This All-inclusive Resort Was Just Voted Best in Mexico (Again)—and It Has Private Beach Dinners, a Catamaran, and Butler Service

As travelers continue to prize genuine hospitality and elevated experiences, they're drawn to hotels that deliver elevated-yet-warm service and immersive programming, along with food and design firmly rooted in a sense of place. All of these qualities are reflected in T+L readers' favorite resorts in Mexico for 2025. Though emerging destinations like Valle de Guadalupe, Puerto Escondido, and Costalegre have become more accessible thanks to new hotel openings and the completion of long-awaited infrastructure projects, major vacation hubs like Riviera Maya and Los Cabos continue to dominate in the World's Best Awards. Every year for our World's Best Awards survey, T+L asks readers to weigh in on travel experiences around the globe—to share their opinions on the top hotels, resorts, cities, islands, cruise ships, spas, airlines, and more. Nearly 180,000 T+L readers completed the 2025 survey. A total of more than 657,000 votes were cast across over 8,700 properties (hotels, cities, cruise lines, etc.). Hotels were classified as either resort hotel, city hotel, inn, or safari lodge based on their location and amenities, and they were specifically rated on the criteria below: Rooms/facilities Location Service Food Value For each characteristic, respondents could choose a rating of excellent, above average, average, below average, or poor. The final scores are averages of these responses.
The Presidential Suite at La Casa de La Playa.
Two tried-and-true resort areas along Mexico's sun-soaked coasts once again have the most representation on this year's list of T+L reader favorites. In fact, only one property—No. 12 Banyan Tree Puebla—sits inland.
Riviera Maya, just south of Cancún on the Yucatán Peninsula, came through with nine spots, including two hotels set amid the verdant mangroves and emerald canals of the Mayakoba complex. That striking setting was just one of the reasons Fairmont Mayakoba secured its No. 17 spot. 'This is a magical place,' writes one reader of the 401-key property. 'The lushness of the jungle there is incredible, and the hotel is laid out beautifully with excellent suites nestled along pathways through the vibrant greens of the plants. Water is everywhere in lagoons, canals, streams, and the ocean. Pools are huge with plenty of lounges and well-stocked cabanas around them. But the crowning glory of this hotel is the service. Everyone is eager to please and will go out of their way to help in any way.'
...the crowning glory of this hotel is the service. Everyone is eager to please and will go out of their way to help in any way.
— T+L Reader
Over on the west coast, the biggest cluster of resorts can be found in Cabo San Lucas and San José del Cabo in Baja California Sur. In this region, Las Ventanas al Paraíso, a Rosewood Resort (No. 6) typifies the superlative hospitality that distinguishes WBA-caliber hotels. 'The service at Las Ventanas is so over the top, I can't imagine staying anywhere else,' gushed one WBA voter of the 84 suites and villas. Another T+L reader, who calls the hotel a 'must,' had high praise for their experience: 'The team is beyond attentive and welcoming. The rooms are stunning, and the food is amazing!'
Another notable trend? The continued popularity of all-inclusive resorts, which appeal to a growing number of travelers for the myriad ways they streamline costs and planning. And, as the six on this list demonstrate, they've increasingly infused their activities and culinary programs with regional influences. Take Hotel Xcaret Arte (No. 9), one of Grupo Xcaret's three honorees. In addition to complimentary access to the company's ecoparks, guests of the 900-suite property can participate in creative pursuits like pottery and weaving.
With the trend on such an upswing, perhaps it's no surprise that T+L readers named one luxe option as their favorite resort in Mexico for 2025 for the second year in a row.
La Casa de la Playa: Playa del Carmen, Mexico The infinity pool at La Casa de la Playa.
With just 63 suites, this back-to-back No. 1 is the smallest all-inclusive to make this year's list of T+L's favorite resorts in Mexico. Each of the butler-attended accommodations measures more than 1,000 square feet and looks out to either the ocean or hotel gardens, allowing for plenty of privacy. The sense of refined luxury that won readers over also extends to activities such as a catamaran sail or a private dinner on the beach. Romance is also a draw at the adults-only escape, where couples can indulge in the wellness experiences at the Muluk Spa, including the rejuvenating hydrotherapy circuit.

