CONNECTICUT (WTNH) — A man wanted for allegedly murdering a law enforcement officer in Mexico was arrested while attempting to hide out in Connecticut, according to Homeland Security officials Tuesday. Officials said Orlando Diaz-Cebada- also known as 'El Leches'- is an undocumented immigrant from Mexico and member of a gang known for drug trafficking, the Los Pochos gang. He was arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement on June 12. Woman detained by ICE in New Haven, officials say 'Thanks to our brave ICE law enforcement and federal partners, this criminal illegal alien fugitive wanted for murdering a law enforcement official in Mexico is off America's streets. This heinous murderer attempted to evade justice by hiding out in Connecticut,' Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin said in a statement. Homeland Security officials said Mexican authorities had an arrest warrant for Diaz-Cebada, for aggravated homicide as of April 23, 2024. He was previously deported by U.S. Border Patrol on May 22, 2024, after illegally entering the U.S. He was deported again two days later when he allegedly attempted to re-enter the U.S. Officials said he illegally re-entered for a third time on an unknown date, and from an unknown location. 2 people arrested on drug and firearm charges in Vernon

VERNON, Conn. (WTNH) — Two men were arrested after police found loaded firearms, marijuana and fentanyl pills in a vehicle search on Route 83 in Vernon, police said. Nahzai Watkins, 22, of Vernon, and Masai Johnson, 22, of Windsor, were arrested, according to police. 5 wounded during shooting at Father's Day cookout in Hartford It happened around 10:15 p.m. on Friday when an officer stopped a car for allgedly driving 'erratically.' Police said two people were in the car and marijuana residue was allgedly on the driver's lap. When the officer administered a sobriety test, the passenger began having a 'medical emergency' and was taken out of the car. Authorities said that while helping the passenger, the operator sprinted back to the vehicle, jumped through the passenger compartment into the driver's seat and attempted to flee. Officers intervened and removed the suspect from the car before he could drive away. Following a search using K9 Franco, authorities found around 18 ounces of marijuana packaged for sale, 10 pressed fentanyl pills, scales and packaging materials, and two loaded firearms.
