Nobody ever wants to think about the possibility that they could be involved in a plane crash. However, while it's extremely unlikely, it is at least a possibility, and one expert has recently given some advice that could prove the difference between life and death in the event of an emergency. During a recent interview with The Mirror, Aviation safety expert Christine Negroni offered a pretty major warning to passengers about the type of clothing they choose to wear on an airplane. Negroni warned passengers against wearing clothing made from tight, synthetic materials such as leggings or jogger pants. The reason, she explained, is that in the event of a fire, those materials could melt and cause "serious burns." 'You have a tight garment that is usually made from synthetic fibres, from petroleum products,' Negroni told The Mirror. 'If there's a fire, that fabric can melt on your skin and cause serious burns.' Negroni explained that in many crashes and emergency situations, the impact of the crash itself isn't usually the biggest threat –it's what happens afterwards as survivors try to escape the flames of the burning jet fuel. 'In those cases, your biggest risk is not necessarily the impact but that something's going to happen to the integrity of the aircraft, resulting in a fire because of the fuel on board,' she explained. Wearing tight clothing made from synthetic materials could put you at risk in those situations. 'In other words, if you're not injured by the impact but your clothes melt to your body, you may still be unable to escape,' she continued. The best thing that you can wear on a plane in the event of an emergency is loose-fitting clothing made from natural fibers like cotton or linen. These materials will burn quickly instead of melting onto your skin, potentially saving you from serious burns and possibly even saving your life altogether.