The 8 Best Leather Overnight Bags of 2025, Tested and Reviewed

As someone who uses leather backpacks and totes regularly (and swears by personal favorites from Cuyana), I know a well-made leather bag when I see one. That's why I especially loved our Best Overall pick, the Korchmar Twain Leather Weekender , which impressed us with its elegant look, roomy interior, and comfortable handles. Scroll through our list to see other leather overnight bags we loved. To identify the top leather overnight bags on the market, we tested 50 styles across various brands, price points, and silhouettes, with ongoing evaluations continuing over a six-month period. Each bag was packed, carried, and used in real-world scenarios from office commutes to weekend getaways to determine how it held up in terms of comfort, construction, and usability. A leather overnight bag offers a level of durability, structure, and timeless style that other materials often can't match. The best ones are spacious without being bulky, stylish enough for any setting, and thoughtfully designed with pockets and features that actually make packing and carrying easier. When made well, leather only gets better with age, softening over time while still maintaining its shape and strength. Korchmar Twain Leather Weekender Credit: Korchmar View on Why We Love It Attractive, timeless, and durable, this carry-on-friendly bag is a worthy investment piece. What to Consider It's pricier than many of the options on our list. Handcrafted from American cowhide and finished with natural oils and waxes, the Korchmar Twain Duffel stood out in our tests for its thoughtful craftsmanship, timeless aesthetic, and versatile performance. Travel + Leisure associate editor Anna Popp and her fiancé tested the bag on multiple trips including long weekend getaways and weddings, and it consistently impressed them. "It's a really attractive leather bag," Popp said, adding that it was especially useful for quick trips where looking polished matters. The Twain is carry-on friendly, and during a four-night trip to Austin, we packed it with several outfits, a toiletry kit, shoes, and accessories without running out of space. Its streamlined, minimalist design has just one interior zippered pocket and no external compartments, which we found worked best when paired with packing cubes. Though the robust leather adds some weight, the bag remains easy to carry, even when full. The top handles fasten together with a button latch for a more comfortable grip, and the adjustable shoulder strap with an ergonomic pad helped distribute weight well. Durable and elegant with antiqued nickel zippers and hardware, it's a quality long-term investment piece. It also comes with a five-year warranty on defects, which speaks to the brand's confidence in its materials and construction. While we would've liked more color options, it's hard to beat this piece for travelers who want style, substance, and simplicity in one handsome bag. What to Consider We didn't love the fabric of the long carrying strap, which reminded us of a seatbelt. This beautiful bag impressed us with its sleek, structured silhouette and travel-friendly versatility. Crafted from full-grain leather with a cotton twill lining, this bag combines thoughtful design with a polished look. It meets most carry-on size requirements (though we recommend confirming with your airline), and while it appears compact, we found it more spacious than expected. It's ideal for weekend getaways or as a supplemental bag for longer trips. T+L's senior testing editor Jackie Cucco stuffed it with three outfits, pajamas, shoes, and a toiletry kit, though it lacked the space for 'a ton of extra accessories.' Interior organization is smart but minimal, with one large zip pocket and two slip pockets (though we found the smaller one less useful). The exterior slip pocket was a standout feature for easy access to travel essentials. Cucco appreciated the adjustable side tabs, which make the bag feel more compact when not fully packed, though she wished they didn't hang awkwardly when unbuckled. While the shoulder strap could use a bit more padding, the structured handles and durable hardware helped make this bag easy to carry for long stretches. What to Consider There's only one slip pocket, so you'll need travel pouches to keep smaller items separated. This oversized leather tote stands out for its rare combination of generous capacity and featherlight feel that offer true ease in transit. While many leather bags are structured and heavy even before packing, this one felt lighter than even some nylon alternatives and proved easy to carry whether tossed over a shoulder or worn crossbody with the long adjustable strap (sold separately). Weighing less than three pounds, it's the lightest full-sized leather tote in T+L associate editorial director Morgan Ashley Parker's collection. Still, it's roomy enough for everything she needs for a day of sightseeing or a commute to the office, including a 15-inch laptop. 'I love that it fully zips shut so I'm not worried about pickpockets or about anything slipping out if I put it under the seat on the plane,' Parker noted. It's sleek, minimal, and available in a range of unique and classic colors. What to Consider The crossbody strap is a useful addition, but it's sold separately. Technically a tote but with the capacity of a small weekender, this Leatherology bag impressed us with its thoughtful organization and durable materials. Parker packed it for overnight and weekend trips and was 'pleasantly surprised by all this built-in organization in a bag this stylish.' With nine interior pockets (including a padded laptop sleeve), two exterior slip pockets, and a luggage sleeve that doubles as storage, it's both versatile and secure. The full-grain leather has a soft, textured finish that feels luxe but not delicate — 'a nice hefty kind,' Parker added — and the trapunto-style stitched personalization ensures a monogram won't fade over time. We've owned several Leatherology pieces over the years and can confidently say they hold up with time and travel, making the brand's personalization options well worth the investment. This tote is an especially smart pick for gifting as well. What to Consider Unpacked, it's heavier than others on our list. With a 33-liter capacity and a structured, suitcase-like build, the Carl Friedrik Granville Weekender offers the kind of space and organization we typically expect from a carry-on roller. Parker used it for a long weekend trip and managed to fit everything she and her dog needed, including multiple outfits, two extra pairs of shoes, toiletries, and pet supplies. Despite the volume, she found it easy to travel with. 