Jack Black might not have realized when he recorded 'Steve's Lava Chicken' for A Minecraft Movie that the tune would go on to become such a big hit. He may have guessed that fans would love it within the film and that it might even cross over and rack up some streams and a few sales, but its performance on the charts all around the world has quickly become undeniably impressive.
The track has been gaining ground fairly consistently, even after the movie that made it famous dropped out of the top spot at the box office. This frame in America, the cut climbs on multiple lists, debuts on several others, and even manages to give Black a very special top 10 win on a competitive tally.
Among the seven Billboard charts where 'Steve's Lava Chicken' can currently be found, its performance is perhaps most impressive on the Hot Rock Songs list. That tally — which highlights the most consumed rock tracks in America using a methodology that blends sales, streams, and radio play — sees the Minecraft cut rise from No. 14 to No. 10. As it ascends, it becomes Black's first top 10 hit on the all-encompassing rock list.
'Steve's Lava Chicken' is actually Black's only tune under his own name to reach that roster. He has appeared on the Hot Rock Songs chart in the past as one-half of Tenacious D, although both of the group's smashes 'Video Games' and '…Baby One More Time' didn't even crack the top 20, peaking at Nos. 22 and 24, respectively.
The tune also manages to rise on one other list. It nearly breaks into the top 10 on the Hot Rock & Alternative Songs chart — and may very well do so in a week or two. This time around, in its third frame on that list, which also includes alternative tunes and is thus more competitive than the Top Rock Songs roster, it jumps from No. 19 to a new high of No. 12.
'Steve's Lava Chicken' has now reached the uppermost tier on a pair of Billboard lists. Last frame, it debuted at No. 6 on the Rock Digital Song Sales chart, ranking among the bestselling tunes in the style. It currently still lives inside that space, though it drops slightly from its No. 6 high point to No. 8.
Black's surprise hit debuts on a quartet of additional rankings. It opens highest on the Rock Streaming Songs list at No. 14 and also manages to crack the hugely competitive Hot 100, where it begins its time at No. 78.
'Steve's Lava Chicken' also now stands out as one of the biggest songs all around the world. It enters the Billboard Global 200 at No. 97 and the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. at No. 179.

Friday Music Guide: New Music From Alex Warren, Jessie Murph, BTS and More

Billboard's Friday Music Guide serves as a handy guide to this Friday's most essential releases — the key music that everyone will be talking about today, and that will be dominating playlists this weekend and beyond. This week, Alex Warren is far from 'Ordinary,' Jessie Murph delivers on her promise and BTS bring us back to live. Check out all of this week's picks below: More from Billboard GloRilla Turns Up Indianapolis With Fiery 2025 WNBA All-Star Game Halftime Show Performance Mariah Carey Teases 'Sugar Sweet' Summer Single Billie Eilish and James Cameron 3D Collaboration in the Works Alex Warren, With the success of 'Ordinary' eclipsing even the wildest expectations, Alex Warren now has the opportunity to establish an enduring foothold in popular music — and You'll Be Alright, Kid, a new album that features his No. 1 smash as well as previously released collaborations with Jelly Roll and ROSÉ, fleshes out the boom and gravel of his voice, with opener 'Eternity' in particular operating in the same emotional songwriter register as his breakthrough hit. Jessie Murph, 'Blue Strips' may have been the viral smash-turned-top 20 hit that finally delivered Jessie Murph to the mainstream, but the singer-songwriter has spent years honing her pop persona and hopscotching across genres with ease; Sex Hysteria contains plenty of the earworm hooks that made Murph's voice ubiquitous over the past few months, but more importantly, the new album places her fierce spirit front and center, and gives her the widescreen platform that she deserves. BTS, Although the long-awaited, full-throttle return of BTS is expected for 2026, Permission To Dance On Stage – Live — the group's first live album, which is taken from various performances during their 2021 tour — serves as a timely reminder of their global appeal, from their Hot 100 chart-toppers to their fan-favorite album tracks that still resonate a decade after their release. Zach Bryan feat. Gabriella Rose, 'Madeline' Two weeks after releasing a three-pack of songs, Zach Bryan has quickly returned with 'Madeline,' a heartfelt collaboration with Gabriella Rose that also precedes a newly announced album, With Heaven On Top; Bryan remains as prolific as ever, but none of the recent material feels rushed or tossed-off, and Rose's gentle twang nicely plays off his own delivery here. Alex G, Alex G signing to RCA Records was both a big deal and a natural next step for the indie stalwart: as the singer-songwriter's commercial prospects have steadily grown, new album Headlights contains the potential of a true crossover for his deeply felt, idiosyncratic tone, especially if songs like 'Oranges' and 'Afterlife' find the right rock-leaning audience. Myke Towers, A press release for Myke Towers' Island Boyz describes the project as 'an album that doesn't aim to fit into any mold, but rather to create its own language' — and across its 75-minute run time, Towers centers not just his Puerto Rican roots but the entirety of Caribbean music, reaching a new level as a mainstream artist through synthesis and experimentation. Cam, As a fresh generation of country artists has stepped into the spotlight, Cam has remained among the most consistent in her class, with new album All Things Light reflecting on personal struggles and offering hope to those in desperate need of it; it's a different shade for the singer-songwriter, but the newfound urgency powers this collection. Editor's Pick: Nine Inch Nails, 'As Alive As You Need Me to Be' Nine Inch Nails' studio output has slowed down over the past decade as Trent Reznor has focused on scoring film projects (and become a fixture at the Academy Awards as a result) — and while 'As Alive As You Need Me to Be' is attached to a movie, as the first taste of the upcoming Tron: Ares soundtrack, the single gloriously flexes the band's industrial-dance muscle that recalls the highs of With Teeth, and Reznor spends the track sounding commanding, re-energized back in front of the microphone. Mariah Carey ‘MC16' Album Details Coming Tomorrow

