Merge main, service roads by removing dividers during Metro work: DK Shivakumar
He instructed the officials concerned to remove the medians separa-ting the main carriageway from service roads. Shivakumar also oversaw the plans of merger and said that they aim to cover 40-50 km along the Metro construction areas to ease traffic con-gestion.
He recalled that the decision to remove the road dividers was made at the recent Greater Bengaluru Authority meeting. 'At the meeting with legislators from the city, we decided to remove the road dividers to ease traffic due to Metro construction,' he said.
The ongoing Metro line constructions that contribute to the traffic congestion include roads along the construction sites of the Pink Line that connects Kalena Agrahara (Gottigere) on Bannerghatta Road to Nagawara; Blue Line connecting Central Silk Board with the Kempegowda International Airport and Yellow Line connecting RV Road with Bommasandra.

But their disputes are now out in the open,' he remarked. Taking serious exception to AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi as 'barker', Mr. Ashok said such comments reflected the mindset of Congress leaders. 'The language used by Mr. Kharge is shameful and beneath the dignity of public life. Knowing that they will not come to power, they are resorting to such low-level remarks,' he alleged. From 'Maut ka Saudagar' to 'Zehreela Saap' to now this, personal abuse has become the only political currency of the Congress, he alleged. 'India is roaring under Mr. Modi, and that is the real problem of the Congress. They cannot digest the fact that a self-made leader is taking India to new heights, without their (Congress) dynasty,' he remarked.

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah Sunday ruled out differences between him and Deputy CM D K Shivakumar, a day after the Opposition BJP accused him of ignoring his deputy during the Sadhana Samavesha held in Mysuru. Speaking to reporters after offering 'Bagina' to Kabini reservoir, Siddaramaiah – flanked by Shivakumar – dismissed the allegations that he had insulted the deputy CM at the event. 'At a programme, those on stage are named. How did I insult him?' Siddaramaiah asked. The BJP had highlighted Siddaramaiah's outburst at a party worker ahead of his address at the event, after the worker suggested welcoming Shivakumar before he began his speech. At the event, the CM had said that only those on the stage are called out before beginning a speech and not those 'who sit at home'. Responding to a question on the same, Siddaramaiah said that Shivakumar was welcomed at the beginning of the event. 'He left midway to go to Delhi. That is why I did not name him,' he said. On the BJP's allegations that it was an insult to Shivakumar, Siddaramaiah said, 'How is it an insult? The BJP is under the illusion that they can get political mileage out of it.' Shivakumar, too, refused to read much into the incident at the Saturday event. Speaking to reporters, he said that he had left the event early to travel to Delhi to meet his lawyers. 'I had informed the CM before leaving the venue,' he said, adding that there was nothing political about his swift Delhi visit. On the BJP's allegation of insult, he said that the Opposition leaders had affection for him. 'Since I am a strong person, they have much affection for me,' he added.

CM Siddaramaiah announces Rs 32.25-cr Kabini dam restoration
Last Updated: Mysuru (Karnataka), Jul 20 (PTI) Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Sunday offered 'baagina' (a traditional offering) to the Kabini River and said Rs 32.25 crore had been approved for the dam's renovation, along with a slew of irrigation and development projects for the region. Speaking to reporters, Siddaramaiah said he offers oblations to the Kabini River every year, which irrigates over 1.13 lakh acres of agricultural land. He recalled that the dam across the river was built 51 years ago and said the government has now taken up its strengthening and modernisation. 'A sum of Rs 32.25 crore has been approved for the renovation work," he said, adding that there are also plans to develop a garden similar to the iconic Brindavan Gardens near the KRS dam. Proposals have also been submitted for the modernisation of the Taraka Reservoir canal and other irrigation systems around Kabini in H D Kote taluk. Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar, who was also present, said dam repair works across the state would be prioritised once the technical committee on dam safety submits its report. 'We constituted the committee after one of the gates at the Tungabhadra Reservoir was damaged. We will act based on its recommendations," Shivakumar said. 'This year, the Kabini is full for the first time in two years. It supported the region even during years of weak rainfall. Our MLAs have submitted proposals for the development of the area," he added. 'During the recent cabinet meeting at Male Mahadeshwara Hills, we approved projects worth Rs 35 crore for this region. We have also submitted a detailed report for an Rs 88-crore drip irrigation project," he further said. Asked about the possibility of organising a 'Kabini utsava', Shivakumar confirmed that a proposal exists and will be discussed with the district in-charge minister and other stakeholders. 'Plans are in place for 'Kabini utsava' and 'Cauvery aarti'. The government is committed to creating employment through tourism," he said. On the long-pending botanical garden proposal, Shivakumar said, 'Investors need to come forward. Our immediate priority is the efficient use of water and ensuring the safety of our reservoirs."