'I thought it would have been bulky or awkward to carry when it was full, but shockingly it was not,' she shared. The bag slings easily over the shoulder or can be worn crossbody with the wide strap that's ideal for navigating train stations or city streets. It also includes a luggage sleeve that blends cleanly into the design, plus a roomy exterior zip pocket that was Parker's favorite feature. Crafted from textured full-grain leather with vegetable-tanned vachetta trim, the bag feels especially durable and high-end. Smooth double zippers, magnetic interior pockets, and a reinforced structure make this a well-balanced choice for travelers who want capacity without bulk. What to Consider The design features an open top without a closure. Leather is a heavier material and can be cumbersome to carry, so we appreciate a leather bag that's designed with a more lightweight construction. This unlined tote stands out for its simple, oversized silhouette that's both sturdy and easy to travel with. During a trip to Chicago, T+L senior editor Jasmine Grant used it as her personal item and found it ideal for tossing in everything she needed for the flight and subsequent train commute: 'Just when I thought I was running out of room, I found I could always fit more.' This tote's minimal structure is part of what makes it so portable. Available in four sizes ranging from small to oversized, it has a wide-open main compartment with just one small interior pocket and a large slip pocket on the outside that's great for quick-access items like a phone or lip balm. The English bridle leather handles felt secure and comfortable, even when the bag was full. While it lacks a trolley sleeve and doesn't close at the top, we found its spaciousness and pared-down design ideal for light, casual travel. What to Consider It's a thin bag, so you may have to stack items when packing. This Italian leather tote immediately impressed us for its elegant, design-forward approach to a practical travel bag. Hand-stained and vegetable-tanned, the material feels both supple and durable, lending a sophisticated finish without sacrificing functionality. T+L editor Taylor Fox found it to be lightweight and easy to carry, with structured over-the-shoulder straps and a slim profile that makes it a breeze to stow under a seat on trains or most flights. While it's a bit too large to be an everyday commuter bag, it's perfectly sized for overnight stays or all-day outings. Inside, the layout is simple but effective, featuring two interior pockets and a built-in key lanyard that helped us stay organized. We especially appreciated the smooth zippers and aesthetic touches like the exterior buckle accents, which elevate the look without adding unnecessary bulk. What to Consider It lacks external pockets. With its 55-liter capacity and classic half-moon silhouette, this leather duffel is a versatile option for travelers who prioritize both form and function. We found it impressively spacious, easily holding four to five days' worth of clothing, shoes, and toiletries. Still, it was compact enough to fit in an overhead bin. The cavernous main compartment made packing straightforward, especially with the help of packing cubes, and its slim internal zippered pocket kept essentials like a phone, wallet, and headphones organized. Despite its generous size, it was surprisingly comfortable to carry. The short handles can be slung over a shoulder, and the adjustable strap is practical for longer hauls (though less polished in appearance). 'The exterior leather feels really durable and is grooved so it doesn't show scuffs or scratches so easily,' said Fox, who also noted 'the interior cotton is a bit more delicate.' It held up well through crowded subways, train travel, and Uber rides. 7 of the Best Freebies You Can Get in Economy—Meals, Alcoholic Drinks, and Toys Included

Key Takeaway Even in economy, passengers can score perks like alcoholic drinks, amenity kits, and Wi-Fi, depending on the airline and route. Flight attendants are more likely to grant requests after the main service, especially when passengers are polite and patient. Just because you're flying economy doesn't mean you can't enjoy a few special perks. Even if these extras aren't always widely advertised, they're often available if you ask. As Dollar Flight Club founder and CEO Jesse Neugarten points out, "Many travelers don't realize that even in economy, a polite request can get you a few helpful extras." However, Quinn English, founder of FreeQuinnt Flyer, explains that not all routes are created equal when it comes to economy freebies. For example, he notes that longer flights are more likely to offer extra perks. Similarly, Neugarten adds that "international routes almost always offer more perks than domestic ones." Additionally, English points out that "full-service airlines like Delta, United, and American are going to be the most generous with freebies in economy." On the other hand, both he and Neugarten tell Travel + Leisure that budget carriers tend to be far more limited in what they offer, which makes sense, given their focus on keeping costs (and ticket prices) as low as possible. When asking for freebies, remember that a little kindness and patience go a long way. As English notes, "The most important thing to remember is that most airlines aren't overstaffing flight attendants on each flight, so they have a pretty heavy workload, especially during boarding, getting ready for takeoff, and landing." With that in mind, those probably aren't the best times to make requests. Instead, wait until after the main service has finished and the cabin has settled down—that's when flight attendants are most likely to have the time (and bandwidth) to help. If you're ready to take your in-flight experience to the next level, keep reading to discover the best airline freebies you can score in economy.
