Slight Rise in Gold Prices as Dollar Retreats and Markets Await U.S. Inflation Data

Waleed Farouk
Gold prices saw a slight increase in both local and international markets during Tuesday's trading session, supported by a weakening U.S. dollar and investor anticipation of the upcoming U.S. inflation report expected later today.
In Egypt, the price of 21-karat gold rose by EGP 5, reaching EGP 4,660 per gram. Meanwhile, the global spot price of gold rose by approximately $17, hitting $3,360 per ounce.
Other local prices recorded the following: 24-karat gold: EGP 5,326 per gram,18-karat gold: EGP 3,994 per gram,14-karat gold: EGP 3,107 per gram,Gold sovereign (8 grams of 21-karat): EGP 37,280.
This comes after a decline in prices on Monday, where gold fell by EGP 5, starting at EGP 4,660 and closing at EGP 4,655 per gram, while the global ounce price dropped by $12—from $3,355 to $3,343.
Tuesday's gains come as the U.S. dollar paused its recent multi-week rally, with markets focused on the Consumer Price Index (CPI) report due later in the day.
Markets expect headline CPI to rise 2.7% year-on-year in June, while core CPI is forecast to increase 3.0%, according to consensus estimates. A lower-than-expected reading could strengthen expectations for an early interest rate cut by the Federal Reserve.
Trade policy remains a significant risk factor in precious metals markets. Recent statements from the U.S. administration regarding new tariffs have added uncertainty. However, President Trump has signaled a potential reopening of trade talks before the August 1 deadline for imposing tariffs, softening his previous stance on sanctions and duties. While this has somewhat eased fears of broader economic disruption, investors remain cautious.
Monetary policy shifts and global trade dynamics continue to strongly influence the price movements of gold and silver. Upcoming data for CPI and the Producer Price Index (PPI) is likely to play a key role in determining market direction, as investors look for clearer signals on the Federal Reserve's next move on interest rates.
Current market expectations point to a potential 50 basis point rate cut before the end of the year—a scenario that boosts gold's appeal as a yield-free hedge, particularly in a low-interest rate environment.

Egypt's enterprise agency injects EGP 2.2bn into Alexandria projects

Egypt's Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency (MSMEDA) has injected EGP 2.2bn into 51,000 projects in the governorate of Alexandria since July 2014, its chief executive said. Basel Rahmy stated that the financing, provided between July 2014 and May 2025, has created more than 110,000 jobs. Of the total funding, 102 million pounds were allocated to infrastructure, community development, and training projects, providing 718,000 workdays, he added. Rahmy's comments came during a meeting with Alexandria's Governor, Ahmed Khaled, to discuss enhancing cooperation and support for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), with a focus on industrial projects in areas like Borg El Arab and Merghem. The meeting aligns with directives from Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly to increase financial, technical, and non-financial services for citizens, particularly youth, women, and recent graduates, and to support productive clusters, Rahmy said. He emphasized the agency's commitment to expanding access to financing for both existing and new projects, especiallyin the productive and industrial sectors, due to their importance to the national economy. Rahmy also noted the agency's efforts to educate project owners about supportive laws, including Law 6 of 2025, which offers significant tax benefits. These include a simplified tax rate starting at 0.4% of annual turnover for projects up to half a million pounds, rising to 1.5% for turnover between 10 million and 20 million pounds, along with exemptions from various other taxes and duties. For his part, Governor Khaled said that Alexandria possesses promising investment opportunities and is one of Egypt's most important industrial governorates. He added that the governorate is working to expand existing industrial activities and is cooperating effectively with MSMEDA to provide necessary financing and services to project owners. Khaled affirmed the continued cooperation with the agency, particularly in formalising informal projects to enable them to benefit from the advantages offered by Law 152 of 2020 on SME development. During the meeting, the governor and MSMEDA's chief executive presented direct lending cheques to five project owners and issued formalisation licenses and classification certificates to five others.

