DRDO conducts successful trials of indigenously developed Pralay missile

Time of India16 hours ago
Bhubaneswar: Defence Research and Development Organisation (
DRDO
) has achieved a significant milestone with the successful execution of two consecutive test flights of the indigenously developed Pralay missile.
The tests were conducted on Monday and Tuesday from Dr A P J Abdul Kalam Island, located off the Odisha coast, as part of 'user evaluation trials'. These trials aimed to validate the missile system's maximum and minimum range capabilities. "The missiles precisely followed the intended trajectory and reached the target point with pinpoint accuracy, meeting all the test objectives," the DRDO posted on X.
A govt statement said that all subsystems performed as expected, with verification achieved through test data captured by various tracking sensors deployed by the Integrated Test Range (ITR), including instruments on a ship positioned near the designated impact point.
Pralay is a solid propellant quasi-ballistic missile featuring state-of-the-art guidance and navigation systems to ensure high precision. It is capable of carrying multiple types of warheads against various targets. The system was developed by the Research Centre Imarat in Hyderabad, in collaboration with other DRDO labs, including the Defence Research & Development Laboratory, Advanced Systems Laboratory, Armament Research & Development Establishment, High Energy Materials Research Laboratory, Defence Metallurgical Research Laboratory, Terminal Ballistics Research Laboratory, Research & Development Establishment (Engineers), and ITR.
Industry partners such as Bharat Dynamics Limited, Bharat Electronics Limited, and numerous other industries and MSMEs also contributed to the development.
Flight trials were observed by senior DRDO scientists, representatives from the Indian Air Force and the Indian Army, as well as industry representatives.
Defence minister Rajnath Singh praised DRDO, the armed forces and the industry for the successful flight tests, stating that the missile, equipped with modern technologies, will provide a technological boost to the armed forces against threats.
Samir V Kamat, secretary of the department of defence (R&D) and chairman of DRDO, congratulated the teams involved, noting that the successful completion of the phase-1 test flights paves the way for the system's induction into the armed forces in the near future.

Axiscades secures ₹600 crore defence orders for indigenous platforms

Engineering solutions provider Axiscades on Wednesday said it has bagged new orders worth ₹600 crore in defence space. The orders involve development and supply of advanced sub-systems for "some of the most sophisticated indigenous platforms" being developed by leading Defence agencies like the DRDO and the Defence PSUs, Axiscades said in a statement. The cumulative value of these orders stood at around ₹600 crore. The orders will be executed through Axiscades' subsidiaries operating in the defence space, over the next 3 to 5 years, the company said. "Our partnerships on these critical programs reflect our core strength in high-performance radar, sonar, and signal processing electronics. We are contributing to indigenous platforms that will define the future of India's Defence preparedness," the company's Chief Technical Official (CTO) C Manikandan said. In June, Axiscades Aerospace and Technologies, one of the subsidiary companies of Axiscades, had signed an agreement with European missile systems major MBDA to set up a defence facility in Karnataka. "The facility will be equipped with test bench laboratories, infrastructure for missile launchers, specialized equipment, and trained technical personnel to support MBDA's advanced systems engineering requirements," the company had said. Bengaluru-based Axiscades is a leading end-to-end engineering and technology solutions provider, catering to sectors like energy, heavy engineering, aerospace, defence, automotive among others. India test fires tactical missile Pralay

Balasore: India has successfully test fired the newly developed tactical missile Pralay, capable of carrying conventional warheads. The missile was test fired from the APJ Abdul Kalam Island off the coast of Odisha on Monday and Tuesday, the Defence ministry said. Pralay is a short-range surface-to-surface missile with a payload capacity of 500 -1,000 kg. The missile, capable of carrying conventional warheads, has a range of 150 to 500 km. It has been developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). The missile, equipped with modern technologies, will give further technological boost to the armed forces against threats, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said lauding the DRDO, the armed forces and the concerned industry partners involved in the project for the successful flight-tests.
