American charged with plot to throw Molotov cocktails at US embassy office in Israel
Officials arrested the man, 28-year-old Joseph Neumayer, at John F. Kennedy airport in New York after being deported from Israel to the US, according to a Justice Department news release.
The DOJ says Neumayer, who is also a German citizen, had allegedly arrived at the US embassy office in Tel Aviv on May 19 and spat on an embassy guard without provocation.
Neumeyer managed to break free as the guard attempted to detain him, leaving behind his backpack, the DOJ said, citing a complaint.
Guards found three Molotov cocktails in the backpack, the department said. Law enforcement tracked down Neumeyer to his hotel in Israel, where he was arrested.
Authorities searched Neumayer's social media, which allegedly included a post from earlier that day that said 'join me as I burn down the embassy in Tel Aviv.' His page also allegedly included the phrases, 'Death to America, death to Americans' and threats to assassinate US President Donald Trump.
'This defendant is charged with planning a devastating attack targeting our embassy in Israel, threatening death to Americans, and President Trump's life,' said Attorney General Pamela Bondi.
FBI Director Kash Patel said: 'This despicable and violent behavior will not be tolerated at home or abroad, and the FBI, working with our partners, will bring him to face justice for his dangerous actions.'
Neumeyer had allegedly arrived in Israel last month. If convicted, he faces a maximum of 20 years in prison and a maximum fine of $250,000, according to the Justice Department.
The revelation of Neumayer's charges comes shortly after the fatal shooting of two Israeli Embassy staffers in Washington, DC. The killings are being investigated as an act of terrorism after the man suspected of carrying out the shooting yelled 'Free Palestine' and told law enforcement he 'did it for Gaza,' according to police.
US Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem is in Israel today meeting with senior government officials, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, in the wake of the shooting. — CNN

Israeli forces killed at least 36 Palestinians and injured others near an aid distribution site run by the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) in Khan Younis, reported Reuters. The US-backed organization denied the incident, while the Israeli army said it only fired warning shots at suspects, amid growing controversary over aid distribution process in the war-torn enclave. Shooting Palestinians At dawn on Saturday, the Israeli troops opened gunfire at Palestinians heading to an aid distribution site in Khan Younis, killing at least 36 people, according to Gaza's Health Ministry and Nasser Hospital. The Israeli military said it fired warning shots at suspects moving near its forces, at a time when the distribution site was not active. It said it was investigating the incident. However, an eyewitness told Reuters that there were no warnings before the shooting. 'We thought they came out to organize us so we can get aid, suddenly (I) saw the jeeps coming from one side, and the tanks from the other and started shooting at us,' Gaza resident Mohamed al-Khalidi said. GHF Response The GHF denied any incidents or fatalities on Saturday, adding that it warned people not to head to its sites in the dark. 'We have repeatedly warned aid seekers not to travel to our sites overnight and early morning hours,' the GHF said. 'The reported (Israeli military) activity resulting in fatalities occurred hours before our sites opened and our understanding is most of the casualties occurred several kilometers away from the nearest GHF site,' it said in a statement. The GHF has sparked worldwide anger over its aid distribution mechanism that caused mounting death toll near distribution sites. The Israeli and US-backed organization works with private American contractors to get aid supplies into Gaza. Global Condemnation The GHF model bypasses the UN-led system as Israel claims that Hamas loots aid shipments, an accusation the Palestinian movement denies. Under the GHF operation system, Palestinian aid seekers are required to travel to distribution sites each week to get one package per family. However, the UN and other international organizations have criticized the GHF operation model, refusing to cooperate with the organization amid fears it aims to force the displacement of Palestinians and saying there is no evidence that Hamas steals aid. Moreover, the UN has called the GHF model 'unsafe' and a 'breach of humanitarian impartiality standards.' Earlier in July, Amnesty International accused Israel and the GHF of using starvation tactics as a weapon of war against Palestinians as part of the Israeli ongoing genocide in the Gaza Strip. It also said that Israel has turned