Nissan Patrol Debuts in Egypt from EGP 8.99m at Exclusive North Coast Launch

Nissan Egypt has officially launched the all-new 2026 Nissan Patrol in the local market, unveiling the high-performance SUV during a private, high-profile event in Egypt's North Coast over the weekend. This marks the first official appearance of the all-new Patrol in Egypt, a long-anticipated entry that brings one of Nissan's most iconic global models to local roads through authorized distribution. The event — held at a luxury beachfront venue — drew leading automotive media, key industry stakeholders, and Nissan's dealer network. It also signaled a strategic expansion of Nissan's product portfolio in Egypt, targeting premium buyers and lifestyle-driven customers in search of a full-size, high-capability SUV with a strong international reputation. Flagship Entry to a New Segment Renowned across the Middle East and globally for its durability, off-road performance, and high-end comfort, the Patrol has earned its status as a flagship model within Nissan's global SUV lineup. Its official arrival in Egypt introduces a new category of full-size, luxury off-road vehicles that, until now, had limited or no direct presence in the market. The all-new 2026 Patrol will be available in eight different variants, spread across two powerful engine configurations — a naturally aspirated 3.8L V6 and a new 3.5L V6 Twin Turbo — both equipped with intelligent 4WD and advanced automatic transmissions. Official Prices and Model Breakdown: 3.8L V6 Engine: • XE – EGP 8,990,000 • SE – EGP 9,600,000 • SE Titanium – EGP 10,750,000 • SE Platinum City – EGP 11,750,000 3.5L V6 Twin Turbo: • LE1 – EGP 11,050,000 • LE2 – EGP 11,900,000 • LE Titanium – EGP 13,000,000 • LE Platinum City – EGP 14,000,000 Each variant offers a distinct combination of luxury features, performance enhancements, and design upgrades — allowing customers to choose based on lifestyle needs, driving preferences, and interior expectations. Elevated Design and Interior Sophistication The new Patrol blends aggressive design language with refined detailing. Its imposing front grille, sculpted LED lighting, and signature V-Motion styling reflect the vehicle's off-road DNA while appealing to modern luxury tastes. Inside, the cabin is finished with premium leather, dual infotainment screens, ambient lighting, and advanced safety features, transforming the Patrol into both a performance vehicle and a high-end travel experience. Across the top trims, features include adaptive cruise control, intelligent emergency braking, lane intervention systems, and terrain management modes — all designed to offer drivers enhanced control, whether in urban traffic or on rugged terrain. Unique in Its Class With its debut, the Patrol effectively creates its own niche in Egypt's automotive landscape. The full-size luxury SUV segment has remained largely untapped, with few — if any — direct competitors officially available through local distributors. Nissan's move not only fills this gap but positions the Patrol as a trailblazer in redefining premium mobility options for Egyptian consumers. 'We're proud to finally introduce the Patrol to the Egyptian market,' a Nissan Africa , Communication General Manager Nissan Africa ,Ramy Moharb said during the event. 'This vehicle represents a perfect combination of heritage and innovation. It's a global icon, and we believe it will resonate deeply with Egyptian customers looking for exceptional performance, presence, and prestige.' Strategic Timing Amid SUV Market Growth The Patrol's launch also comes at a time when Egypt's demand for SUVs continues to rise, driven by changing mobility patterns, an increase in intercity travel, and a growing appetite for higher ground clearance, road visibility, and comfort on longer drives. The Patrol — with its blend of capability and luxury — appears well-positioned to meet this evolving consumer demand. With local deliveries expected to begin in the coming weeks, Nissan Egypt is now gearing up for expanded showroom rollouts and nationwide test-drive campaigns, aimed at showcasing the Patrol's full potential to a new audience.

Egypt Expects about 4 Privatization Deals in Current Fiscal Year, Says Minister

Taarek Refaat In line with Egypt's ongoing economic reforms, Finance Minister Ahmed Kouchouk stated on Wednesday that the government expects to complete three to four privatization deals by the end of the current fiscal year, which began earlier this month. These privatizations are part of the country's broader strategy to increase the role of the private sector in the economy, thereby fostering greater economic growth and efficiency. 'The deals will cover various sectors, and we have shared a medium-term strategic plan with international institutions, including the IMF, that includes a clear and visible timeline,' Kouchouk explained. Egypt is on track to meet the targets set in its $8 billion loan agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), he added. Speaking at an event in London, Kouchouk emphasized that both Egypt and the IMF are working under expectations to complete the next review of the program in September or October. Kouchouk noted that the IMF remains focused on achieving specific targets, which he described as the most critical aspect of the ongoing program. The next review is a significant step towards unlocking a new tranche of the loan, expected to be dispensed once an agreement is reached and approved by the IMF Board of Directors. In July, the IMF announced that it would combine the fifth and sixth reviews of Egypt's loan program to provide the country with more time to meet key reform goals. A successful outcome of this review process would trigger the release of a new disbursement. Kouchouk underscored that Egypt has been making steady progress in implementing its economic reforms, as outlined in the IMF-backed program. He also reassured investors that the country is on track to achieve its fiscal and economic goals within the stipulated timeline. Minister Kouchouk also highlighted Egypt's commitment to building stronger relationships with both local and international investors. The Finance Minister stressed that Egypt's economy is showing signs of improvement, with the private sector now playing a leading role in economic activity. In addition, Kouchouk pointed to Egypt's impressive economic performance in the past year, marked by a significant primary surplus and higher growth rates in exports. 'Through events like this one at the London Stock Exchange, we are launching a new phase of trust, partnership, and certainty with investors,' he added. He further emphasized that Egypt is firmly committed to ongoing dialogue with the business community to explore new investment opportunities in the local market. read more CBE: Deposits in Local Currency Hit EGP 5.25 Trillion Morocco Plans to Spend $1 Billion to Mitigate Drought Effect Gov't Approves Final Version of State Ownership Policy Document Egypt's Economy Expected to Grow 5% by the end of 2022/23- Minister Qatar Agrees to Supply Germany with LNG for 15 Years Business Oil Prices Descend amid Anticipation of Additional US Strategic Petroleum Reserves Business Suez Canal Records $704 Million, Historically Highest Monthly Revenue Business Egypt's Stock Exchange Earns EGP 4.9 Billion on Tuesday Business Wheat delivery season commences on April 15 News Israeli-Linked Hadassah Clinic in Moscow Treats Wounded Iranian IRGC Fighters News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Arts & Culture South Korean Actress Kang Seo-ha Dies at 31 after Cancer Battle News "Tensions Escalate: Iran Probes Allegations of Indian Tech Collaboration with Israeli Intelligence" News Flights suspended at Port Sudan Airport after Drone Attacks Arts & Culture Hawass Foundation Launches 1st Course to Teach Ancient Egyptian Language Videos & Features Video: Trending Lifestyle TikToker Valeria Márquez Shot Dead during Live Stream
