9th Wonder's first lady, Rapsody, will be coming to South Africa, Soweto, on July 18 for 'UPRISING: A Night Walk Through Memory, Music, and Resistance'.
The rapper will be alongside Nomsa Mazwai, with whom she built a long-term friendship and sisterhood. According to the joint post by Mazwai and Rapsody, the night tour will honour the legacy of Nelson Mandela as well as the June 16 Soweto Uprising.
The night will include an intimate community dinner and a conversation between Seth Mazibuko, a former student leader and historian who was part of the 1976 march and the youngest student to be imprisoned.
Also part of the conversation will be the Grammy-award-winning rapper, with Mazwai moderating the event.
'I remember how much Soweto inspired my 'The Idea of Beautiful' album. You gave me so much inspiration, fueled verses and sonics well beyond that album.
'I'm looking forward to walking the streets of Soweto on July 18 with you and drinking from the fountain of wisdom that is Bra Seth!,' said Rapsody.

The rapper's relationship with South Africa goes way back, in her own words, the country had a lot of influence on her critically acclaimed 2012 album 'The Idea of Beautiful', which featured Mazwai, Childish Gambino and Ab-Soul, to mention a few.
Talking to 'Daily Sun' about her relationship with Rapsody, Mazwai revealed the depth of their sisterhood.
'Rapsody and 9th Wonder sampled three of my songs from my debut SAMAs-winning album, 'Nomisupasta'. We've been friends and sisters ever since,' she said.
Additionally, she emphasised Rapsody's involvement with South African history and rich heritage.
'She's been invested in the community of Soweto since her debut album 15 years ago. Now that she has a Grammy, we want to see her and congratulate her,' Mazwai told 'Daily Sun'.
The 'Forget Me Not' hitmaker was also involved in another South African inspired album, Kendrick Lamar's 'To Pimp a Butterfly', which was released in 2015. She appeared on a song titled 'Complexion (A Zulu Love).
At the time, Kendrick Lamar's visit to Nelson Mandela's prison cell on Robben Island had a huge impact on his album, which inspired themes of racial injustice, self-reflection and cultural history.
Given Rapsody's history with South Africa, her involvement in the album, particularly the track, was a no-brainer, as she is known for her introspective and personal lyrics, as well as her soulful, jazzy delivery.
Her own music often incorporates elements of hip-hop, R&B and spoken word, showcasing her versatility and lyrical skill.
Through her work, Rapsody has established herself as a respected lyricist in the American hip-hop scene and on a global scale.

From talent search to stand-up success: Sifiso Nene preps for his one-man show

Multi-award-winning comedian Sifiso Nene as he prepares for his new one-man show, "Because Of Success." Multi-award-winning comedian Sifiso Nene as he prepares for his new one-man show, "Because Of Success." Multi-award-winning comedian Sifiso Nene is on the cusp of another milestone in his blossoming career as he prepares to take the stage for his much-anticipated one-man show, Because Of Success, at the Windmill Casino's Conference Centre on August 1, 2025. Known for his ability to weave captivating narratives from ordinary stories, Nene has firmly established himself as a fresh voice in South African comedy. Originally from Durban, his journey in the entertainment industry began in earnest after he moved to Johannesburg in 2006, aiming to become a scriptwriter for the well-known comedy show, the Pure Monate Show. However, his talent for storytelling was quickly recognised, and he transitioned into stand-up comedy, where he flourished. Nene recalls a turning point in his career when he participated in the reality competition show So You Think You're Funny! hosted by David Kau. 'That show changed my life and introduced me to the whole country. Now the Laugh Africa show has rebranded me and introduced me to new audiences. The journey has opened up a lot of doors, such as performing at different significant events, festivals and appearances on TV. All these things added value to my brand, which is why I can do my tour today,' he shared with Saturday Star. The comedian has enjoyed considerable success since then, performing at various significant events and earning a slew of accolades, including the prestigious Audience Choice Award at the second annual South African Comics Choice Awards. In 2022, Nene's engaging narrative style garnered him viral fame with his show Baby Mama Drama 2, tackling the often sensitive topic of co-parenting with comedic grace, he explained, 'I never expected to write a second installment since I believed I had gone through all the possible baby mama drama in my first show six years ago. However, the pandemic added more elements to my story, and I decided to vent in the best way I know how: on stage.' Nene explains that his latest show draws inspiration from audience interactions with his previous comedy special, Laugh Africa, aired on Showmax. 'The title was a catchy line that they remembered from the content that I delivered,' he noted. With this performance, he aims not only to entertain but also to offer audiences a fresh perspective on life through his unique lens of humour. A testament to his growing influence, his recently garnered the Winners' Choice Award at the April 2025 Comics Choice Comedy Awards, a recognition bestowed by previous award winners. 'It puts my name on the map and in greater spaces, so I honestly appreciate it,' he expressed, reflecting on his journey thus far. 'I love what I do. I strive to get better each time. That is what fuels me. To those who want to break into the industry must come. The pie is big enough for all of us.' Saturday Star

In 2018, a movie was released based on this superhero. In one of the episodes of her podcast, 'Just Trish', the mother of three shared the names she did not choose for her newborn baby. 'I will say my number one that we were so close to naming the baby is not a movie poster, but I loved it so much. It's Moses' poem Water Snake. I love Water Snake. It's the Year of the Snake, Moses is a snake. We love water,' she said. She also shared that Water, Aladdin and Moses Jr were some of the names she considered. The name Aquaman, however, stood out for Paytas because she used to be a superfan of the movie and would often wear Aquaman t-shirts. 'I've been wearing Aquaman T-shirts for years, since 2017 when the first Justice League came out. I have gone to so many Comic Cons for Aquaman. And I really fell in love when we rewatched Aquaman,' she added. Paytas' baby name sent the internet into a frenzy because many people were predicting that she would choose a name that is unusual, but also many never anticipated that she would choose Aquaman. @vanadag0at commented: 'Mind you, he has to be an adult one day.' 'Ily (I love you) babe but Aquaman?' @shrjh17 said. While @hy3n added: 'Nara Smith has sum competition.' Other social media users came up with the theory that the names she chooses to announce names that are not real, which Paytas later debunked the theory and shared a video saying that Aquaman is in fact her baby's real and legal name. 'Hi everyone, it's me and baby Aquaman who loves to sleep. This little boy loves to sleep… Let's talk about the name, baby Aquama,n because the internet is very, very divisive on it. 'Now, obviously, I really don't care; I shared the name with the world. It is his legal name, it is on his birth certificate,' she revealed.
