NHAI removes inaccurate plaques near Haldighati

Jaipur: National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) Tuesday removed four plaques installed along a 6-km stretch near the historic Haldighati battlefield in Rajasthan's Rajsamand district after they were found to contain inaccurate and conflicting information about the 1576 battle between Maharana Pratap and Mughal emperor Akbar's forces.
The action came in response to a TOI report published on June 19 titled "Haldighati Plaques Omit Key Historical Facts, Spark Uproar". Among the misrepresentations were conflicting timelines of the battle, which was alternatively described as lasting three hours, three days and June 18–23 across different plaques. The inscriptions also omitted key historical figures, notably Mirza Raja Man Singh of Amber, who led the Mughal forces in Haldighati.
Following the report, several cultural and historical organisations expressed outrage and demanded immediate removal of the misleading plaques.
Chandra Shekhar Sharma, professor of history at Meera Girls College in Udaipur, who flagged the issue, criticised the language and content of the plaques: "Not only were the facts incorrect but the diction and Hindi grammar seemed as if the text was lifted straight from a WhatsApp forward.

Authorities must be more cautious — the people of Mewar are highly sensitive when it comes to the legacy of Maharana Pratap."
Pratap Singh Jhala, coordinator of Mewarjan—an Udaipur-based organisation dedicated to preserving Mewar's cultural heritage—confirmed that he submitted historically accurate content to NHAI so that corrections could be made. "They (NHAI authorities) accepted the revised text and we expect the corrected plaques to be installed soon," he said.
NHAI officials are said to have conveyed to Jhala that their initial intention was to place a basic plaque featuring just a headline. "However, detailed information was later added by the field staff without formal review or approval, leading to the discrepancies," Jhala said.

Rehabilitated beggars craft eco-friendly Ganesha idols
Indore: Around 25 beggars, who once completely relied on begging as a livelihood, are now skilled in 19 vocational courses, including Ganesh idol making, to earn with dignity. These individuals, who were rescued from begging in Indore—some grappling with addiction, past criminal involvement, and mental health issues—are now diligently crafting beautiful Ganesha idols. Two months before Ganesh Utsav, these rehabilitated individuals created over 7,000 Ganesha statues, marking a profound step in their journey towards self-sufficiency. These eco-friendly idols are meticulously prepared at the 'Pravesh' institution in Pardeshipura, using cow dung sourced from local gaushalas (cow shelters). The idols, available in various sizes, are notably lightweight and intricately beautiful. "So far, we received orders to deliver 5,200 Ganesh idols," NGO head Rupali Jain said. Over the past few years, more than 5,000 beggars were rescued. Of these, over 2,000 were from outside Indore and were sent back to their native places after being rescued from temples, roads, intersections, and fairgrounds. Approximately 480 individuals from the Pardhi and Nath communities were also sent back home. A total of 2,520 beggars were brought to rehabilitation centres. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch vàng CFDs với sàn môi giới tin cậy IC Markets Tìm hiểu thêm Undo Some of these individuals received treatment at mental hospitals and are now being taught life skills and proper etiquette to integrate them back into mainstream society. AMC to trim 1K trees near airport after AI crash
1 2 Ahmedabad: The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation's (AMC) garden department will begin trimming 1,013 trees identified within the take-off and landing corridors of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International (SVPI) Airport, three weeks after the devastating Air India flight 171 crash. The aircraft crashed over a medical college hostel in Meghaninagar on June 12, resulting in 260 deaths. The tragedy prompted immediate safety audits by the Airports Authority of India (AAI), which ordered comprehensive surveys of all obstructions in flight paths. "The airport management subsequently wrote to us requesting tree trimming operations across multiple spots," a senior AMC official told TOI. He added, "We have received the complete list of trees located within the airport's take-off and landing funnel areas. All 1,013 trees will be trimmed strategically to reduce their heights while ensuring minimal environmental impact." State revises timetable for Std 1 & 2; Art & PE hrs restored
Mumbai: The Maharashtra state government has released a revised timetable for classes 1 and 2, dropping the controversial proposal to make Hindi mandatory. The new schedule mandates only Marathi and English as compulsory languages and introduces an 'Additional Enrichment Period' aimed at providing academic support through remedial teaching, skill development, or preparation for competitive exams. The move comes after backlash over the June 18 circular, prompting the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) to roll back many of its earlier changes. Art and Physical Education, which had seen their annual hours slashed to 81 and 40, respectively, in the earlier version, have now been restored to 122 and 61 hours. Additionally, class session durations have been aligned with National Curriculum Framework (NCF) norms, increased to 45–60 minutes from the previously proposed 35–45 minutes. Though the state has provided a model weekly timetable, schools retain flexibility in organising the daily order of subjects and start and end times. However, they are not permitted to reduce the total weekly or annual instructional hours. Another provision includes 10 designated bagless days annually for experiential learning and reducing academic pressure. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Glicemia acima de 130? Mahendra Ganpule, former head of the Maharashtra School Principals' Association, warned, "With schools operating in two shifts, children may end up leaving as late as 6:45pm. That's too late — especially with city traffic and rural safety concerns after sunset." The new timetable will be implemented for Std 1 from the academic year 2025–26. For Std 2, the rollout will be contingent on the printing of new textbooks.
