Ireland's uncapped 13
Tom Ahern has been recognised by O'Connell after an impressive season with Munster, during which he made 19 appearances including five off the bench in the Champions Cup.
The 25-year-old lock made his Munster debut in 2020, has earned 65 caps and was part of the 2022-23 United Rugby Championship title-winning squad. In 2023-24, he scored eight tries in 23 outings.

Ahern, from County Waterford, featured for the Ireland under-20s during the 2019 World Rugby Under-20 Championship and was part of the 2022 Emerging Ireland tour of South Africa.
At under-20 level, he also helped Ireland win the Triple Crown during the Covid-hit 2020 Six Nations.
While his progress has been hindered by injuries, he has long been on the radar of Ireland's senior coaching staff. Invited to train with the squad during the 2021 autumn Tests and the past couple of Six Nations campaigns, Ahern hopes to finally earn his first senior international cap.
Capable of playing in the second and back rows, the 6ft 9in forward could learn a great deal under O'Connell, another totemic second row to have emerged from Munster.
He was nursing a hamstring injury but was passed fit on Tuesday.

(Photo by) After a well-fought two sets against Australian Rinky Hijikata, Ben Shelton was one game away from advancing to the third round of Wimbledon. But instead, he'll have to wait until tomorrow to finish the job. Shelton and Hijikata's second round match was suspended at 9:29 p.m. local time due to darkness, as the sun had set about 10 minutes earlier. At the time that officials called the match, Shelton was leading Hijikata 6-2, 7-5, 5-4 — one game from a straight set victory. Advertisement Shelton was understandably unhappy after the call, speaking heatedly with the officials as Hijikata exited the court. The crowd had a strong reaction as well, booing the ruling and seeming to chant "one more game." Part of Shelton's frustration was that, as the sun went down, both players had broached the idea of suspending the match earlier in the game, but the officials had told them to play on. The match took place at No. 2 Court, which has no roof or stadium lighting. Due to scheduling, Shelton and Hijikata did not start playing until after 7 p.m. local time. The court had four other matches take place prior to theirs, with one of the men's matches taking nearly three hours and the second lasting two and a half. Advertisement Shelton did have the chance to lock up victory prior to the officials' call: The 22-year-old American went up 40-0 in what could have been the match-winning game, before dropping five straight points to Hijikata. As a result, Hijikata took the win to bring the set to 5-4 — and force it into a second day. Shelton, ranked No. 10, is one of the top two American men remaining in the tournament.

Former Gunner returns to the club in training
Former Arsenal academy goalkeeper Remy Mitchell was back with the club in training this week, almost three years after his official departure. Photo via The Arsenal u18s returned to training this week, but one unexpected face among the group was former academy goalkeeper Remy Mitchell. Advertisement Mitchell departed for Swansea City in 2022, after coming to the end of his Arsenal contract, but he's evidently been given permission to train with his old club this summer. The 21-year-old's presence shouldn't be taken as a sign that he's returning to Arsenal for good, given he's too old to play competitive fixtures with the u18 side. But he's there to help out his old team and get a training session or two in for his own fitness. Photo via Mitchell spent most of the 2024/25 campaign playing for Haringey Borough in the Isthmian League North Division, the eighth tier of English football. The goalkeeper went on loan to Aylesbury United last November, playing three matches as cover for the suspended Jack Hopwood. But after that spell was up, the youngster returned to Haringey for the remainder of the season.
