup when an older man strolled over to comment on the shade of her skin. In the footage, the stranger is heard saying 'you're as orange as Donald Trump' to an aghast Lilly who quickly responds with 'that's a bit rude'. Shocked, Lilly goes on to berate the stranger, adding 'if you've not got anything nice to say, I wouldn't really recommend saying anything'. Lilly, who admits using fake tan on a weekly basis, says being compared to the US President - known for his distinctly orange skin colour - is the 'worst thing anyone can say'. Now, Lilly is condemning men who consider approaching young women for the sole purpose of making derogatory comments. Lilly, who lives in Clapham, London, said: "[I was] getting ready. I did have a little tripod to film me doing my makeup. People around us were kind of looking at me as I was filming myself. It doesn't really bother me, no one said anything. I was sitting down doing my makeup, then this old man in his late-60s or 70s came over looking very disheveled. "I saw him pointing at me and I said 'hi, you okay?'. Then he said 'you look as orange as Donald Trump'. I felt quite taken aback by it. I was quite shocked. I thought he was just going to ask why I was filming. "Obviously I am quite tanned. I do fake tan every week. But I wouldn't say my colour is that offensive. Maybe it's a case of the old generation don't really understand it. I just said to him 'if you haven't got anything nice to say, I'd recommend not saying anything'. "I thought it was just rude and I could tell he felt really awkward. He changed the subject and started talking about something very random. He walked off after that. It was just really odd and uncalled for. I don't understand why he thought it was okay to make that comment." The interaction outside Wimbledon, which amassed more than 1.5 million views on TikTok, divided opinion online. One person said: "It was entirely unwarranted from a complete stranger. He wasn't trying to help her, he openly admitted he was just trying to be mean which is so weird to go out your way to do to someone you don't even know." Another added: "Why do men think they can have an opinion?" A third said: "I unfortunately see where he is coming from. Your hands and face look quite warm, kind of orange." A fourth said: "He's not wrong though." However, Lilly insists others should 'mind their own business' before commenting on people's appearances. Lilly said: "I'm just going to take it on the chin. You can't let it get to you. People already have an opinion on you. "I was just minding my own business. It was literally 6am. It wouldn't make me change my makeup. No one's ever said that to me before, I've only ever had compliments. I know I'm not tanned to the point where it's offensive. "Don't speak unless spoken to. They should mind their own business. If you're a man making derogatory comments, especially speaking to a young woman, just read the room."
