Dehradun (Uttarakhand) [India], July 13 (ANI): Following the directives of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, the distribution of cartons has commenced to provide a distinctive identity to the apples cultivated in Uttarakhand.
This initiative aims to benefit apple producers in the Uttarkashi and Dehradun districts while enhancing the packaging standards of the apples, as stated in the official release.
The Chief Minister stated that Uttarakhand offers immense possibilities for organic farming and horticulture. A policy has been formulated for the proper development of horticulture in the state, and the government is continuously promoting this sector. The state government is particularly encouraging apple cultivation in horticulture.
He said that the government is continuously working towards apple production in the state and to ensure a fair price for apples to the apple-producing farmers. Work has been done to give a unique identity to the apples produced in Uttarakhand by selling the apple product of the farmers in the Uttarakhand brand Universal Carton / Corrugated Fibre Board Box (CFB) with Apple Tray.
According to the release, to provide higher prices to farmers for their produce, the work of distributing produce among farmers through Horticulture Mobile Squad Centres has been initiated. This involves providing 3.85 lakh Universal Cartons to farmers in Uttarkashi district and 0.75 lakh Universal Cartons to farmers in Dehradun district, both of which are in demand. These cartons are being supplied to the listed firms/companies.
The farmers and apple producers of the state will now receive higher prices for their produce by obtaining Universal Cartons on a 50% subsidy under the Uttar Fasal Prabandhan Yojana, a state sector initiative run by the Horticulture and Food Processing Department.
Along with this, they will be able to provide their important support in giving a unique identity to the apple produce of Uttarakhand. (ANI)

Oil prices gain on geopolitical risks, inventory worries
Oil prices rose on Thursday, even as global trade tensions appeared to cool, while analysts pointed to low inventories and renewed Middle East risks as factors which were supporting the market. Brent crude futures were up 17 cents, or around 0.3%, to $68.69 a barrel at 1050 GMT. U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude futures were up 35 cents, or 0.5%, at $66.73. U.S. President Donald Trump has said letters notifying smaller countries of their U.S. tariff rates would go out soon, and has also alluded to prospects of a deal with Beijing on illicit drugs and a possible agreement with the European Union. "Near-term prices (are) set to remain volatile due to the uncertainty over the final scale of U.S. tariffs and the resultant impact on global growth," said Ashley Kelty, an analyst at Panmure Liberum, adding that prices would likely settle lower in the medium term. The oil market on Thursday was also reacting to a tightened inventory scenario, said John Evans, analyst at PVM Oil Associates. Last week, the International Energy Agency said that oil output increases were not leading to higher inventories, which showed markets were thirsty for more oil. "Oil thinking has been distracted from the Middle East, and the reminders of Israel's attacks into Syria and the drone attacks on oil infrastructure in Kurdistan are timely and once again add a little fizz to proceedings," Evans said. Drone attacks on oilfields in Iraq's semi-autonomous Kurdistan region have slashed crude output by up to 150,000 barrels per day, two energy officials said on Wednesday, as infrastructure damage forced multiple shutdowns. "For now, oil market indicators continue to suggest the physical market remains tight. But ongoing trade tensions could weigh on oil demand growth prospects and pose downside risks to prices," said UBS commodities analyst Giovanni Staunovo.

‘Securing Energy Needs Is Our Priority': India On NATO Chief's Warning For Buying Russian Oil
Last Updated: India responded to NATO's warning of sanctions for buying Russian oil, stressing India's priority to secure energy needs and warning against double standards. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Thursday responded to NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte's stark warning that India could face 'severe secondary sanctions" for buying Russian oil, saying that securing energy needs is an overriding priority for New Delhi. The ministry further said that New Delhi is guided by what is on offer in the markets, and by the prevailing global circumstances. It further said that India will particularly caution against any double standards on the matter. 'We have seen reports on the subject and are closely following the developments. Let me reiterate that securing energy needs of our people is understandably an overriding priority for us. In this endeavor, we are guided by what is on offer in the markets, and by the prevailing global circumstances. We would particularly caution against any double standards on the matter," MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said while addressing the press briefing. #WATCH | Delhi | On Nato chief Mark Rutte's comment that countries buying Russian oil could face secondary sanctions, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal says, 'We have seen reports on the subject and are closely following the developments. Let me reiterate that securing the energy… — ANI (@ANI) July 17, 2025 The MEA's response came a day after NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte warned India along with Brazil and China about buying Russian oil, cautioning that they could face severe secondary sanctions and penalties if they continue doing business with Moscow. While speaking to reporters after meeting US senators on Wednesday, Rutte urged leaders in Delhi, Beijing and Brasilia to press Russian President Vladimir Putin to take peace negotiations seriously. His remarks came a day after US President Donald Trump unveiled a new weapons package for Ukraine and threatened 'biting" secondary tariffs of 100% on buyers of Russian exports unless a peace agreement is reached within 50 days. 'My encouragement to these three countries, particularly is, if you live now in Beijing, or in Delhi, or you are the president of Brazil, you might want to take a look into this, because this might hit you very hard," Rutte told reporters. He had met with Trump on Monday and endorsed the new measures. 'So please make the phone call to Vladimir Putin and tell him that he has to get serious about peace talks, because otherwise this will slam back on Brazil, on India and on China in a massive way," he added. Since the Russia-Ukraine war in February 2022, India has ramped up the purchase of discounted Russian oil. As Russian energy exports are central to the country's economy, and Putin's war-waging capabilities, many Western leaders and commentators have frequently criticised India. view comments Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
