Fewer events, lower attendance at Canada Life Place

A new report on Canada Life Place finances and attendance, shows a drop in numbers from the year before.
The report indicates about 600,000 people attended events at the arena last year, down from nearly 700,000 in 2023.
The arena also hosted 17-fewer events last year compared to the year before.
According to the report, the city collected $100,000 from leasing Canada Life Place last year, and took in $140,000 from ticket sales.
The venue, originally known as the John Labatt Centre, then Budweiser Gardens, opened in October 2002 with a seating capacity of 9,090 for hockey and ice events and over 10, 000 for concerts, family ​shows, and other events.

Instinct tells us all to go home, according to Scottish author Laura Marney, and with homes like these, those instincts are correct. In June, CTV News Edmonton looked at some of the most expensive houses in Sherwood Park. Of those five homes, only one listing is still up. The cost of housing is an ever-fluctuating thing and sometimes prices don't reflect how amazing a house truly is. This month, we're not just showcasing the most expensive houses, but ones that have that 'wow' factor you would expect from homes that cost upwards of $1 million. Some people might be happy with a simple house with a few thousand square feet and several-dozen acres, and those are available (link), but they aren't the most fun to look at. First, some data for Strathcona County: In June, there were 57 residential unit sales in the county, 53 of those were detached houses, according to the Realtors Association of Edmonton (RAE). There were 70 new listings and the average price was $927,494. These numbers compare to 2,877 units sold, 4,215 new listings and an average price of $464,955 in the greater Edmonton area. 'We're starting to see signs of a slowdown in some categories—particularly semi-detached and row/townhomes, where sales dipped and time on market increased,' said RAE board chair Darlene Reid in the monthly statistics report. 'That said, with inventory growing and strong listing activity, the Greater Edmonton Area continues to offer opportunity for both buyers and sellers as we head into the second half of the year.' THE CANADIAN PRESS/Craig Wong TORONTO -- Hudson's Bay has received court approval for two deals that will see it sell six of its leases. Ontario Superior Court judge Peter Osborne gave the collapsed retailer permission to sell five leases to YM Inc. for $5.03 million. YM Inc. owns a slew of mall brands including Bluenotes, Urban Planet, Suzy Shier and West 49. Osborne is also allowing the Bay to move forward with another deal it struck to sell its lease at Metrotown in Burnaby, B.C., to Ivanhoe Realties Inc. for $20,000. The deals will help the Bay shave off a sliver of the $1.1 billion in debt it had when it filed for creditor protection in March. Toronto's new renovictions bylaw comes into effect, aimed at protecting tenants

A new Toronto bylaw targeting renovictions comes into effect Thursday, requiring landlords to get a licence before carrying out repairs or renovations that force tenants to move out. The City of Toronto says the new bylaw is designed to protect tenants from "bad faith" evictions that happen under the guise of renovations. The city says landlords looking to get a rental renovation licence must now notify tenants of their intentions and agree on the renter's temporary living arrangements or compensation. It says the licence is required even if tenants intend to return to their units once renovations are complete. Landlords must apply for the licence within seven days of giving notice of ending tenancy — known as an N13 notice — to the renter. The city says renters who suspect landlords are not following the new bylaw can report them to the city.