Mariah Carey is about to announce MC16, her long-awaited new album. Just a day after previewing a new song called 'Sugar Sweet,' the 'Type Dangerous' singer dropped another teaser — this time for her upcoming, as-yet-untitled LP that will be the follow-up to 2018's Caution. More from Billboard Mariah Carey Teases 'Sugar Sweet' Summer Single Fans Choose BTS' 'Permission to Dance On Stage' Live Album as This Week's Favorite New Music 'JACKBOYS 2' Debuts at No. 1 on Billboard 200 Albums Chart Carey released a video celebrating her discography on Sunday (July 20) via her social media accounts, counting up from MC1 — her self-titled debut — through MC15, aka Caution. At the very end of the 37-second clip, the text 'MC16' appears. Her post on X featuring the clip shows the title 'MC16 – Announcement Tomorrow,' indicating that album details will be revealed Monday (July 21). Though details are currently scarce — though fans will hopefully have more information to obsess over on Monday — last month the pop star did confirm that her new album is complete. 'What is next? The album coming out. I don't wanna tell too much about it because I just don't want to reveal the whole thing. It's finished,' she revealed in an Apple Music interview in June. Carey released 'Type Dangerous' in June and has another single, 'Sugar Sweet' — in which she sings, 'Imma keep it nice, Imma keep it neat, Imma keep it sugar, Imma keep it sweet' — to come. She uploaded a sneak peak of the light pop track playing in a cute clip of herself baking something in the kitchen on Saturday. 'Type Dangerous' was recently hyped with a remix EP release featuring collabs with the likes of Big Sean, DJ Snake and Method Man. See the MC16 album announcement teaser below. 90s Icon, 56, Reaches Exciting Milestone on Monday

90s Icon, 56, Reaches Exciting Milestone on Monday originally appeared on Parade. '90s R&B and pop star Mariah Carey hit an exciting milestone with one of her songs on Monday. Fans noticed that her hit song "Fantasy" surpassed 500 million streams on Spotify. Originally released in 1995, the chart-topping track continues to resonate with fans across generations, solidifying Carey's legacy as a pop and R&B star. Nearly three decades later, 'Fantasy' is still proving its timeless appeal in the streaming era. This is her fourth song to reach this milestone. Her other songs that have over 500 million streams include "All I Want For Christmas Is You" with more than two billion streams, "We Belong Together" with over 777 million streams and "Obsessed" with almost 600 million streams. "Fantasy" was the lead single and the first song on Carey's 1995 album Daydream. The track was written and produced by Carey and Dave Hall, and it samples Tom Tom Club's 1981 song "Genius of Love". Written by Carey, Steven Stanley, Adrian Belew, Chris Frantz, Tina Weymouth and Hall, the song is about an unrequited love from a woman who is in love with a man, and how every time she sees him, she starts fantasizing about a relationship with him. "Fantasy" was Carey's ninth No. 1 single on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart and topped the US charts for eight consecutive weeks. It was also the first single, by a female artist, to debut on the chart at number one, and only the second single to do so after "You Are Not Alone" by Michael Jackson. Nearly 30 years after its release, the R&B icon still proves that she and her songs will never get old. Fans can stream "Fantasy" and the rest of Carey's discography on Spotify and any streaming platform. 90s Icon, 56, Reaches Exciting Milestone on Monday first appeared on Parade on Jun 30, 2025 This story was originally reported by Parade on Jun 30, 2025, where it first appeared.
