Prime Minister Narendra Modi has arrived in London for his official visit to the United Kingdom from July 23 to 24.

The two sides will also assess the progress of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (CSP), with key focus areas including trade and economy, defence and security, technology and innovation, climate action, health, education, and strengthening people-to-people connections.

Following this, the Prime Minister will proceed to the Maldives for a State Visit from July 25 to 26, during which regional maritime cooperation, security, and development partnerships are expected to top the agenda.
During his two-day official visit to the United Kingdom, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to engage in wide-ranging discussions with his British counterpart, Prime Minister Keir Starmer, covering the full spectrum of the India-UK bilateral relationship, as well as pressing regional and global issues, according to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).
The India-UK partnership, once rooted in historical ties, has evolved into a robust, multi-dimensional and mutually beneficial relationship. The elevation of this partnership to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2021 marked a significant turning point.
Over the past year, PM Modi and PM Starmer have met twice in person, once on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in Brazil (November 2024) and again at the G7 Summit in June 2025, in addition to holding several telephonic conversations.
One of the clearest indicators of the strength of bilateral relations is the presence of five Ministerial-level Institutional Mechanisms spanning strategic affairs, economy & finance, trade, energy, and science & technology. Recent high-level dialogues have included the Foreign Office Consultation, Defence Consultation Group, and the 2+2 Foreign and Defence Dialogue.
On the economic front, bilateral trade reached a record USD 55 billion in 2024, representing a 10% increase over 2023. A major milestone in the relationship was the announcement of the India-UK Free Trade Agreement (FTA) on May 6, 2025, by both Prime Ministers.

Indian shares inch lower as Kotak earnings drag financials, trade deal delay weighs
By Bharath Rajeswaran and Vivek Kumar M (Reuters) -Indian shares inched lower on Monday as weak results from Kotak Mahindra Bank weighed on sentiment, while uncertainty over trade talks with the U.S. added to overall caution. The Nifty 50 fell 0.16% to 24,798.9 points and the BSE Sensex lost 0.2% to 81,325.4 as of 10:03 a.m. IST. The broader small-caps and mid-caps lost 0.3% and 0.2%, respectively. Negotiations between India and the United States remained deadlocked over tariff cuts on agriculture and dairy products, dimming hopes of an interim deal ahead of U.S. President Donald Trump's August 1 deadline. This is in contrast to a framework trade agreement struck between the U.S. and European Union over the weekend, easing fears of a bigger trade war between the two allies, which account for almost a third of global trade. High-weightage financials and private banks lost 0.2% and 1%, respectively, dragged by a 7% fall in Kotak Mahindra Bank after it posted a drop in quarterly profit. The IT index lost 0.5%, with Tata Consultancy Services shedding 1.6% after it announced plans to reduce its workforce by 2% in fiscal year 2026. The Nifty 50 and 30-stock Sensex have logged four consecutive weekly losses due to weak earnings, foreign outflows and uncertainty over the U.S.-India trade deal. "A dull earnings season and the lingering delay in the India-U.S. trade deal have clearly cast a shadow on market sentiment. With valuations still stretched across the board, investors are understandably treading with heightened caution," said G Chokkalingam, founder and head of research at Equinomics Research. Among individual stocks, Mphasis gained 2.4% on posting quarterly results in-line with estimates and on strong deal bookings, which has boosted the IT company's revenue growth outlook. SBI Cards and Payment Services lost 3.7% after missing profit estimates in the June quarter. (Reporting by Vivek Kumar M and Bharath Rajeswaran; Editing by Eileen Soreng and Mrigank Dhaniwala)

Investors will likely focus on operating margin trends, working capital discipline, and capex updates." Rupee rises 9 paise to 86.43 against U.S. dollar in early trade
The rupee appreciated 9 paise to 86.43 against the U.S. dollar in early trade on Monday (July 28, 2025), tracking a softer greenback, though the upside for the local unit was limited as US-India tariff negotiations remained in focus. Forex traders said the rupee was trading in a narrow range as the demand for dollar from importers continued to keep the American unit well bid against the rupee. Moreover, the support from developing trade agreements was negated by the sustained foreign fund outflows, they said. At the interbank foreign exchange, the domestic unit opened on a positive note and touched 86.43 against the greenback in initial deals, higher by 9 paise from its previous closing level. On Friday, the rupee declined 12 paise to settle at 86.52 against the U.S. dollar. Meanwhile, the dollar index, which gauges the greenback's strength against a basket of six currencies, fell 0.03% to 97.61. Brent crude, the global oil benchmark, went up by 0.48% to $68.77 per barrel in futures trade, supported by developing trade agreements. Brent oil prices edged up from three week lows in Asian trading to $68 per barrel after E.U. and U.S. reached a trade agreement that eased tariff concerns and boosted future energy demands, said Anil Kumar Bhansali, Head of Treasury and Executive Director Finrex Treasury Advisors LLP. The investors are now watching developments from FED which begins its two-day policy meeting from Tuesday (July 29, 2025), Mr. Bhansali said. "The Indian rupee is expected to be steady near 86.47 after the European deal was done but India is still away from a conclusive deal," Mr. Bhansali said, adding that the month-end demand may keep the rupee stable. Meanwhile, in the domestic equity market, Sensex declined 67.43 points or 0.08% to 81,395.66, while Nifty fell 14.25 points or 0.06% to 24,851.25. Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) offloaded equities worth ₹1,979.96 crore on a net basis on Friday, according to exchange data. Meanwhile, India's forex kitty declined by $1.183 billion to $695.489 billion during the week ended July 18, the RBI said on Friday. In the previous week, the overall kitty had dropped by $3.064 billion to $696.672 billion. The reserves had touched an all-time high of $704.885 billion at end-September 2024.
