One dead after vehicle vs pedestrian crash on Fourth of July in Pierce County
According to the Washington State Patrol, a driver was headed north on state Route 7 near 143rd Street South when they left the road and struck a pedestrian on the sidewalk.
Trooper John Dattilo posted on X that the pedestrian died after life-saving measures.
The driver has been arrested and will likely be charged with driving under the influence vehicular homicide, according to Dattilo's post.
According to the WSP X page, the incident happened around 6:43 p.m. All northbound lanes were blocked as of 7:15 p.m.

2 people hospitalized after second-alarm fire in Stanton
Orange County firefighters took two people to the hospital after a fire engulfed an apartment complex in Stanton. The Orange County Fire Authority said the apartment fire happened in the 7100 block of Kelton Way. The victims' conditions were not immediately released. Two people were injured after a fire in Stanton. OCFA Investigators have not yet determined the cause of the fire.
