Four-way tie for the lead
Overnight leader Christiaan Bezuidenhout nearly pushed his opening tee shot out of bounds on the first hole at Royal Portrush and that precedes an opening bogey for the South African, a thick lie in the rough off that tee shot meaning he can only hack it short of the green and then he fails to make up-and-down, leaving his putt both short and left. Bezuidenhout drops to -3.
And then there were four. At four. Under, that is.

The fifth green is on
Rickie Fowler and amateur Ethan Fang, who's -2 for his opening four and +2 for the week - have both smashed their drives onto the middle of the green at the 382-yard, downhill par four. The breeze is behind again there today - making it an exciting place to watch.

Who to watch early on Friday
If you're just arriving at the course for Friday's play, there are plenty of big names out there. Rickie Fowler is out playing the picturesque fifth. He's one over par for the day - one under for the week - after bogey on the par three third. And Garcia is in the group behind on four, having returned to level par for the week with a bounce back birdie at the second. Following them is Matt Wallace, Matt Wallace, opening his day with two pars to stay +2.

Sure Portrush is easy
There's a whopping FIVE players under-par this morning in the nine groups on the course (for those struggling with the maths, that's 27 players).
Amateur champion Ethan Fang is the best on the course right now as he's put together back-to-back birdies at the second and third to reach two-under for the day and back to two-over for the tournament.

Player slates opening round time management
Scottish player Daniel Young finished late last night in front of a handful of fans left in the grandstand, watching on in the dusk. There was even a Scottish flag draped over the edge of the stand for his arrival at the green. But it all coming almost six hours after he teed off at the first, left him ticked off as he signed for a four over 75.
He said: "There was another group behind us as well. I think it's one of those where they just want your round. When it's taking six hours as well, it's pretty rough. I don't know, there was no refs talking to anybody I think about pace of play and stuff, which is probably disappointing, why it's taking six hours I guess. It's one of those things. I don't know what to say. None of us saw any of the tee shots on 18 there. Yeah, there was nobody. Yeah, pretty disappointed, a bit deflated at the minute, to be honest."

Bring your umbrellas folks, it's going to be another wet one. Fortunately the weather is due to improve on Saturday and Sunday.

Tough start for Sergio
The Spaniard had got in and one under par yesterday but it's a nightmare opening hole as he cards a double bogey six to plunge the wrong side of par for the tournament. Again the problem was missing the fairway to the left. Then he found the troublesome front pot bunker and with the flag back left, it's a long shot out of the sand. He couldn't find the green from there, or get up and down with his chip. Half a dozen.

For Johnson, I mean. There have been bogeys elsewhere. The two-time Major winner drops a shot on the par-five second and returns to one-under-par.

First birdie of the day
It goes to former American Ryder Cup captain Zach Johnson, who picks up a shot on the par-four first and moves to -2, two back of the lead. We always see someone go low in the first couple of groups in any golf tournament - could the 2015 Open champion be that guy today?

It's not an on-course update for the Newtownabbey man, who opened with a one-over 72 in the first group on the course on Thursday and doesn't tee off until 11.26am today, but rather an off-the-course one as he did something rather special with Dogs Trust in Ballymena - check this out!

What does the cut line look like?
It's only the top-70 and ties who make it into the weekend at Royal Portrush and at the end of play on Thursday the 70th-placed player in the field was at +2.
The pin positions don't look to be as tricky today, so if I was to hazard a guess I would say the cut line will be around that mark or might creep up to +3. But we'll get a much better sense once we see how the course is playing.

We are under way!

Good morning!
Ready for some more?
We are back at Royal Portrush for the second round of The Open Championship with plenty of action to bring you over the course of the next 15 hours, with plenty of storylines to follow on the Dunluce Links in this morning wave!
Can Rory McIlroy (10.09am) go low and move up the leaderboard?
Can Bryson DeChambeau (9.47am) rebound from yesterday's 78 and potentially stick around for the weekend?
Will either Christiaan Bezuidenhout (8.36am) or Harris English (10.20am), the only two overnight leaders out early, set a low target for the later starters to reach?
Strap in, we're about to find out!

What Rory said after an opening one-under 70
On his round: "It was good. I had it going at three-under thru 10 and let a few slip there around the middle of the round. Steadied the ship and it was nice to shoot under par. Once we turned for home the wind picked up and it became more difficult. Tough enough day, so to shoot under par was great."
The support:"Absolutely incredible. I feel the support of the entire country out there which is an incredible position to be in but you also don't want to let them down. It feels better than six years ago. I'm surprised four under is leading, I thought someone would go out and shoot five or six under."
Difference on 1 tee this time:"I knew what to expect, it wasn't new to me but knowing what it was like was helpful. I didn't feel like I was walking into the unknown like last time, this time I had a better idea of what was coming to me."
Importance of the putt on 15:"It was a big putt, especially having bogeyed three of the last four at that point. It was a huge putt to keep the momentum I had and then playing the last three holes under par was great."

