Just in: Sydney has ranked in the top 10 most liveable cities in the world for 2025

Time Out17-06-2025
Sydney has proven time and time again that it's more than just a pretty coastal idyll. Last month, the Harbour City ranked among the top ten in the prestigious 2025 Global Cities Index. Now, we've done it again in the equally respected Global Liveability Index – ranking as the sixth most liveable city in the world for 2025.
For more than two decades, the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) has released its Global Liveability Index, ranking 173 cities across five key metrics: stability, healthcare, culture and environment, education, and infrastructure. The 2025 rankings have just dropped, with Copenhagen overtaking Vienna after a three-year reign to take the title of the world's most liveable city. Coming just behind Zürich in fourth place is Melbourne, which retained its 2024 ranking with an overall score of 97 out of 100. That's well above this year's global average liveability score of 76.1.
Once upon a time, Melbourne ruled the Global Liveability Index – named the world's most liveable city for a remarkable seven years straight. While it dropped to eighth place in 2021 and tenth in 2022, the Victorian capital has bounced back, holding steady in the top five globally for the past three years and proudly claiming Australia's number one spot.
And our very own Sydney also held onto its overall liveability score of 96.6, but overtook Calgary, jumping from seventh place in 2024 to sixth in 2025. Both Melbourne and Sydney matched perfect scores for healthcare and education (100 each), also scoring strong marks for stability (95) and infrastructure (96.4). But Melbourne pulled ahead in the culture and environment category, scoring 95.8 to Sydney's 94.4.
In 2025, one more Australian city quietly crept into the top ten – and that was Adelaide in ninth place with an overall liveability score of 95.9. That's a huge leap from the city's 11th place ranking in 2024 and an even bigger jump from 30th place in 2022. Adelaide shares the same ratings as Melbourne and Sydney across all categories except culture and environment, where it scores a solid 91.4. Could this rising star outshine Australia's biggest cities on next year's Global Liveability Index? We'll have to wait and see.
Here are the world's 10 most liveable cities
Copenhagen, Denmark
Vienna, Austria
Zürich, Switzerland
Melbourne, Australia
Geneva, Switzerland
Sydney, Australia
Osaka, Japan
Auckland, New Zealand