aid seeking into a 'booby trap for desperate starved Palestinians' by preventing UN and other key humanitarian organizations from distributing certain aid items and by maintaining the GHF 'militarized aid scheme.' Rising Deaths Shooting incidents near GHF distribution sites have been on the rise in recent weeks. On July 15, 2025, the UN Rights Office said that since May 27, 2025, at least 875 people in Gaza while seeking aid; 674 of them near the GHF sites. The remaining 201 were killed while seeking aid on the routes of aid convoys or near aid convoys run by the UN or its partners. Furthermore, the UN agency for Palestinian refugees, UNRWA, voiced deep concerns over civilian deaths near aid sites amid the spread of deadly malnutrition among children. In the light of this, the UNRWA Director of Communications, Juliette Touma, said: 'Our teams on the ground – UNRWA teams and other United Nations teams – have spoken to survivors of these killings, these starving children included, who were shot at while on their way to pick up very little food.' Touma warned that babies are dying as a result of acute malnutrition caused by Israel's blockade on aid entry into Gaza. 'We've been banned from bringing any humanitarian assistance into Gaza for more than four months now,' she said, pointing to a 'significant increase' in child malnutrition since the Israeli blockade began on 2 March. Palestinians Protest against Settler Outpost at West Bank
Clashes between Palestinians and the Israeli army broke out on Friday during a march against a newly established Israeli settlement outpost in a village in the northern occupied West Bank, according to AFP. All Israeli settlements in the West Bank are illegal under international law. However, approximately 1 million Israeli settlers live in illegal settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem in violation of international law. Meanwhile, settler outposts are also prohibited under Israeli law. During the march, a group of Palestinians walked from Raba toward a nearby hill on top of which settlers had established the outpost. 'We came to this area to express our protest and say: 'this land is ours, not yours',' Ghassan Bazour, head of Raba's village council, told AFP. They performed Friday prayer at the base of the hill and continued toward the outpost. At that time, Israeli soldiers arrived on the scene and dispersed the crowd with tear gas, an AFP journalist reported. As a result, 13 people suffered from tear gas inhalation and received medical care from the Palestinian Red Crescent. Bazour stated that settlers had originally taken over the hill's high ground to establish an outpost and prevent Palestinians from accessing nearby agricultural lands. Katz's remarks followed Israel's announcement of the creation of 22 new settlements in the West Bank. Hezbollah rejects US push for disarmament in Lebanon-Israel ceasefire framework
BEIRUT — Hezbollah Secretary-General Naim Qassem said Friday that the United States is pressuring Lebanon to accept a new agreement with Israel that would begin with Hezbollah's disarmament in exchange for a partial Israeli withdrawal from southern Lebanon. In a televised speech aired by Hezbollah's Al-Manar channel during a ceremony honoring slain commander Ali Karaki, Qassem warned that disarmament would amount to facilitating Israeli expansion. 'We fully implemented the ceasefire agreement in southern Lebanon, south of the Litani River,' he said. 'Now the U.S. wants a new deal starting with disarming us for a partial withdrawal by Israel.' Qassem reiterated Hezbollah's refusal to respond to any calls to hand over its weapons unless Israeli aggression on Lebanon stops. The remarks come ahead of a scheduled visit by U.S. Special Envoy Tom Barrack to Beirut next week. Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam confirmed the visit Friday, saying that the Lebanese government had reviewed and commented on a U.S. proposal Barrack submitted via President Joseph Aoun. A Lebanese official earlier told Anadolu Agency that Barrack's proposal, submitted June 19, links Hezbollah's disarmament and state monopoly over weapons to Israel's withdrawal from five remaining positions in southern Lebanon. It also includes provisions for releasing funds to rebuild war-damaged areas and implementing reforms in border control, smuggling prevention, customs collection, and public facility oversight. Hostilities between Hezbollah and Israeli forces erupted into full-scale warfare last September, despite a ceasefire agreement brokered in November. Israeli strikes have continued in southern Lebanon, with Tel Aviv citing Hezbollah activities as justification. Lebanese authorities have documented nearly 3,000 Israeli violations of the ceasefire, with more than 250 deaths and over 560 injuries reported since the truce began.