Cameron Melly leads Brigade's charge to stun Newbuildings

Melly top-scored with 121 from only 51 balls, a knock that saw him clear the ropes 12 times as well as hitting eight fours as Brigade racked up 317 for six. He shared a whirlwind stand of 110 in eight overs with Mark Hanna (31) in an all-out assault on the shell-shocked home attack. There were runs throughout the order with David Barr scoring 67 (12 fours) in a second wicket partnership of 111 with Adam McDaid, who made 61. Newbuildings had chased over 300 to beat Donemana on Saturday, but there was no repeat of those heroics as they were bowled out for 190. JP Millar and Scott Macbeth each took three wickets, with the latter getting the big fish — Peat Salmon. Johnny Thompson hit four sixes in a defiant 55, but the result was never in doubt. Donemana regained the Premiership lead with an emphatic eight-wicket win in an all-Tyrone clash at Strabane . Irish international Andy McBrine took four wickets as the Red Caps were skittled out for just 72 in a game reduced to 34 overs. There were wickets, too, for returning skipper Gary McClintock (three for 11) and Sri Lankan professional Anuj Jotin (two for 18), while Raymond Curry's unbeaten 20 eased Donemana to victory in the 16th over. Eglinton remain rooted to the bottom after a four-wicket loss at in-form Bready. Andy Millar hit seven fours in an excellent half century, while younger brother Jamie made 36, and there were twenties for Ryan Lamrock, Jack Martin and Lakshan Gamage in a total of 215 for six. Bready captain Ian Young led the way in the chase with an undefeated 62 (eight fours, one six), while there was also a half century for South African professional Josh van Heerden as the hosts won with two overs to spare.

Instonians thrash Cliftonville Academy to savour T20 Cup joy, while Bangor taste Trophy delight by sinking Cregagh

The win was set up by a trio of half-centuries from the top order that never allowed the CA bowling unit to settle. Irish internationals Neil Rock and Cade Carmichael (27) set the tone for the game with a 66-run opening stand inside the powerplay, ended only by a stunning catch by Alfie Wylie – a rare highlight in a slipshod display that saw four chances dropped. South African professional Shane Dadswell announced his arrival at the crease with a six over square leg, and he continued in that vein after Rock fell for an excellent 27-ball 52 (four fours, three sixes). Dadswell and the evergreen Andrew White scored all around the wicket in a third-wicket partnership of 84 in nine overs that all but settled the match. White unfurled his full repertoire of audacious sweeps and ramps on his way to a top score of 62 from 38 deliveries, while Dadswell's 31-ball 58 included six fours and three maximums. The stand was only ended by a run-out – one of three in the innings – but a total of 219 for six was always going to be a match-winning one. A brief shower meant a revised target of 184 in 16 overs, but Cliftonville Academy's reply never got going at all as Man of the Match Dadswell got three wickets in his first nine balls, including the prize scalp of Abhishek Raut. Jared Wilson (33) and Andrew Forbes (30 not out) added some respectability to the margin of defeat, but this was the most one-sided of contests. Cian Robertson picked up three wickets in a fine bowling effort, while there were two wickets apiece also for Andrew White and skipper Ben Rose. 'It was a great team performance all through the game,' said skipper Rose afterwards. 'The three guys batted really well and a total of 219 was great. 'Shane taking those three early wickets also gave us some breathing space. 'Whitey' was exceptional with both bat and ball and he continues to work hard and gets his rewards.' It's a big few weeks ahead for Rose and his team, who face Waringstown in a top-of-the-table clash followed by the Challenge Cup Final. Earlier, Bangor were also convincing winners in the T20 Trophy clash, beating Cregagh by 38 runs. Opener Sam McMillan led the way with a superb 62 (10 fours) as Bangor made a strong start batting first. Former New Zealand international Ian Butler struck three huge sixes in a nine-ball 21, well caught on the long-on boundary attempting a fourth. Australian professional Connor Brown stroked five boundaries in a breezy 30, adding 58 in seven overs with McMillan as Bangor continued to attack. There was also a late flurry as Johnny Parker and Michael Skelly added 22 from the last 10 balls in a final total of 166 for seven; Adam McCormick taking three wickets. The chase got off to a terrible start with both openers gone inside two overs. Bob Moore (37) and Jonny Moore (28) attempted to salvage the innings, but Bangor caught and fielded well and, in truth, Cregagh never threatened the target. Angus Farrell (two for 17) was the pick of the bowlers as Cregagh were restricted to 128 for seven. 'We have played some good T20 cricket now for three years with a good pattern and, hopefully, we can take that form into our League campaign for the rest of the season,' said a very happy Bangor captain Johnny Parker afterwards. 'I'm overjoyed for Sam McMillan to get runs and the Man of the Match award. It's a just reward for all the hard work he has put in as he's had a tough season finding strange ways to get out and also getting a few tough decisions. 'Our bowlers did really well, especially Angus Farrell and Will Simpson who squeezed them hardly conceding any boundaries. Angus in particular had a tremendous spell and really strangled the innings. 'It was great to have the runs on the board, and our bowling unit with pace off did superbly well.'