Oodie launches multi-buy offers on new cooling blanket for hot summer nights

Save money by purchasing more than one of the brand's newest cooling blanket that is "ice cold to the touch." Brits were sweltering in another heatwave this past weekend. While temperatures are set to get a bit cooler, that doesn't mean it's not still going to be very warm throughout summer. For those who run hot during the evening, this time of year can be quite difficult to get a good night's sleep. Fortunately, Oodie has come to the rescue with its newly launched Cooling Blanket. With temperatures set to remain high, the Australian brand has just launched two multi-buy offers across its summer must-have, allowing shoppers to bag them for multiple family members for less. Working out at £99 for a single-size, the firm is offering 20 per cent off when customers buy two at the same time, reducing the total cost £158.40 instead of £198, meaning both blankets would work out at £79.20 each. The firm is also offering 30 per cent off when customers purchase three, reducing the total cost to an even cheaper £69.30 each, with the subtotal coming in at £207.90, offering a discount of more than £89 overall. Oodie Cooling Blanket £99 £79.20 Oodie Buy here Product Description Both discounts also apply to the queen-size that retails at £129, with the 20 per cent offer reducing a pair to £103.20 each, and the 30 per cent price cut reducing the cost of three to just £90.30 each. Crafted from a nylon and elastane blend material, the "lightweight" Cooling Blanket is said to boast a Qmax score of 0.32, which means that it is said to be "cooling" and "refreshing" on the skin compared to other fabrics. Designed to be cool to the touch, its cooling properties allows it to wick away body heat and moisture, allowing it to absorb excess body heat that will help it regulate body temperature, meaning it's suitable for hot sleepers all year round. While Oodie remains a firm favourite with millions of customers, for some the price remains quite high, even with the discounted prices. For something a tad more affordable, yet still from a trusted brand, we have spotted the Silentnight Restore Cooling Blanket at Argos for £45. Alternatively, Amazon also offers an abundance of similar items for the summer weather, with this Kouamor Cooling Blanket measuring 150cmx200cm costing an affordable £18.99. However, what sets Oodie's blanket apart is the selection of fun colours it is available to buy that includes a lilac pastel wave, a simple grey and a multi-coloured check pattern. Fashion deal of the week New Balance has just launched a massive sale ahead of the summer, with up to half-price off. For those who don't want their feet to get sore during the day, the Women's 327 Shoes have earned a glowing reputation from thousands of shoppers, with praise suggesting they are "like walking on clouds." Usually retailing at £100, these lace-up trainers are now available to purchase for just £60, saving 40 percent and £40 off the RRP. Initially designed as running shoes that have been inspired by the 1970's, the New Balance 327 boasts an angular reworking of the classic wedge silhouette and an adjustable lace-closure design for a customized fit. The wraparound, trail-inspired lug outsole makes these trainers a supportive choice for those on their feet all day, whether that be during physical exercise or when out on city breaks during the summer. As of writing, the 40 percent discount covers three colours - slate grey, bone and raincloud - with sizes ranging from three to eight, including half-sizes, although some are being snapped up fast. They currently boast a 4.6 rating based on over 3,000 reviews, as one thrilled customer wrote: "Not only do these look good, they're the comfiest trainers I've ever worn! Walked around London for 2 days & I felt like I was walking on clouds!" A second positive review read: "Walking on Air! They are the most comfortable shoe I've ever had. I've tossed out all my On Cloud's, Nike's & Hoka's. I plan on buying another air for the summer." Shop the 40 percent discount on the New Balance Women's 327 Shoes online now. It's already received glowing reviews on Trustpilot, as one shopper praised: "A week ago I received my cooling blanket and let me tell you - its perfect, its really cold when you cover yourself, the pattern is matching my apt and the sewing is exquisite! "It's a little pricey but if its gonna last at least the 4 years of my [current] Oodies then it's a great price! I definitely recommend buying anything and everything from this site. They have really fast shipping and great customer support." Someone else praising it wrote: "Got a robe and a cooling blanket. While I didn't really think the robe would be just like the regular Oodie, I still like it. The cooling blanket? TRULY a cooling blanket. Ice cold to the touch and it's great at night. If you guys did regular bed sheets I'd get those too!" However, someone did find that it didn't stay cool for long, writing: "While being very soft and my partner likes it, it does feel cooler when first going to sleep, just doesn't stay that way for long. "I was not expecting miracles but gave it a go to try and get a comfortable sleep for both of us. I would still buy from Oodie again as I do like their products." Although, another extremely pleased shopper added: "Love everything about the Oodie cooling blanket, will be buying more, highly recommend." Keep cool at night by shopping Oodie's multi-buy offers on its Cooling Blanket now.

Celebrated Aussie chef Mark Best is set to transform Sydney Tower's revolving restaurant

Sydney Tower, once known as Centrepoint Tower, will soon be home to a contemporary Australian restaurant led by renowned chef and restaurateur Mark Best, in partnership with Trippas White Group. Best, who is best known for his award-winning fine diner Marque – which he ran for 17 years from 1999 to 2016 – will transform the sky-high Infinity at Sydney Tower to launch Infinity by Mark Best on August 13, just in time for spring. Found on level 81 and featuring floor-to-ceiling glass windows that make the most of those million-dollar vistas, the 90-seat Infinity by Mark Best will showcase Australia on a plate. 'Infinity by Mark Best is an opportunity to define what Australian dining can truly be: delicious, contemporary, culturally resonant and grounded in ingredients and identity,' says Best. 'I want to tell a story of place, memory and innovation – to express who I am, and who we are – on a plate. I want to explore the evolving story of Australian cuisine, drawing on memory, transforming the familiar and crafting a dining experience that connects land, culture and imagination; in a setting unlike any other, 81 floors above the city that shaped me,' he adds. The menu will celebrate the best of the country's bounty, with signature snacks including Coffin Bay oysters with grilled sea foam, and South Coast sea urchin crumpets. Heading up the wine program is award-winning sommelier Polly Mackarel, a former key team member in The Bentley Group (King Clarence, Cirrus, Monopole). Expect an all-Australian wine list spanning heavy-hitters and exciting drops from up-and-coming winemakers. Featuring navy, charcoal and warm timber browns, as well as brass and soft amber accents, the minimalist design plays a supporting role to the pièce de résistance: the city and harbour views, which make you fall in love with Sydney all over again. The sky's the limit with Infinity by Mark Best – and we're excited.