These are the top Scottish transfer stories, rumours and gossip on Monday morning, including the latest news from Rangers, Celtic, Hibs and the Scotland national team. Hibs dealt Triantis blow Hibs hopes of bringing Nectar Triantis back to Easter Road this summer are looking 'increasingly unlikely' according to a report from the Daily Record. A standout player for the capital outfit after joining on loan from Sunderland last summer, head coach David Gray is keen on reuniting with the 22-year-old midfielder, with Hibs seeking a permanent deal for Triantis. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Sunderland head coach Regis Le Bris had provided an update on the Aussie midfielder at the weekend, who was absent from the Black Cats squad in their 3-0 friendly defeat to Hearts at the weekend for Craig Gordon's testimonial. 'All I can say right now is that we are trying our best to improve the team,' said Le Bris. 'We will have to see what happens. If you look at the Hearts game, then it looks as though we are far away from where we need to be. That is clear. But at the same time, it is always a work in progress.' However, while Triantis may still leave the Stadium of Light this summer, the report claims the chances of him joining Hibs are growing slimmer by the day due to the player's 'significant wage increase' as a result of the Sunderland's promotion back to the English Premier League. Clubs in the EFL Championship, German Bundesliga and MLS are believed to be eyeing a move for the Australian. Sunderland defender Nectar Triantis is a wanted man this summer. | Chris Fryatt Scotland star 'opens talks' Motherwell wonderkid Lennon Miller is edging closer to the Fir Park exit door, according to a report from transfer guru Nicolò Schira. The teenager midfielder is in the final year of his contract, and has been linked with a move to Celtic, Sunderland and clubs in the German Bundesliga this summer after impressing on his full international debut vs Liechtenstein in June. Head coach Jens Berthel Askou had denied denied the player was close to a departure last Friday, saying 'he's still a Motherwell player and we're very happy to have him here.' However, it now looks like the 18-year-old could be joining international teammate Lewis Ferguson at Bologna, after the Coppa Italia champions were said to have opened negotiations with Motherwell over a deal that would see him join I Rossoblu. The report states that talks are ongoing between the two clubs, with Miller offered a contract until 2029 at the Renato Dall'Ara Stadium, with the option to deal for a further year. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Motherwell's Lennon Miller could be set to complete a transfer to the Italian Serie A this summer. | SNS Group Celtic 'weigh up' surprise move Celtic head coach Brendan Rodgers has been linked with interest in former Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy, according to a fresh report from SportsBoom. The 38-year-old veteran had been strongly tipped to move to Glasgow rivals Rangers earlier this summer, after bringing his 13-year stay at the King Power Stadium to an end in June, though no move to Ibrox materialised. The report claims that West Ham United are ready to offer Vardy a route back to the English Premier League, with head coach Graham Potter a big admirer of the player, though he intends to use him more as an impact substitute at the London Stadium. His former boss at Leicester, Rodgers is said to be 'weighing up' the decision to launch a bid for the experienced free agent, with the Hoops head coach keen to strengthen his attacking options ahead of the Scottish Premiership opener against St Mirren later this week. Jamie Vardy has interest from Celtic, according to a fresh report. | Getty Images Rangers 'agree fee' Rangers are closing in on their eighth signing of the summer after agreeing a deal with Go Ahead Eagles for winger Oliver Antman, as per numerous reports. The 23-year-old, who is valued at around £5million, was one of the Eredivisie's standout players last season, but is set to become Russell Martin's newest summer arrival at Ibrox, with a deal likely to be completed 'in the next 24 to 48 hours.' Linked to Sheffield United earlier in the window, it appears Rangers have stolen a march on the Blades in the race for Antman, who scored seven goals and assisted a further 17 for his side last season. It is claimed that the two clubs came to an agreement over a transfer fee over the weekend, and contracts talks with the player have progressed quickly. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad
